Psssst. You should play the first game. It’d explain a lot. Great video my dude! I disagree a lil bit with some of your plot points, but it’s very well put together
Sure! They aren't as much disagreements as they are nitpicks, (I really do think you did a very good job covering the story, but since its my favorite game, I can't help but notice the little things) but the main one that stood out a lot to me was a bit at 17:25 It's when you call that character a 'shadow version'. The character is known as The Other, since that's the only thing she's ever called. The best, quick explanation I can give of The Other is that she's an alternate timeline version of Kat+Raven. (Like Into The Spider-Verse, if you've seen that movie.) Basically, The Other is a combination of Kat and Raven, in one being, just as they were intended to be before they were accidentally born as two separate people in the timeline that we know. Kat and Raven are two pieces of the same soul, personified as The Other, who the creators brought in to show them how to use their powers. I'll go ahead and explain some lesser ones that I thought of while watching, but know that none of them are really too important to the understanding of the game! Mostly just cool details, so you can skip the below if you'd like! (I talk a bit about GR1 below as well, so spoilers for that game) 8:01 I can't really blame you for missing it, since its all in 1, but Syd wasn't always like that. Even though he does act it a bit in 2, he was much more active in 1, where he helps kickstart Kat's adventure, and even name her! 9:06 Cecie was running off into the gravel pits *because* she knew Dusty was there, she expressly knew where she was going, and she had likely been caring for Dusty since she found him, however long ago that was. It's not as much of a 'I wish x was here, oh look, there's x!' as it appears at first glance. (Kat later commends Cecie for caring for Dusty until she found him, making me think this wasn't her first time to that location, and not Dusty's first meeting with Cecie.) 15:01 This is by far the silliest comment I have, but its 'per-may'. I made the same mistake too lol. And yes, they're both big players from GR1! Permet being Yunica's comms partner, and Yunica being the boss before the final boss, and the one who helps save the city. 16:20 Alias, the person referred to here, is also a super big player from GR1. This isn't really a nitpick, but knowing that Alias is in the background, pulling strings even after 'dying' in 1, is a really cool and mystifying experience for the player throughout the story. 20:59 White Nevi are controlled by the royalty of Eto! They have different nature compared to the black nevi, and are white by nature, not by climate. Again, not a nitpick, but cool info! 22:57 Alias isn't exactly dead here, since the real Alias is back in Hekseville. We see a couple of Alias bots throughout the two games, and this also helps connect the dots between Syd's prowess with machinery, mechanics, and technology, and Alias being a robotic avatar for Syd. The hints at Alias being Syd were sprinkled all around the first and second games, and its really cool to see it all come to fruition. 27:12 It's not exactly 'fusing', in fact Cai has nothing to do with it, The Destructive Force took over Cai's guardian, having assumedly been watching and waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. (hinted at by Bit's line of *finally* revealing himself.) What with the old god, Elektricitie, out of the way, and Kat and Raven both exhausted from battle, right then was the perfect time for him to reveal himself and finish off Kat to destroy Hekseville. 28:14 This was actually foreshadowed by the first game, when Alias stole these 'power crystals' that supposedly protected the towns from Nevi. He forms them into the nevi controlling device, the one that he had been saving all this time, and uses it for this desperate need. I know this is CRAZY overkill, and I'm sorry for that. Feel free to ask me if you have questions! But I do hope you at least enjoyed reading it! Again, I loved your video, and its great to see people spreading the word for the hidden gem that is Gravity Rush
Mytherin Dezhrak Thank you! That explains a shit load and now I’m even more inclined to play the first game. I had no idea the “shadow Kat” both Kat and Raven, it makes much more sense now. I’m so surprised I missed that Cecie was caring for dusty but it makes much more sense now. As with everything from Alias I really want to play the first game now cause I found him to to be such a cool character! Thank you for such a detailed comment, I always appreciate stuff like this cause I love the lore. Where did you find this information? I assume obviously from playing the games but is there a website I could go to for more lore information aside from the wiki?
@@ThatBoyAqua I'm so glad you liked it! A lot of information is inference from context clues; not outright spoken, so its mainly just over analyzing language in the game. There's not truly a website around Gravity Rush, at least not one that I know of besides the wiki, but I did learn a lot about the game from the game's community and Discord. That's where a majority of my knowledge comes from; comparing notes with others and seeing what makes sense.
11:39 Explanation She don't remember anything at the start of the first game, including her own name. The name 'Kat' was given by Syd because she has a cat. As for Raven, the name was given by the people of Heskeville. Her real name is Sachya.
I've got to say, going back to the first game, hearing Kat's first line "there was another way, that's all I can remember", it just hits SO different, she was a queen who tried her absolute best to be kind, to save people, and she was ridiculed and betrayed for it.
Dude, you really need to play the first game. While it’s not as big as Gravity Rush 2 (due to originally being a Vita release), it introduces all the core characters and sets up a ton of plot & worldbuilding threads that the second game builds on and pays off. A lot of the stuff you seem to be confused about would make a lot more sense if you had played both games in order.
Finally replaying it for completion... Its not the best game ever but its such a fun, simple, and creative nugget of a game. With more resources, this could have its own "nier" reputation.
Gotta disagree with the idea of ignoring the spoken dialogue. We may not understand the words, but those VAs are giving it their all. The best example of this is the final line of the game. It doesn't even get a subtitle so as to not distract you from the sheer amount of emotion Sakaya Kinoshita manages to get into a single word. Especially alongside the god-tier animation of Raven's face in that moment, taking her from raw desperation to unbridled joy, and the relief of a year's worth of pain finally lifting from her shoulders. ...Okay, I'm probably over-selling it, but it was still a hell of a moment.
Fun fact that monster that attacks the city is the old government experiment from the first game and the Angels are both experiments to do that was probably why she turn into a big monster
Should also be noted while Some story points are explained in the first game, a few non-estential ones (Like the origin story of the Universe) are lore behind sidequest, particular one about photographing hidden paintings (More like chalk drawings.)
This game started slow and i stopped playing then 2 months later i picked up were i left and played through the whole game it's an underrated masterpiece the last 10 hours are amazing it really is something special i was suprised how interesting the story gets

Well you convinced me to buy this game, which is currently one of my favorite games despite it's... Odd plot. My only big problem with it is that it doesn't have a proper lock on system, which isn't much of a problem when I'm fighting hordes of small enemies or a big slow enemy, but I'm always losing track of my opponent when its one on one against a small and or fast opponent, which made some of the bosses flat out infuriating. Especially Elektricitie and her limitless op clones taking pot shots at me. That went from cool to unbearable real fast cause it was so hard to keep track of the real one

Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2 are both on PS Now. You can download both games.. You don't have to Stream them. I just figured out for myself, the first time in 4 years that I actually purchased PS Now. There's so many games on PS Now.. Over 300 of them are downloadable, and over 400 must be Streamed. The problem I had with this subscription, was that having to Stream games off PS Now, because it can be pretty awful. (PS Now, I believe has nearly 800 games, going back to even a few PS2 titles.. Mainly PS4 & PS3 games) -- Sony is in the midst of changing the subscription services on the platform.. I'm looking forward to what they have planned. Shadow Warrior 3 just released.. and Sony got it for PS Now, day 1. It's a download.
Love this game nothing like it, starts out totally different than it ends. It felt like sonic adventure at first than it felt like anime super women. Then it’s all this social class commentary and you are literally flying between classes. It’s great! Only issue is the random ass end, I hate that whole mission I feel like it puts the game mechanics through the ringer for the wrong reasons.
Thank you! I feel like I ding dong because I used my PS Now trial and had the game ready to play but got busy lol, it’s still on the backlog for sure though and I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
Honestly, while this is not a bad video per se, you really should remake it, wether by itself or as a "Gravity Rush restrospective" after you've beaten the first one as well. I really like your content nowadays, but this older video format does not give this series much justice.
I’ve had similar thoughts. The entire video is riddled with misinformation and poor judgment as a whole. I really want to look at the first Gravity Rush but I think I’ll do a series retrospective since while I love the game, this video poorly represents it.
My only complaint is the damn camera and FOV. You spend a quarter of the game with the camera inside of Kat. It can be one of the worst things ever. The issue is that these developers don’t understand how to develop for console, because their expertise and experience with this franchise comes from a handheld. And on a smaller screen like the PSP or Vita, you kind of have to zoom the camera in a bit more otherwise things would be difficult to see, or completely imperceptible in some cases. But seeing as GR2 is a PS4 game, they shouldn’t have pulled the camera back a lot more, we’re giving the player more control over the camera. The reason the camera is so problematic is because it’s extremely easy to get disoriented when you’re using multiple gravity abilities in tandem… And as you’re moving, rotating, and turning, the camera is stuck inside of Kat, or so close to her that it becomes difficult to tell up from down, or top from bottom. This could have completely been alleviated if the camera was pulled back significantly more than it is.
WRONG!!!!!! THE STORY IZ NOT BAAAD!!!!! YOU NEED TO PLAY DA FIRST GAME!!! All All Caps rage aside you can't really say the story of GR2 is bad when it assumes you played the first and expects you to know it.
imthebadguys the point of the plot summary was if you were not convinced up to that point but you are curious about it. I said that if you wanted to play the game you should leave the video and play the game. I’m sorry you missed that part of the video.
The video is pretty shit tier tbh, just get gravity rush remastered and have fun, albeit digital cuz for some reason the physical is a collectors item.
Story objectively sucks? Yikes dude, that's a hot take, especially from someone who loves infamous second son and never played the first game/didn't see any of the other content regarding the series. It's like being confused in kh after you start the series with 3, when there were like 11 other parts to it before then. Dusty is literally connected to her. There is reasoning within the first game of Kat and Raven, so that negative is disregarded. Also it feels pretty low tier to just regurgitate the plot (in a video trying to talk people into playing the game) and just occasionally say something. Like he's complaining about absolutely Feels like he's trying to replicate those youtube channels who just bitch and complain about everything, a lot of which aren't bad. Like "omg I am confused after starting the game without playing the first game or watching the youtube short animation, and the main villain turned into a monster form, so the game is bad" Also your "anime bullshit" comment wasn't funnier the 12th time you said it. Also this game is created by the creator of silent hill and siren.
All your criticisms are true my friend, this was the second review style video I made and as such it was extremely poorly put together. I’d like to think I have improved though.
@@ThatBoyAqua Certainly, I saw your newer videos like the infamous, arkham, etc, this video just wasn't anything but regurgitation of the plot and complaining that everything isn't hyper explained to you (some of which was in the first game), but are explained via other routes. You've improved, but the video is a bit bad, feels like it should have ended before you regurgitated the plot, talked about how unique the gravity mechanics and world were, talked about how likable the main cast is (especially kat), maybe talked about how weird it is to control (albeit that's partially cuz there is no system in video games that replicates gravity manipulation, which isn't simply flying, but falling in a direction). The game isn't without flaws, but the lore is like 9/10 (feels like an entirely unique mythology with so many all-mighty creator gods, the time variance depending on where up or down you are on the pillar, etc), and the story is 7/10 passable, with some interesting wealth inequality themes thrown in to set it up beyond that a simple 7/10, and backed up by the interesting characters. Play the first game's ps4 remaster when it's on sale digital (the physical is a collectors edition for some reason), it's not as over-arching plot deep as 2 got, but it explains the naming conventions of kat and raven, their initial encounters, backstory for kat, you go down the pillar at one point instead of up, and yeah. It's gravity is only the basic model though, and you typically just fight big nevi, albeit there are certainly a decent amount of bosses in it, but you also develop a relationship with the people who are there in the final moments of the 2nd game, and get a lot of alias stuff.
Yea. You can criticize anything. You can watch John Wick 3 and talk about what an annoyingly high octane, unrealistic, action scene to action scene mess it is. Then watch John Wick 1 and say hey. That was a moderately grounded action story with some great action choreography.
@@phant0mdummy I've only seen the first 2 so I wouldn't know. But Gravity Rush is a game that's much longer than any movie. A movie can be summarized in a sentence while a game can't unless it was a indie game that's 1 hour long
7/10 i would give it a 8/10 but im a famous critic so me just being here is enough 1) i find that this video is very god damn late and i didnt hear anything about rule34 2) you could have wore anything but you wear emo pants and a pink shit 3) xbox 360 mic 4) canada sucks 5) not enough ads ruining the video 6) more animal abuse 7) more human abuse 8) its FUCKING RAW 9) Dr. Soulja should have been played in the background 10) too fucking long only watched 2 minutes then acted like i saw the whole video
Straight up that’s why I hate this review lol. I was very biased and formed my opinions based on other reviews and not my own. I really liked the story here but it wasn’t the “popular opinion” so I became insecure and just said that it was bad. I absolutely love this series and this review did not do the game justice at all.
Don't know if the story is so much stupid as it's just super nonchalant about establishing its own rules and does poor job at explaining all the bonkers stuff that is taking place within the narrative. Like there are clearly multiple universes and timelines at play, a fact that is barely touched upon in the story, with Gravity Rush 1 and 2 technically taking place in alternative timeline versions of the same reality. Also lot of metaphysical stuff, like Creators and what they can and can't do and what is the Ark Raven's brother and his friends were sleeping inside at the end of first game supposed to be and where did it come from etc, are never given proper explanation, as far as I'm aware. Also also what exactly is the deal with Kat and Raven being each others' other halves? While they are clearly connected, they can't have literally been the same person, given they were born about thousand years and seemingly worlds apart from one another.
I mean it's like playing kh3 before any other kingdom hearts, there were 11 other kingdom hearts things more or less before it. There is a whole game + an animation before this, and stuff like the different deities existing that make the world questionable, because the old man is a more traditional god figure, while the data one makes you question if the world isn't entirely digital, one that is a god of dream and it's implied maybe the world is just their dream, there are multiple "creator gods" and no clear answer on which is real, but all are unable to fight the threat that is coming, ie why they rely on kat and stuff and support her, because they can't take direct roles.
Psssst. You should play the first game. It’d explain a lot. Great video my dude! I disagree a lil bit with some of your plot points, but it’s very well put together

@@ThatBoyAqua Nice! Looking forward to it
Awesome stuff hahaha Dropped a like and stay connected 😀
Ali 22 thank you brother
Are you streaming on twitch bc I been waiting for a stream notification on TH-cam
Diego Maldonado yes I stream on twitch at twitch.tv/that_boy_aqua
Next time on How To Basic
The reason the camera is so problematic is because it’s extremely easy to get disoriented when you’re using multiple gravity abilities in tandem…
And as you’re moving, rotating, and turning, the camera is stuck inside of Kat, or so close to her that it becomes difficult to tell up from down, or top from bottom.
This could have completely been alleviated if the camera was pulled back significantly more than it is.
It turns out the Raven has a crow not a raven
I LOVE GRAVITY RUSH!
YES
WRONG!!!!!! THE STORY IZ NOT BAAAD!!!!! YOU NEED TO PLAY DA FIRST GAME!!!
All All Caps rage aside you can't really say the story of GR2 is bad when it assumes you played the first and expects you to know it.
I'd got this game from PS plus so long ago. I played GR1 on PS Vita and all I want is to play GR2 on a handheld. It sucks being a Vita fan.
This game was awesome
18:29 that is actually a demon. Let me kill it please it hurts my eyes!
Not gonna lie, I was looking to being convinced, not being spoiled of the entire game and losing half the reason for me to try it in the first place
imthebadguys the point of the plot summary was if you were not convinced up to that point but you are curious about it. I said that if you wanted to play the game you should leave the video and play the game. I’m sorry you missed that part of the video.
Please Ghost of tsushima review 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Dude every "random thing" (including the creators) Was set-up and/or explanined in the first game Your Ignorance =/= plotholes.
please do a analysis video on ace combat 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it bad ik about this hand because of r34
You should get a patreon I noticed you need new pants
www.patreon.com/aquayt 👀👀
not convinced
ShatteredDreams then the game is probably not for you
The video is pretty shit tier tbh, just get gravity rush remastered and have fun, albeit digital cuz for some reason the physical is a collectors item.
Man, for a video telling people to play this game this review is so disrespectful
Like he's complaining about absolutely
Feels like he's trying to replicate those youtube channels who just bitch and complain about everything, a lot of which aren't bad. Like "omg I am confused after starting the game without playing the first game or watching the youtube short animation, and the main villain turned into a monster form, so the game is bad"
Also your "anime bullshit" comment wasn't funnier the 12th time you said it.
No offense but I didn't think you were chubby before 😆
Yea it's a long story but thankfully I'm not that big anymore lol
Can I criticize TLOU2 without playing the first?
A movie can be summarized in a sentence while a game can't unless it was a indie game that's 1 hour long
Jus got it for 20
Awesome! I take it you were convinced then?
yes I was good review my friend
Junior Lindo awesome! Thanks so much
7/10 i would give it a 8/10 but im a famous critic so me just being here is enough
1) i find that this video is very god damn late and i didnt hear anything about rule34
2) you could have wore anything but you wear emo pants and a pink shit
3) xbox 360 mic
4) canada sucks
5) not enough ads ruining the video
6) more animal abuse
7) more human abuse
8) its FUCKING RAW
9) Dr. Soulja should have been played in the background
10) too fucking long only watched 2 minutes then acted like i saw the whole video
👍🏻
bruh
Ooohhhhh
E
The fact you refer to bad story telling as "Anime bullshit" really lowers my value of your analysis.
