Wow Certainly one of the best BMX interviews I’ve ever heard. If you dont respect Jamie as a PERSON after this interview you have missed something. Class act. Well done.
That was a cool podcast. I don't think many of the younger kids realise where Jamie Bestwick came from, and how hard he had to work to get to where he has and stand up there and win against Mirra and other vert legends. The leap from the UK competition scene to the US scene back when he did it was absolutely massive. People say he is very serious, but i remember him from back in his UK days and he was a funny dude, always laughing and joking. He got very serious when he hit the US....he had to! You should get Paul Roberts on here for some of us old gits in the UK. Not known so much as a rider, but was a mainstay character in the 90's UK scene. I bet he would be a great guest with some funny stories to tell. I believe he still lives in the US now and is in the music scene. He was like UK's version of Steve Crandall, a great hype man and a good dude who loved promoting BMX. He deserves more credit in the history of BMX. BMX history is always good and full of good stories....and some tragic and sad ones too. Real life!
One of the best interviews so far! His love for bmx is amazing. I watched him ride in person at the Minneapolis xgames and his ability to flow and blast was so obviously ahead of everyone else, it was awesome. Nobody has ever ridden a bike like him, no question in my mind.
I'm 53, I raced bmx when it was relatively new, got into freestyle still have a bmx bike I ride even though severe knee problems. I've never been good at it all but Always very fascinated by freestyle bmx and have been a fan through all the years. So great to get insider retrospective from GOAT vert rider Jaime. Thank you Jaime and Our BMX for this great interview! Loved the stories, insight, and inspiration
Cannot find the words for how awesome this podcast was! Watching Jamie ride a Vert ramp was always inspiring and I was always left with this incredible desire to ride my bike after, and this was no exception.
Jamie, thank you! A true legend! He is so sincere and down to earth. What an inspiration to us all. Never mind medals, this lads got a heart of gold! He shared a lot of solid knowledge and wisdom not only in the realm of BMX but life! Thanks for sharing! Ryan and Demarcus, thanks for kicking ass and putting out incredible content! After all if it wasn't for the two of you we wouldn't have these opportunities to hear from these fantastic individuals! Now let's ride and spread the faith! Up Tha BMX!!!
Wow, around the 55:47 mark really shows his heart. Thank you and God bless you. You are a giant that you mention several times. Who is now on your shoulders?
Such a great perspective! I love hearing from pros. This answers my question I was asking myself while watching a Scotty Cranmer video showing some of his momentos and trophy's just in a sea train. And how his Dew Tour trophy was amongst the treasure trove and he remarks "This used to be so important to me." I kind of understood, but Jamie gives a bit more context to that. Even though they're different people, the meanings behind their actions are likely pretty similar. And it makes sense - you can't linger too long on any one moment without thinking about what's next. Also, these guys are very humble, even with all they've accomplished. This is a good example of humility. Very cool to see.
@@noodle3384 that's the issue with Jamie, it never looked like he had any fun. I remember back in the day at contests when everybody was on one deck of the vert ramp chatting and joking around, Jamie was on the other side all alone.
Jamie's impact was monumental to a group that was just not as public facing. Those riders he impacted were able to make the global impact at the Olympics because of the 'we' he was a part of. Great podcast, thank you Fudger and DeMarcus!!
This has been the best 3 hours of bmx talk I've ever heard and I just want more. It was funny hearing office people at my work talking about Logan Martin winning gold and how stoked they were on the womens BMX, Charlottes run got me out of my seat.
What a legend Jamie is. I remember years ago now at Chilwell in Nottingham he rocked up and backflipped the box and I couldn't believe what I saw. They were the days when hardly anybody could or would backflip.
It would be nice for Hoffman to do an interview like this. But,he suffers from PCS from so many concusions over the years.Doesnt make much sense when he talks. Its a fucking shame too because I met him in Rockville,MD right after he got on Haro.Hes a shadow of himself then.
Amazing interview. The part that really struck me was about standing on the shoulders of giants and letting them down. More like standing on the shoulders of giants with the weight of the world on your own shoulders.
I happened to be at Wakefield when Jamie learnt backflips on a tabletop jump with a mattress on the landing ramp. As I remember it only took a few goes and he commented that it was easier than he thought it was gonna be. Happy days.
I met Jamie at an x trials in Texas. Mirra was my favorite rider and was salty about his loss in the xgames the first time to Jamie. He asked if I wanted an autograph and I said not really. He spent time talking to me and and sent me to Woodward for a week. I will never forget him and how great of a guy he really is. I don’t know if he will see this but thank you for being you.
My crew of Bmxer’s I rode with back in the day all did the same all turn in boy racers I was the only one that kept riding BMX I’m 43 now still Riding BMX 👍🚲💨
Good stuff. Jamie is a good guy. He was giving my kid tail whip tips when we were at Woodward. I’m standing there star struck and my kid is acting like it’s no big deal lol.
Great podcast with one of the greats. Definitely could tell how bummed he was about the shit that happened on top of the vert ramps at Woodward. On ya bestwick
Amazing interview, Thank you *Our BMX* , I remember watching Jimmy Bestwich ride the Half Pipe & took a picture with him, but still I don't know from where is originally? (Greetings from Dubai, UAE 🇦🇪).
Fantastic podcast with a amazing rider and an awesome guy. I've only met him once, but to me he was embodiment of a BMX professional. Enthusiastic, positive, goal directed, friendly and brave. Definitely the greatest vert rider of all time. The stuff about the UCI and the Olympics bothers me though. No one knows more about this sport than Jamie, and he seems like a fantastic advocate for the riders to the UCI. I'm glad the UCI and Olympics seems to be pumping more money into a sport that has never had much. That's a very good thing. But do we really want BMX to become like gymnastics or figure skating, with sterile presentation, humorless officials, endless rules, and people losing or winning based on stupid technicalities? It was awesome to see BMX in the Olympics, but I thought the presentation and the way the contest was run was really sterile and missing some of the energy that makes this stuff so fun. Of course that's not Jamie's fault, he wasn't running the comp, but I hope the UCI doesn't suck all the life out of BMX.
I think we are going to see the impacts of the olympics coming in 2022. Local governments will start to see skateparks/Dirt Jumps as viable investments. Our local council has started to heavily invest in building and upgrading skateparks in the area since the Olympics. Watching the council meetings and cringing when they are fussing and gleefully hoping that the next champion could come from our area. (I was cringing because riders such as Steve McCann and Luke Parslow grew up riding our local trails and no one from council ever gave a fuck before. Secondly, and I mean no disrespect to the other riders , but Charlotte winning was the best thing for womens BMX. Shes the perfect poster child, being such a badass on the bike, How she handled herself, her attitude and charisma, even the way she smiled as she left the course. For the first time on the world stage young girls are going to realise that this is a sport for them too and they can be included. I bet more girls had a BMX bike under the Christmas tree this year than all other years combined. X games had their chance on womens BMX and they blew it
Fuzzy has got to be a good guest, him and Bestwick have been on my wall since the 90's (both by Losey) Considerably speaking Road Fools 13 and the new era of Mongoose and what happened with his game with Midway.
Seems like a solid dude. I’ve rooted for him since I first remember seeing him competing with Mirra. Thought maybe he was a tad salty when his scores didn’t reflect his riding and maybe he was but he sounds very humble
Wonderful podcast. The best one to date. Just a shot in the dark here but at some point can there be a flatland rider on the show like Pete Brandt or someone on that level?
Jamie might be the best rider ever but because it’s vert he doesn’t get the recognition. Nobody can do such massive alley oop airs with tricks and style like him. He has the tricks, the style, the medals, but it’s vert so he gets overlooked
30 minutes in and.... very interesting podcast. For my taste Jamie has always taken things a bit too seriously and was trying to hard to beat Dave or whoever. It never looked like he was having any fun and therefore I never really enjoyed watching him ride. Yes he eventually became the nr. 1 vert rider but he never had that special something that Mat or Dave had. Just my opinion. Nevertheless I have a lot of respect for his achievements and riding.
