    So much nostalgia. Mid school was my favorite time for BMX. It wasn't like today where it's like playing a video game and everyone has freecoasters.

    So many legends in bmx x games back in the day. I would watch the BMX and skateboarding X Games reruns over and over again back in the day when I was in middle school and high school.

    Miron's 540 was so huge!

    The transition between before and now: -
    Now they ride bigger tires, bigger handle bars, lower seat, smaller sprocket, plastic pegs & most ride Breakless.

    • @ThomasD3
      @ThomasD3  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't realize that.

      Also, often no brakes, often only one set of pegs or none at all (many riders back then rode 4 pegs, and sometimes they were extra long/steel) and it's hard to tell obviously in a video but the bikes were significantly heavier. I had a Mirra Pro for a while back in the day, front and back brakes, and the sucker was 40lbs. Today's pros the standard is between 22lbs and 26lbs. The geometry has been more heavily refined and rider specific, and also the material itself has been improved significantly. You can have equal or even greater strength despite the lighter weight of the frame.

      @@kyleheaser1089 why no brakes now?

    • @nachyomoney3598
      @nachyomoney3598 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gxs8p578 its because most riders have learned to do a lot of the tire tap tricks balanced without brakes. Brakes are just extra weight and then you have to have a gyro and brakes and gyros are just more things that get broke. Simple is better. When I used to ride BMX dirt we always took our brakes off. You dont need brakes when youbare just trying to go fast and fly through doubles.

    Do you have the rest of the broadcast!?
    I have the ABC broadcast on a tape somewhere here too, but at some point in the past, my younger brothers taped over a portion of it. I've been dying to find a copy of X Games VIII anywhere, but I've had zero luck, except for certain clips on TH-cam here and there.

      What do you mean? Are bmx bikes designed differently now?

    • @kyleheaser1089

      @@hanselmanryanjames absolutely. Then angles of the seat tube, of the head tube, of bottom bracket sizes, etc. Small modifications in angles/sizes can make a big difference in how the bike handles/feels. Different riders will perform better with different geometries.

    • @afranzen
      @afranzen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyleheaser1089 geometry is a sales gimmick. It is all about looking cool now, with big handlebars making it almost impossible to barspin now. The more material, the more the price goes up.
