There is a small addition I'd like to add. you don't actually have to kill the taurus demon in order to get to the undead parish if you have the master key. if you're going for havel's ring anyways, just use the door he was guarding to enter darkroot basin and work your way up into darkroot garden and finally into the undead parish.

Yeah, you can get the shield and the Astora Straight Sword pretty early on with the Master Key. It's a shame that tidbit wasn't mentioned in the video, but I guess it's pretty well-known now - and isn't too likely to carry you far into the game before you find arguably better equipment.

I played the game so many times back in the day I’ve more or less been able to make a fast tank build focusing on strength and dex that hits hard and isn’t over burdened. It takes a lot of leveling but u can get ur guy to lvl 80 or higher and not be a slow tank that hits hard or a fast def that hits light. U can combine both builds and have a versatile character
Another trick to cheese the guy and get the heavy ring is... walk down the steps till your head is a few inches below the floor(this is the moment he will notice you) turn back and go to the floor you just unlocked. He will follow slowly so wait on the wood next to the steps(his action limit being the steps). Slowly walk him outside. Once he attacks he will slowly walk backwards regardless of where you are or what you do till you step back inside(most he'll do is block). Let him get across the room and repeat. Recommended bow and arrow(cheep and easy) it'll take longer but run less risk of being hit, or bombs.
Good Early Game things you can Get Btw pick Master Key it’s amazing: Fire Keeper Soul Claymore Zweihander Black Knight Halberd (Like a 25% Drop Chance) Crimson Set Havels Ring Ring of Favor and Protection Black Knight Shield (Also like 25% Chance) Grass Crest Shield
My (NG+) build is: • Dark Grain Ring • Havel’s Ring • Mask of Child • Gold hemmed arms, legs and robe. • Black Knight Shield • Black Knight Sword • Pyromancy w/ Power Within If I you have enough equip load, you can get rid of havel’s ring and use coranthy ring. If you don’t use power within, you can boost stamina recovery with Green Blossom as a substitute. Generally, I shield block until I have an opening, quickly swap to 2h my sword, slash, then swap back to shield and block. This doesn’t work well against bosses, thus the dark grain ring.
God how do I become a hard core gamer to be able to truly enjoy dark souls type games. I can never be Patient and calm. I freak out so much x.x... one day I will be able to handle this genre...
You can cheese havel from the undead perish bonfire with a long sword by baiting him to his door in darkroot basin and hitting once and getting back. rinse and repeat.
Love how straightforward your videos have been. I just started playing Remastered, which is my first time playing DS1. I got started into From's world first through Bloodborne, then I got DS3 because it was a used copy and an absolute steal at 14 bucks. I fell in love with DS3 even harder than how much I loved BB, and now I'm finally able to live through the first adventure and get that street cred. I did a blind run to start with, just screwing around and having fun with my Thief (where I found out just how easy and broken the parrying system is) and killing all of the NPCs I met (because why not right lol) Anyway, now I'm going for an actual build and doing some research before I venture into the unknown and your videos have helped greatly in this regard. For instance, I could not find a way to sneak past the dragon on the bridge that drops the drake sword before you told me how. I even got a sniping spot and shot him in the head about 60 times before I conceded that the game was going to make him heal himself faster than I could damage him. But now I can get past him and it's all thanks to you! So thanks! I'm also looking forward to trying out those suicide runs you showed to get some sweet early game gear.
For magic users there's also the titanite catchpole from the titanite demon next to Andre. Similar problem to the black knight ones though. Might have to reset a couple times to get it but it's a powerhouse.
Did you know you can defeat Havel with fall damage quite easily..? Wait for him on the stairs. And right before he attacks simply roll off the stairs. Which damages you very little, and hurts Havel significantly. Run up the stairs again, repeat 2-3 more times, and goodbye Havel!👍 I would highly recommend a Faith/Strength build for new players. Referred to by some as the Cleric Knight. It allows you to obtain the Lightening Spear very early on. While maintaining a strong melee. It also gives you the option to add Ascended Pyromancies the 2nd half of your playthrough. And despite some people discouraging players not to rely on it. Getting the Drake Sword by shooting arrows at the Hellkite Dragon's tail below the Sunlight alter. Helps new players by having a powerful weapon early on. While they are learning the game. With minimal investment, and keeps your equip load low.👌👍
Guys if you get a bow or some ranged weapon just hit the dragon once and that will make him pop down you don’t have to wait for him. Hey guys for that fire keepers soul the first one you can fight the ghosts you will see one dude in a vase and another praying kill the vase dude and it gives you 2 transient curse that lets you fight ghosts. These are expensive so don’t use them unless super necessary also there is another sword if you do use transient curse and survive and kill all the ghosts or not but before passing the bridge you can look back and see an item that item on the dead body is a sword called estoc get it if you want. Idk it’s value or worth but worth knowing about
I would suggest to choose a weapon you are more comfortable with and then set up your build. At the beginning you could plan a quality build , leveling up both strength and dexterity, and then focus on the skill that scales better with the weapon you choose
1. You dont have to kill the Taurus demon ever if you dont want. 2. Blk knight weapons are some of the best weapons for 1st playthrough. 3. Blue tesrstone ring is good for early players. 5. Blk knight in undead burg is super easy and has a good drop rate for his sword.
Your videos are awesome and I’m glad you left the cringy “ice on your fingers” part in the vid, it gave that extra flavor. Lol, I rolled my eyes and laughed at that part.
Recently got the game and i had set up my second character with a build i penned as a Red Mage build, combining melee and sorcery. I may have ended up with a Black Knight Sword super early on so that’s a reason i decided on my build. That and the dagger you get early on in the asylum was kinda not that fun to use. Now i’ve managed to kill the game’s most infamous boss duo.
I like it too but it’s just starting to suck. So I switched to zweihander then upgraded it to a different form of it. It’s now like 240 damage. It’s slow but I like it and prefer it more than the drake sword. I am level thirty something
I preordered dark souls 1 and played it day one and beat it over and over and over until I got ng++++ and now ten years later I still did all these things going in semi blind bc I couldn't remember I mean I can remember this game better than ds2 or ds3 but it was still fuzzy
The first point is a little inaccurate. You say that using a greatsword is only suitable for high strength and to ignore Dex. However if you are using the Claymore for example, its scales with Strength and Dex so having points into each of those to avoid the soft caps can be very powerful. Check the scaling of each weapon you want to use as some might not be a direct strength vs Dex choice.
First attempt usually means an inexperienced player new to the game. Eventually I got to where I can kill him with parries and back stabs. Equip hornets ring for brutality! xD
@@jasonunddasgoldene a bit but it beat getting one shot and having to walk back every time. Lol. You go to the top right before the wall wait till he starts his attack animation then roll off and he'll fall when he adjusts his swing. It takes a good 5 or 10% each fall, just make sure to heal after awhile.
That's a good point about the Ice, dawg. Subbed lol. Thanks for the tips btw, I'm just starting my first playthrough of DS remastered. Haven't played any souls games before but I'm liking it a lot so far.
I restarted this game like 3 times in the past 2 weeks simply because i didnt understand it but after your videos and some other helpful ones i can finally play and enjoy the game
I know it's 5 years late but one thing you can do for the New Londo Fire Keeper Soul is use a homeward bone to escape the ghosts before they attack you
Lautrec only kills the firekeeper after the second bell is rung. You can keep him alive for a little longer and get his help with the Gaping Dragon too, if you want EDIT: Wait, what? Lautrec kills the keeper if you get the third firekeeper soul? Huh.... Speaking of that soul, when you talked about good early shields, there is a bandit's shield on the hellkite drake bridge, shortly before the Red Tearstone Ring which you can also immediately collect. That is not only a really good early shield but ALSO it completely blocks out poison/toxic, which can make dealing with the blowdarters much safer
I try to play as minimal guides as possible though this would be amazingly helpful ))) to save firekeeper without wasting flask upgrades (Also i consumed one cause i though it meant to be done that way damn)))
Don’t waste your time with the drake sword. Farm the drake by luring it into killing all the hollowed on the bridge and run to the bonfire, repeat. Then get your strength to lvl 32, dex at 18. Then kill the black knight just before the boar for his greatsword. If you don’t want to use so much on strength, you can take your strength to lvl 24 and get the black knight sword from the black knight in the undead burg. The stats are basically the same, your heavy and lunging attacks don’t do as much, but eh. You can also get a twinkling titanite to upgrade your sword from the crystal lizard, hidden under a barrel just before the Taurus demon.
Kinda missing the point of the drake sword. It’s just a low requirement weapon anyone can use that hits really hard early on. Not meant to pull you through the whole game. Black knight greatsword is very strong but it’s a full fledged strength weapon with high requirements so it’s not a replacement for an accessible, low req weapon like the drake sword that fits any build at that point in the game. They just serve different purposes so it’s comparing apples to oranges. Not to mention the black knight weapons only have a 20% chance to drop so you can’t really plan on using a specific one. If you know you’re going for a strength build and you manage to get the drop then yes, this method works.
@@TheGhostInitiative I've gottten at least 2 of them dropped for me for every playthrough and if you farm the drake on the bridge, you can get enough to use the black knight weapons easily. plus, you can upgrade them with twinkling titanite that is basically handed to you. Just trying to give a better alternative to new players, not trying to cause a debate. either way tho, if you get the gargoyle halberd, I'm jealous. I rarely get that in my playthru's.
Watching this video made me want to give dark souls another try. The first time around it just didn't click with me. The part I stopped at was after beating a boss inside.a volcano. Also had some huge bone demons not too far from that area..
Basically when you start a new character you're starting weapon is crap for example the pyromancer you start with the fire ax is important to get your hands on the battle axe and what's great the first area you go to after you get out of the Undead Asylum has enemies with the battle-axe and if you kill them enough time they will eventually drop one
I just started playing and i am kinda lost in progres. I don´t know where to go from where and the optional path to go the game. some help in komments would be really nice
Dude! Cant believe u only have 600 subs -- ur quality of content is top shelf. Subbed instantly; these tips are gonna help me heaps in my first blind playthrough of DSR 👍
this might be off-topic but how do i level? like, let's say im doing a dex build, and i get the min req for my weapon of choice, and now, what? i know leveling dex increases dex weapon damage, but when do i put levels into dex? and when i do i put levels into vit or end? how do i make sure i have enough end and vit by the end of the game? for example, dex weapons are really fast, which means of course if i get the chance just chain attacks as much as i can, but that's not possible without enough end and DLC bosses do insane damage, if i don't have enough vit, i might get one-shotted also, if i put too much levels into vit or end, i might not do enough damage to beat a boss with a lot of health(meaning the fight takes longer, the longer the fight is, the more mistakes i make)
You can just have havel follow you a little up the steps, you jump off and take a small amount of dmg, he follows and take a lot of damage. Do it 5 or so times and hes dead.
Is it not well known that you can cheese Havel through the door on the forest side where the Hydra is? You just have to knock on the door and hit him once and roll away before he hits back definitely the easiest way that I found
To be fair, you don't even actually need to kill taurus demon; if you have the master key, you can just sprint to Undead Parish via Valley of Drakes and Darkroot.
1. Decide I'm going to do something new this time around, not just make another heavy armor STR knight with a big lightning sword. 2. Get my teeth stomped in, because early game HP and DEF are laughable and only compounded by early DEX weapons dealing tickles. 3. Wear heavier armor to stop dying so easily. 4. Get the zweihander because it's right at the start and kills great 5. Realize I've made another heavy armor STR character and play through like normal.
So, regarding the Taurus demon Was I the only (new) player that didnt have to kill him? i just sprinted towards him and he _hopped of the bridge_ I mean I know that glitch but it happened without me intending it so I was really confused And really glad
Warning! to new dark souls players! captain run by may not be for You! if you are having trouble try fighting the enemy's to get a feel of how they fight. Get to the undead perish bonfire legitimately and clear everything along the way. it will help you learn what this game has in store for you and teach you what to expect.
So I freed Lautrec and then attacked him. He’s killed me twice now, but one source I’m seeing claims that he will be stuck in the cell until he dies or I get absolution. Is this accurate? And if not, how can I kill this character before he kills the Fire Keeper?
I believe he will stay in that cell, yes, but only until you trigger him killing the firekeeper. You can’t prevent it by leaving him aggressive in the cell. The trigger for him killing her is either ringing both bells of awakening in undead parish and blighttown, or picking up the firekeeper souls in both of those locations, whichever happens first. So, you have until then to kill him which means you can just keep trying right now (he goes down quick if you learn how to parry him, he doesn’t fast roll so he leaves himself open to backstabs when he rolls, or you can lure him down to the bottom of the stairs, run back up, plunge attack, and repeat until dead). You can also kill the gargoyles on the roof, which unlocks access to absolution. Absolving sins *might* make him move straight to firelink but I’m not sure. If it does then you can kick him off the cliff there, nice and easy. It costs a fair amount of souls though so I would instead recommend just spending those to get your weapon upgraded to +5. He should die pretty fast if your weapon is upgraded. You can buy titanite shards from the blacksmith nearby for like 800(?) souls each, or farm them from enemies in undead parish.
Pop 2 humanity, use one to reverse hollowing at the bonfire, then use the other to kindle. Each kindle gives 5 more estus, but it caps at 10 until you get something called the rite of kindling later in the game. With that you can actually kindle to 20 estus. You have to kindle every bonfire if you want extra estus at all of them though so I usually only kindle at challenging areas.
Not really imo, I think any dark souls game is a bit tough on your first run but as long as you find a decent weapon and build your character well you shouldn’t have much of an issue
the best thing to do for lautrec is to not pick up the fire keeper soul in blighttown, until you get the lordvessel, he only kills the fire keeper when you pick up that particular soul, i have tested it and cheese him with poison arrows, imo his fight is bullshit.
Edit: 11:54 You don't actually HAVE to kill Lautrec to get that firekeeper soul but like I explain in the video, he will kill the firekeeper if you don't so I highly recommend taking care of him first. Great tips man! I followed everything you did and I'm already deeper into DSR than I've ever been. This is the third or fourth time I try this game. Thank you!
2:43 undead soldier be like "wooohooooo!" lmao.

Insanely helpful
Thanks so much, I’m brand new to dark souls and really enjoying it so far!
Glad I could help
Good Early Game things you can Get
Btw pick Master Key it’s amazing:
Fire Keeper Soul
Claymore
Zweihander
Black Knight Halberd (Like a 25% Drop Chance)
Crimson Set
Havels Ring
Ring of Favor and Protection
Black Knight Shield (Also like 25% Chance)
Grass Crest Shield
I remember when DS remastered came out and I watched thes videos they really helped thank you so much for your help.
Just beat my first boss for a lord soul. Seath by far was super easy. Getting to him alive was actually the hardest part
If ur quick enough u can homeward bone from the firelink soul in the first suggestion. The ghosts will swing thru u as u teleport
My (NG+) build is:
• Dark Grain Ring
• Havel’s Ring
• Mask of Child
• Gold hemmed arms, legs and robe.
• Black Knight Shield
• Black Knight Sword
• Pyromancy w/ Power Within
If I you have enough equip load, you can get rid of havel’s ring and use coranthy ring.
I did a blind run to start with, just screwing around and having fun with my Thief (where I found out just how easy and broken the parrying system is) and killing all of the NPCs I met (because why not right lol)
Anyway, now I'm going for an actual build and doing some research before I venture into the unknown and your videos have helped greatly in this regard.
Glad I could help, thanks for watching
For magic users there's also the titanite catchpole from the titanite demon next to Andre. Similar problem to the black knight ones though. Might have to reset a couple times to get it but it's a powerhouse.
Dude, the worst thing is that I used to think all the time that CONSUMiNG the fire keeper souls leveled up the estus flasks xD
Ya know what I'm going to say this you are one of the people who help out new players in Dark Souls.
@EveryChevyChase That's what I've been doing.
New player here .
Dude your videos are really awesome, I hope you gain more traction in the community and in TH-cam my dude! Stay holographic! ✌
Thanks dude, means a lot 👍
Your videos are awesome and I’m glad you left the cringy “ice on your fingers” part in the vid, it gave that extra flavor. Lol, I rolled my eyes and laughed at that part.
You are one of the best, most detailed Dark Souls guides on TH-cam. Thanks!!
Thank you
I love your channel you deserve so much more subs man
Subbed
Recently got the game and i had set up my second character with a build i penned as a Red Mage build, combining melee and sorcery. I may have ended up with a Black Knight Sword super early on so that’s a reason i decided on my build. That and the dagger you get early on in the asylum was kinda not that fun to use. Now i’ve managed to kill the game’s most infamous boss duo.
extremely useful informations, thank you.
1. Drake sword
2. Drake sword
3. Drake sword
4. Drake sword
5. Drake sword
It's only good in the beginning
Black Knight Sword
I like it too but it’s just starting to suck. So I switched to zweihander then upgraded it to a different form of it. It’s now like 240 damage. It’s slow but I like it and prefer it more than the drake sword. I am level thirty something
Please don’t get drake sword. Or any dragon weapons. Bad for pve. Fun for pvp.
I preordered dark souls 1 and played it day one and beat it over and over and over until I got ng++++ and now ten years later I still did all these things going in semi blind bc I couldn't remember I mean I can remember this game better than ds2 or ds3 but it was still fuzzy
another good vid, man. Sadly, you've explained why my firekeeper is dead ... now I have to start game over! :(
You can still rescue her. Even after killing O&S you can avenge her.
My first time fighting Havel I admit I kept tricking him off the top of the stairs till he died from fall damage. XD
Casul, just back stab
Josey Speight hahahaha
First attempt usually means an inexperienced player new to the game. Eventually I got to where I can kill him with parries and back stabs. Equip hornets ring for brutality! xD
That works? I like the solution. How many falls did it take?
I know it's 5 years late but one thing you can do for the New Londo Fire Keeper Soul is use a homeward bone to escape the ghosts before they attack you
That classic Robert Ludlum novel: The Lautrec Stipulation 😂
bloody good comment
I actually cheesed Havel by Zweihänder-ingin him through the closed door from Hydras side lol. Anyone else noticed that's a thing?
Lautrec only kills the firekeeper after the second bell is rung. You can keep him alive for a little longer and get his help with the Gaping Dragon too, if you want
EDIT: Wait, what?
1. Kill the undead merchant for the Uchigitana.
That is all.
With the new Londo firekeeper soul you can actually just homeword bone right after picking it up and be fine
When you do a plunge attack do a jumping attack
I have a very good early str build using the zweihander and the grass shield
Watching this video made me want to give dark souls another try. The first time around it just didn't click with me. The part I stopped at was after beating a boss inside.a volcano. Also had some huge bone demons not too far from that area..
L
Why am i watching this? Ive beaten the game 5 times already and yet i keep watching beginner guides to dark souls
cool

Basically when you start a new character you're starting weapon is crap for example the pyromancer you start with the fire ax is important to get your hands on the battle axe and what's great the first area you go to after you get out of the Undead Asylum has enemies with the battle-axe and if you kill them enough time they will eventually drop one
I arrived in Blighttown yesterday and I hate this place so much
nice video partner
keep it up
I just started playing and i am kinda lost in progres. I don´t know where to go from where and the optional path to go the game. some help in komments would be really nice
btw you never have to kill Taurus for anything. YOu can skip him with the master key.
Ahh YES new londo things
Dude! Cant believe u only have 600 subs -- ur quality of content is top shelf. Subbed instantly; these tips are gonna help me heaps in my first blind playthrough of DSR 👍
Thank you, and good luck with dsr
ngl running a pyromancy build is so fun on this game once you got a few good spells
this might be off-topic
but how do i level?
like, let's say im doing a dex build, and i get the min req for my weapon of choice, and now, what?
i know leveling dex increases dex weapon damage, but when do i put levels into dex? and when i do i put levels into vit or end?
how do i make sure i have enough end and vit by the end of the game?
for example, dex weapons are really fast, which means of course if i get the chance just chain attacks as much as i can, but that's not possible without enough end
and DLC bosses do insane damage, if i don't have enough vit, i might get one-shotted
also, if i put too much levels into vit or end, i might not do enough damage to beat a boss with a lot of health(meaning the fight takes longer, the longer the fight is, the more mistakes i make)
Me, has played dsr and beaten it at least 5 times now, "mmm tips for beginners I should watch this"
You can just have havel follow you a little up the steps, you jump off and take a small amount of dmg, he follows and take a lot of damage. Do it 5 or so times and hes dead.
Is it not well known that you can cheese Havel through the door on the forest side where the Hydra is? You just have to knock on the door and hit him once and roll away before he hits back definitely the easiest way that I found
Backstabbing is quick, easy, and efficient.
To be fair, you don't even actually need to kill taurus demon; if you have the master key, you can just sprint to Undead Parish via Valley of Drakes and Darkroot.
Thanks, mate!
I just finished the original dark souls and watching this im seeing how much the graphics change
4. Get the zweihander because it's right at the start and kills great
5. Realize I've made another heavy armor STR character and play through like normal.
Thanks!
Did he not include the drake sword or did I blank on that part? Super helpful for new players.
I did in another video about starting weapons
Liking and subscribing because of the ice flex comment
I finally got this game a few days ago. No idea why I put it off so long :)
So, regarding the Taurus demon
Was I the only (new) player that didnt have to kill him? i just sprinted towards him and he _hopped of the bridge_
I mean I know that glitch but it happened without me intending it so I was really confused
And really glad
Just use the Uchigatana. Katana is the strongest starter weapon.
But only if your build is based on dexteriti
@@abysswatcher7759 of course. I was only build dexterity, because i learn how to dodge, so health and shield was non important for me.
Never played dark souls and i planned out my build. My issue is gear.
Flex line was fresh

Remind Lautrec this is Sparta only the best youtuber can say that😎 #ghost initiative
Warning! to new dark souls players! captain run by may not be for You! if you are having trouble try fighting the enemy's to get a feel of how they fight.
@@TheGhostInitiative Thanks for the advice. Glad I finally got rid of him last night then.
When I freed him and killed the gargoyles I came back to firelink shrine, he hasn't shown up, where is he?
How do you get 10 estus flasks? I only get 10 when stopping at the firelink shrine bonfire. Is there a way to get 10 on all bonfires?
Pop 2 humanity, use one to reverse hollowing at the bonfire, then use the other to kindle. Each kindle gives 5 more estus, but it caps at 10 until you get something called the rite of kindling later in the game. With that you can actually kindle to 20 estus. You have to kindle every bonfire if you want extra estus at all of them though so I usually only kindle at challenging areas.
@@TheGhostInitiative Thanks, that helps so much for boss fights
Tip #6: Do NOT spend any souls putting any points into the Resistance stat
Fuck I put 2 in level 28 cuz I hated getting roasted by fire shit
But- too late lmaoooo
I beat the game and I found out that I miss the DLC so I am going to go on my second play though.
If you played and beat ds3 is dsr any harder?
Not really imo, I think any dark souls game is a bit tough on your first run but as long as you find a decent weapon and build your character well you shouldn’t have much of an issue
the best thing to do for lautrec is to not pick up the fire keeper soul in blighttown, until you get the lordvessel, he only kills the fire keeper when you pick up that particular soul, i have tested it and cheese him with poison arrows, imo his fight is bullshit.
The trigger is actually picking up that soul and the one in parish, or ringing both bells, whichever comes first
Me who already beat the game: I need to see this.
"I will goes as far as he Taurus Demon"
*Beats all but Gwyn and Taurus*
Now what?
