Ryan is the man! I Had the chance to spend some time with him at various MTB contests, Crankworx, Colorado freeride fest and others... Most humble guy. Seeing him sewing his shorts the evening before the finals day was unbeliavable to me. Later he let me stay in his room in Whistler when I was an alternate for Joyride. LEGEND! Thanks Ryan
I'll always remember Ryan's part in Drop the Hammer. That part made me view him in a completely different light. Your awesome Ryan thanks for 26 years of inspiration. It's riders like you that keep me riding 20's at 40. 🤙
This is one of the best interviews I've seen! Even better with rooftop being in on it to. Nyquist is a dam LEGEND in BMX history,,,and still a great rider!
Ryan has always been a master of the things he does. It is so great to see guys not slow down over time. Like I have. He has learned new things and adapted to the new crazy tricks out there now. When I think about pro level dirt jumping, I think Nyquist.
It's funny when they talk about how everybody hated Ryan in the beginning. I definitely remember that time. Me and my friends would always push the fast forward button when Ryan was riding because we knew he'd do only barspins anyways lol... took a few years to really appreciate him. Great guy! And Mike is a great co-host btw.
DUDE YOU WERE TECHNICALLY TEAMMATES WITH BART SIMPSON VIA ..BUTTERFINGER Also I remember when you were on bontrager you had this crazy duck tape seat and I totally jocked your seat as I was leaning pull up double bars off ledges lol. Good times, great oldies.
That was grand the bmx uncle that’s still doing triple trucks and such. Humble guy and interesting story. Mike needs more appearances he has good insight and questions. Awesome statement by T.J. Lavin
I saw Nyquist at a dirt contest in Virginia Beach back in the early aughts. Not sure if it was the one he mentioned but I’m cracking up imaging Lavin up on the deck trying to get in his head haha
my favorite video when i started riding BMX was expendable youth on vhs. Nyquist had the ending part with a backflip double barspin over a box jump. Same video is how i found out about Cameron Birdwell.
Wish they would have said what they heard was the reason Sandoval wasn’t included as alternate. Also wish the timing would have been better for Ryan. He deserves to be an Olympian.
When Mike mentioned mountain bikers as dorky. It reminded me of this one dude that rode for GT and did other sports as well. Anyone remember his name?he was an exception to the statement.
Great podcast!! But man BMXer’s we’re all the same we talk at eachother, and are not the best listeners. You guys gotta let the guest answer a question before you fire off 5 more!! Hahaha. I helped Nyquist fix a flat on his bontrager at the pit skate park in Rockford Illinois once so he could keep competing. He owes me!!! Kidding great to hear from him. Still a fan. I had the pleasure of watching him rip my home park four seasons about 10 years ago. Blew me away!! So good!!
If I seen nyquist do a suicide double bar out of an up rail or that left hip over the rails that spriet did that 1 footer table on id watch it 100 times
I met him once before at krush skatepark in Illinois. It was a park that dodt allow peds . He was mine blown they made him take them off . The park was skater owned so the owner didn't care who it was 😂
@@joosepnilk6978 I was into Ride in the late '90s. I only remember McGoo answering the letters. Being an adolescent at the time myself, I was shocked how rudely he'd respond. I eventually caught on that it was meant to be humorous. I was only used to BMX Plus at that point.
Edit: It took at least an hour, but Mike finally chilled out and he got a lot better. 🙏 . Loved Esca when he rode but... Talking over Ryan, interrupting, not accepting the answer given, using nonsensical reasoning (to justify shit)? Nah, I'm good.
my position again is BMX heads keeps trying to keep an image we are hardcore" we are hardcore and BMX is one specific type of person and rider such as roof top hated on how Ryan looked. if BMX owned it and let it go mainstream like skateboard companies BMX riders would make 6 figures and receive royalties from sales. ignorance handicapped bmx. Greg Litecky of Arizona killed it but could not break thru because BMX only focused on certain people like Arizona's Sean sexton which he was a beast at riding but Gteg Litecky was doing tricks before anyone and killing it only the old heads of BMX held everyone down.
Love this podcast with Nyquist. The Team USA performance at the Olympics was a disaster. Disastrous picks for the men's athletes, disaster at having no alternate, disaster of having a male as the women's alternate taking a spot from a well deserving female. Team USA really blew it.
Mike is so robotic. No natural conversation. Just question after question after”what happened to ME was” just weird. Felt like Ryan was getting tired of the 100 questions

Mike a killer co host dude this is sick
I can’t believe The Unit has been tucked away in storage all this time! Another great watch thank you 👊🏻
Thank youuuuu.
More rooftop as co host!! He was really good.
Great episode
This episode just gets better as you listen to more. Rooftop is great at just opening it up and it’s just rad. Props to these guys
Have not seen a second yet but I know it’s gonna be 3 awesome hours! Thank you guys for doing this!
Thank youuu!
@@OurBMX update: it was 🙂

I love this podcast so much! 3 hours seems like a long podcast, but this one was just fun to listen to :) .
I remember in 2003 I had a Haro Nyquist X4 Backtrail. I loved that bike.

Such a rad interview and Mike was such a great co host for this!
I remember the "can't open jars, but I can still spin the bars ",that's an old one.
Good as always!! Need that clip of Nyquist sliding though that sounds like gold😂
Man great job rooftop loved what you brought to the podcast
So stoked on Rooftop being included man!
Still blows my mind how good of shape Rooftop appears to be in after all these years.

90s mt bikers = dorks. no questions, rooftop knows the facts.
We beefed hard with the mountain bikers back in the day. Biggest nerds ever.
Rooftop is hired
Rooftop out here like he's been hosting a podcast for years! Good job bro!!
Great episode. Rooftop is an excellent cohost
These just keep getting better, and the fact that there's shit talk through out, with a big smile just makes it cooler.
Man I love how much rooftop loves this shit
Excellent Podcast! This is amazing!!!
Thanks!
Thank youuuu!

Amazing episode!
The man the myth the legend!
I love this so much.
Listening to this on apple music and i thought Ryan Reynolds was Mike Escamilla they sound almost identical lol
Great interview 👏
Great Episode, you should try to get Dennis Macoy some day or Matt Hoffman.
Love this and Roof top is absolutely brilliant

Amazing👏🏼
More rooftop! This was a great podcast!
LOLOLOL Little Homies. Eisenbergs Skatepark in Plano, TX had a Little Homies vending machine when I was going there in the late 90s.
Good chemistry with rooftop. Fudger in his element. Dennis was missed. Nyquist is up there.
I remember pics of nyquist rocking Bontrager stickers all over his front spokes
25:00 The connect with the camera!
"This, beat them." LMFAO

Holy fuck, thank you for this podcast!

In my time high seat was allways called a Nyquist seat 😅🇱🇻
Dude co-host Rooftop rules - he’s a great catalyst for this interview
Aaron are u ok ? If so now I can laugh at what Gabe said before the start of DYU🤣🤟
Brilliant, need more rooftop
need that Nyquist video part, legacy !!! Rooftop was right the people want it
i still want Nyquist 4pcs bars :)
So glad he dropped WINKLEMAN
Shawn Palmer rode mtbs in the 90's. There were some cool ppl doing it.
What's up with Dennis?!
I never noticed how much he resembles "Rooftop"!
I wonder if they're related.......🤔
Trey goon riding was hilarious
Remember...it was the 90s. They were dorks. Fucking LMAO. Love rooftop
I met him once before at krush skatepark in Illinois. It was a park that dodt allow peds . He was mine blown they made him take them off . The park was skater owned so the owner didn't care who it was 😂
Is it me, or is Fudger getting funnier with each podcast?
Dude has always been a lowkey stand-up guy (see the letters section of Ride). Besides being a stand up guy.
It's you.

to bad daves not here. a video of ryan riding catty and posh. plus him riding concrete oh yeah
What’s the story about DS? I’m sure the truth is not as bad as any speculation
I had no idea Rooftop was Paul Rudd
More rooftop!
I didnt know prince harry rode bmx??? Lol
He kept that for his next book 🤫
@@TeamPlanlos lol im suprised how quick he picked up that american accent so fast
Rooftop!

my first bike was a 2004 haro backtrail x0 and my second bike bought with my own money was a 2008 haro backtrail x2 low

Rooftop talks too much as a host the next ones gonna be 5-6 hours long
There’s nothing bad about a 4-5hr podcast if you’ve got a guest this seasoned

A male took the female alternate? I’m curious about what Rooftop was alluding to with Sandoval not being the alternate.
I always hoped that Bestwick would do a retirement edit and drop all the rumor tricks on the way out...

Great interview @ryannyquist
