  • This is a 2-hour bullet chess tournament, Lichess Titled Arena 4, I provided commentary on while specifically observing World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen compete. The Lichess Titled Arena 4 is held for titled chess players only, namely Grandmasters, International Masters, FIDE Masters, National Masters etc... Magnus Carlsen (DrDrunkenstein) was the top seed with a beastly 3006 rating. The top 10 players who entered this tournament had an average bullet rating above 2800!! This was the 4th "Titled Arena" held by lichess.org. Its $3,200 prize pool goes to the top 6 players, with 1st - $2,250, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $200, 4th - $125, 5th - $75, and 6th - $50. This tournament was played on April 12th, 2018.
    I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. Only Jerry commentating Carlsen can persuade me to watch an entire two-hour vid.

      Carlsen was streaming. I've noticed before that his playing strength suffers when he does that, because he has trouble handling talking and playing at the same time.
      Last titled arena he had an 86% winrate compared to this times 75%.

    During the 1972 WCC cycle, Bobby Fischer won 20 straight FIDE-rated classical games against titled opponents, a feat that has never been matched since. But here, Carlsen finished with 20 straight bullet chess wins against titled opponents. Very impressive.

    Magnus Carlsen went on a tear at the end! 19 wins in a row and if you consider the very last game that they started with 1:07 left on the clock, but the opponent took a few seconds to decide to resign and it went over the time limit as a result, that would be 20 wins in a row. Impressive!

    It's almost cheating to start a new account.
    CleverTacticButFail has some 'easy' wins in the beginning compared to his real rating. See around 2:09, Tang started at 1500? rating. He even beserked a couple of the first games to get more points. I'd say it is an exploit and those few points could very well have determined the outcome (which equals winning $2500 or $500!). Lichess should have the requirement of at least ~10-20 ranked matches in order to play this arena.

    • @Athinira
      @Athinira 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not really. It does place you really fast. However, you shouldn't be able to berserk until your rating is determined, to avoid easy extra points against weak opponents.

    • @1998marijn1998
      @1998marijn1998 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I just found out that only the first game is based on rating, the rest is based on tournament place. So then it doesn't really matter, except that beserking the first game shouldn't be allowed.

      After pawn to D4, black played pawn to C5, then white played c4 and black took D4, white Queen recaptured and then knight to c6

      The position didn't register correctly on the board, so a few moves were skipped out and Black's c pawn was still there (until Jerry refreshed it by looking at previous moves). But yeah confusing at first lol.

      1.d4 cxd4 ...
      Okay, so apparently it was sicilian. 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 etc. just omitted the first two moves, some bug. fixed itself after a while.
