Holy shit this game is out?! Jesus, the marketing was terrible! I was a huge fan of the first game on Vita and I didn't even know this was a thing until last month! What the hell are the marketers doing?
colin rice I refer you back to my initial "even so". This game's gotten next to nothing in the way of marketing when it needs all the help it can get, being the artsy sequel to an off-genre Vita game that very few people played. I know they made a PS4 port years later but that too got shafted when it came to marketing so still, almost no one played it. Which is a shame, since it's a beautiful game with very unique me mechanics and an incredibly charming visual and narrative flair.
God i hope this game is succesful. I hate how little marketing it had, since there are very few games as original as this one while not being an indie project.
It wasn't really an anime adaptation. More like supplementary material using assets they already have... For what it's worth, the game is a success in it's own right. But put it alongside some of the behemoths of gaming, you'd barely notice it.
I agree with Jim on the problems he had with the original game, but it was just so damn charming I still fell in love with it. If GR2 is that but prettier, twice as long, and with a better over world, I feel another love affair coming on.
Really wasn't very interested in this game until I watched this gameplay. The art design of that city is amazing. I'd love to float around that city like that. What dope art style, I might pick this up.
I know why there are exclusive games, but I wish all games worth a darn came to PC. This game looks like it might be fun, but after how little I used my PS3, I can't see myself getting a PS4 for any exclusive games coming to it. =/
*_Last of Us Remastered_* and *_Uncharted 4_* are probably what King James was thinking of. I like a photo mode... *IF* It's "just there". As in, It's a bonus; I don't ever have to use it. That's cool. If it's going to be there though, I rather like when you can control the camera (not the in game one- I mean like "post-photo"), change the lighting, add filters, remove NPCs, enemies, protagonists etc etc. Last of Us did it nicely
Indeimaus Holy cow.I have just realised that they look VERY similar, even the way the troops drop off look like FFXV.Not that I mind it,I personally liked the magitek troops design.(aesthetically)
Actually a shame that Sony is trying so hard to kick out both this and the vita. Kat deserves more love. And as usual, great review from King Sterling.
I think this game qualifies as a hidden gem because it's brilliant but was barely marketed at all. I found it by chance because of a TH-cam advert popping up on a vid I was watching. I decided to watch the whole advert and what do you know, it looked bloody great.
Why does everyone in these reviews/previews ONLY use the gravity kick and normal kicks? Roll+kick = more damage and range than a normal kick Gravity slide = fun to move around and auto-attacks that are perfect for sweeping whole squads of ground targets And like Jim said, the Throwing button, which he talks about but doesn't use. Sure the combat is not DEEP but it's also not as boring as pressing square over and over and over again like most videos are showing. And that's without getting into her other Moon/Venus(?) modes with new moves. Sorry I just had to get that rant out after watching 2 straight minutes of nothing but gravity kicks.
The biggest problem is that while this is true for ground/human enemies, it’s just not plausible vs bigger nevi. Nevi make up a vast majority of game enemies and you have to spam stasis/kick as much as possible. If the game had no Nevi the combat would be more balanced tbh.
Being a fan of the first one, I fucking loved the demo I just played! It looks so much fucking better and aaahhhhhh! (yeah it's not a masterpiece but I really like the look of GR2)
It's also designed by Keiichiro Toyama, who did the original Silent Hill and Forbidden Siren. Sounds like a good starting point for marketing the game. Fuck Sony, GR is gonna tank again.
I like the photography modes in games for the sake of getting a good look at the outfits. It allows for nice references for drawing or cosplay. But, I also agree, it sucks when they're bad, and more when they're bad AND forced.
Nah you were right to be confused there Jim, the stasis field was relatively inferior in the first game, sonds to me likr they improved on balancing The moveset a bit
great review Jim. I also thought the pr note that Sony sent you was hilarious due to them sticking with the whole gravity theme. Sucks that you would have to struggle extra hard just to get through it though.
The first one was a huge reason I bought a Vita. And it was one of the few games that I actually enjoyed on the console. That said Sony's mishandling of the Vita also meant I'm not gonna be buying anymore of their consoles anytime soon. So I won't be playing this, and I can live with that.
The side mission Jim shows in this video is called "Diabolically Yours". Do NOT play this mission on "easy" difficulty as it is 100% glitched, and the ship takeover bar will not go down properly as you defeat enemies. After dozens of attempts at this broken POS mission, I turned the difficulty up to "normal" and beat it on the first try.
Man, I remember playing the first one on the Vita, got really far, but never beat it. Between the remastered first one, this one, Bloodborne, and the Last Guardian, I may have to buy a PS4.
In Wind Waker HD, you can use turn the camera on yourself to take a selfie with whatever you're looking at. You couldn't do that in the original, so maybe that's the one you were thinking of.
Seems fun can't wait to get it :D That does stink about the missions however. I hope she learned new powers and not just the new styles (which are cool)
I'm content with this review. I was expecting GR2 to be like GR1: Really charming with a great soundtrack and mediocre core mechanics. Glad to see they improved on a few of the mechanics, but I wish they would've fixed all that was wrong with GR1 since the level of content in 2 is so high. But as long as the movement is still fun, the story is still interesting and Kat is still cute, I'm content.
Jim. I completely agree. I'm still going to get this game used as well as every fucking first person sony game used because if they aren't going to support the vita I'm not going to bother.
guys, im new to this game and recently just found it, it looks cool and i think im gonna buy it, but i wonder, should i play through the first game before getting the sequel? Don't think im gonna get it but rather watch a playthru instead.
You might want to look into the first game if you like to know more about the story. p.e. Raven, the black haired girl from the last shot was a kind of a villain in the first game
Remembered my days with the first game on the Vita. Too bad the system didn't catch on, nor had a good UI. At least the enemies here aren't generic blob enemies as the first.
I had fun and like those games overall. But i don't like the filler ,blunt quests at either of them..i liked that they made targeting kinda better..i didnt like the new power up system
ugh... i see that flying in the game is animated as if you are a ragdoll... even though she clearly can orient her self when gravity kicking or doing that spinning attack thing... also i see the combat is still the same as in Sonic Adventure 2...
I highly doubt Jim will reply, but Im open to others giving me info I played this demo on my channel as well, and I am very much interested in this series.... BUT, do I get Gravity Rush on PS4??? Or Vita?(I love my vita, fuck the haters) Which version do you recommend? Or should I just say fuck it and get both? SOME GIVE ME INFO DAMMIT!!!
I don't blame you, I love the original game to bits, but even I know how uncomfortable it is to play. To me, it's far from a 10/10, and 9/10 is pushing it a lot.
They really shouldn't be taking a cat into that dangerous environment, it wouldn't even understand what the fuck was going on, hell I'm basically a human and I don't understand what the fuck is going on.
Holy shit this game is out?! Jesus, the marketing was terrible! I was a huge fan of the first game on Vita and I didn't even know this was a thing until last month! What the hell are the marketers doing?
George Sears It's out in 10 days
REGorilla Even so.
Nothing because you know, Sony....
George Sears dude the demo is out not the game
colin rice I refer you back to my initial "even so". Kat is to damn adorable in this game.
Welp sadly it wasn't successful enough.
I was wondering why she was called Kat. Then I saw her plummet towards the ground head first and spin in the last milisecond to land on her feet.
Tales Syd gave her the name Kat. The name just stuck.
Ah yes... the PS VITER.
I agree with Jim on the problems he had with the original game, but it was just so damn charming I still fell in love with it. If GR2 is that but prettier, twice as long, and with a better over world, I feel another love affair coming on.
you should see the other reviews, i think you will like it.
Glad to see they kept the SUPER anime boss finishers
I'm so used to the introductions by now, but the the beyblade one got me for some reason.
I love how they put the white version of her main outfit as an optional outfit, that's the color of her beta design.
Really wasn't very interested in this game until I watched this gameplay. The art design of that city is amazing. I'd love to float around that city like that. What dope art style, I might pick this up.
This is the very first time I have been exactly what Jim has accused me of being in the intro.
I really like the art style
I know why there are exclusive games, but I wish all games worth a darn came to PC. This game looks like it might be fun, but after how little I used my PS3, I can't see myself getting a PS4 for any exclusive games coming to it. =/
While the clothing/hair physics and the artstyle do seem to be vastly improved over the original, I don't think I'll be in a *Rush* to buy this one.
You just don't get the GRAVITY of the situation...
Both of you get out!
Oh you *2*...
You are just in a DAZE over the original title, nothing to worry about!
Rory?
You're falling, with style!
*_Last of Us Remastered_* and *_Uncharted 4_* are probably what King James was thinking of.
I like a photo mode... *IF* It's "just there". As in, It's a bonus; I don't ever have to use it. That's cool.

Growing to be a big fan of this series :)
Jim Fucking Sterling, Son: teaching TH-cam how to pick up guys for a quick fling since 2017.
The variety of moves Jim uses really makes this video a chore to watch.
More photography in games? Beyond Good and Evil 2 confirmed!
Are those the FFXV ships?
Indeimaus Holy cow.I have just realised that they look VERY similar, even the way the troops drop off look like FFXV.Not that I mind it,I personally liked the magitek troops design.(aesthetically)
Like Mcterry here just said, I really like the design too, just like the magitek troops from FFXV.
Hey indie! When will dark holes 2 the holening be released to the public? XD
Or top 10 light sources 2?
loved the first one and this one looks even better can't wait to get it
Actually a shame that Sony is trying so hard to kick out both this and the vita. Kat deserves more love.
And as usual, great review from King Sterling.
Really wish this had a VR version. My god would i love to fall around in this universe in frist person VR.
I think this game qualifies as a hidden gem because it's brilliant but was barely marketed at all. I found it by chance because of a TH-cam advert popping up on a vid I was watching. I decided to watch the whole advert and what do you know, it looked bloody great.
in the immortal words of the legion of doom... uhhhhhhhh, what a rush!
Why does everyone in these reviews/previews ONLY use the gravity kick and normal kicks?
Roll+kick = more damage and range than a normal kick
Gravity slide = fun to move around and auto-attacks that are perfect for sweeping whole squads of ground targets
And like Jim said, the Throwing button, which he talks about but doesn't use.
I wish that they had given more fucking melee attacks while in gravity instead of a fucking kick...
Howya Doin Nah I prefer the simple but effective approach to combat this game takes. You've got everything you need.
The biggest problem is that while this is true for ground/human enemies, it’s just not plausible vs bigger nevi. Nevi make up a vast majority of game enemies and you have to spam stasis/kick as much as possible. If the game had no Nevi the combat would be more balanced tbh.
My vertigo took one look at the gameplay footage and walked right back out of the room. XD QQ
This game is the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's method of flying.
Sonic homing attack: the game?
No, that's just called sonic
There's other moves that he chose not to use as he mentioned in the video.
I like the photography modes in games for the sake of getting a good look at the outfits. It allows for nice references for drawing or cosplay. But, I also agree, it sucks when they're bad, and more when they're bad AND forced.
I'm a Boglin.
Instant subscribe.
Let me know if you ever need a place to hide out with your buddies.
Obviously.
I felt the same about Terraway. And I agree that GR2 is really meant for a home console
She fights like sonic the hedgehog. 10/10
This game needs a sequel 👍 if you agree
the other one with photos was final fantasy and i myself loved how they made it in that game.
The 3ds port of Dragon Quest 8 coming out this month also added a huge new photo/selfie mode as part of the added 3ds exclusive content.
I believe that the further away you are when you do the gravity kick the more damage it does.
Nah you were right to be confused there Jim, the stasis field was relatively inferior in the first game, sonds to me likr they improved on balancing The moveset a bit
that moment the intro is aimed directly at you....dranzer ftw
great review Jim. I also thought the pr note that Sony sent you was hilarious due to them sticking with the whole gravity theme. Sucks that you would have to struggle extra hard just to get through it though.
She's fighting Super Mario?
tymcbee lol I thought I was the only one who saw that, good eye
I really dig the art style.
Really loved the first Gravity Rush, flaws and all.
Okay that boss enemy at the end of the video was just straight-up an early Metal Gear model...
The first one was a huge reason I bought a Vita. And it was one of the few games that I actually enjoyed on the console. That said Sony's mishandling of the Vita also meant I'm not gonna be buying anymore of their consoles anytime soon. So I won't be playing this, and I can live with that.
I am glad they nerfed the Gravity kick because in the original it broke the game abd made you almost unkillable as long as you kept kicking.
Yes but now stasis is broken instead.
Sterling teaching devs how to be honest in this industry since the beginning of times...
You couldn't do that in the original, so maybe that's the one you were thinking of.
wariodude128 they also added the swift sail and i hear the triforce shard quest is improved
GammaWALLE yup it's way faster to get the triforce now
I think he is think of Final Fantasy 15, characters take random photos throughout the day. That or Pokemon Sun and Moon.
I've waited 4 years for this! :D
"Fall Me Twice" clever title Jim
Those jet set radio feels
Very excited to play this game.
Seems fun can't wait to get it :D
That does stink about the missions however. I hope she learned new powers and not just the new styles (which are cool)
In Mortal Kombat one of the fatalities was the selfie. I CLAPPED WHEN I WATCHED THIS!
I've never seen gameplay of Gravity Rush. So basically it's Sonic on the moon + Cammy White.
Wind Waker didn't have the selfie feature in the original release, that's a byproduct of this gen too
I love my vita and always will. It's a fantastic portable console
IT LOOKS SO FUN !
fuck that i never could play it
I've never played Gravity Rush but I've always heard about how fucking weird and silly it is and I like weird and silly!
DarkStarAngelo Have you played the games yet?
I'm content with this review. I was expecting GR2 to be like GR1: Really charming with a great soundtrack and mediocre core mechanics. Glad to see they improved on a few of the mechanics, but I wish they would've fixed all that was wrong with GR1 since the level of content in 2 is so high.
But as long as the movement is still fun, the story is still interesting and Kat is still cute, I'm content.
I really wanna get into these games but the first one game me motion sickness
were you thinking of FFXV about the selfie thing
Jim. I completely agree. I'm still going to get this game used as well as every fucking first person sony game used because if they aren't going to support the vita I'm not going to bother.
0:00 He knows me so well.
Potema Dunne. LMFAO
13:20 Jim was definitely having FFXV at the tip of his tongue :P
I really wish this game would would release on pc
Hey Jim, did you saw Exodemon in Greenlight? I think is a game interesting, i played the demo and enjoyment it.
So 3 years later PS4 finally has some worthwhile exclusive.
She looks like the main villain of an early 2000s anime.
guys, im new to this game and recently just found it, it looks cool and i think im gonna buy it, but i wonder, should i play through the first game before getting the sequel? Don't think im gonna get it but rather watch a playthru instead.
The first game introduce some characters and story element that will make a larger role in GR2.
I could be wrong but at like 4:45 I could have sworn that was the psycho crusher
Skylanders imaginations has selfie mode. get em young I guess
I cant wait to play this game!!!
But Jim, I've never even watched Beyblade.
GAME
SET
MATCH
cant fucking wait to play this
Strangely enough, the one thing gravity doesn't seem to affect in this game is the protagonist's anatomy.
? Asking for clarification is beyond you at this point I presume but I don't quite get the implication.
@@fantasyconnect He's saying the main girl has no chest.
That other game was FFXV.
Beyblade enthusiast, well I do like spinning tops
I had fun and like those games overall. But i don't like the filler ,blunt quests at either of them..i liked that they made targeting kinda better..i didnt like the new power up system
Hello you sexually aroused adult Beyblade enthusiasts - the most accurate one yet
wow that intro was oddly specific, its like YOU know me Jim. :(
ugh... i see that flying in the game is animated as if you are a ragdoll... even though she clearly can orient her self when gravity kicking or doing that spinning attack thing... also i see the combat is still the same as in Sonic Adventure 2...
himura kenshiro
you're falling dumbass. Watched the vid yet?
Besides the flaws of the targeting system the enemies look more like bowling pins. That artificial intelligence doesn't look very intelligent. lol
ZapperPenguin holy shit they really do though!
''you foll''. Foll?
FOLL?! ok then Jimmyboy. Folling it is.
Any plans for your chunky plays Jim?
I highly doubt Jim will reply, but Im open to others giving me info
I played this demo on my channel as well, and I am very much interested in this series.... BUT, do I get Gravity Rush on PS4??? Or Vita?(I love my vita, fuck the haters)
Which version do you recommend? Or should I just say fuck it and get both? SOME GIVE ME INFO DAMMIT!!!
Get the ps4 version, it has all the dlc, and costumes you unlock carries to GR2.
Thanks for the info people.
I look forward to picking up these games.
I don't blame you, I love the original game to bits, but even I know how uncomfortable it is to play. To me, it's far from a 10/10, and 9/10 is pushing it a lot.
lol OG Hey Blade was amazing
hey at least Sony are putting more games on the Vita than Nintendo on the WiiU
originalindigodingo lol, the irony.
They really shouldn't be taking a cat into that dangerous environment, it wouldn't even understand what the fuck was going on, hell I'm basically a human and I don't understand what the fuck is going on.
the cat is made of magic
and makes it so the Kat is made of magic
beyblade enthusiast lol
WAIT, HOW THE FUCK DID YOU KNOW ABOUT MY BEYBLADE?!
Tearaway on the PS4 is a different game and not as good. So it doesn't undermine the Vita at all.
Can they at least stop Vogo from making that face?
