I haven’t tried using the RCAs since the update, but I’m pretty sure you can still use it, just select REL instead of WIR. But this integration is so TIGHT now, I’m ready to throw my RCAs in the fire. Feels like how it used to, but without the crazy drifting. My big test is always chirps (for latency) and drags (for signal accuracy). It’s spot on, will definitely be worth the update after the beta.

I’m new to Phase. What is HID mode? What are you referring to when you say “Phase was once like using a needle, and now it’s like using a controller? I’ve been doing some research on this new Phase technology and I’m contemplating if I should get it or not. Also, for something that cost $400, I don’t think it should be taking away or changing the experience of using vinyl.
If this is gonna take away the feel of vinyl, which is the era I come from, that’s already a huge negative for me. I’ve already experienced that disappointment when I purchased my Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX last year. Great piece of technology , but definitely took some getting used to. It does not have the feel or functionality of a record at all, but I decided to keep it because I wanted to stay up on new and current DJ gear.

You could try the beta and see how you like it. They have other versions available on serato dj so you could easily switch back. For example, im been messing with the beta at home but had a live gig to go to so the morning of the live gig, i just installed the previous version back. Took 2 mins max. But to comment on your complaint, its completely understandable but waaaaaaaay less drift with HID mode

  • @chadmorrislionsinparis

I been using the the new beta and I love it. the fact that you get rid of the rcas and then plug in the regular rcas of the turntable and switch back and forth from vinyl to Serato. thwats dope, before you had to unplug shit just to plug other shit in. its dope.

  • @markl7520

I prefer the Analog feeling using Stylus. Yes, it is sometime a main in the butt sometimes coz u have clean the stylus every now and then. I have Phase but it is sitting in the closet somewhere. I guess I am just hooked up with Ortofon and Turntables. Phase is a definitely a revolution to our industry but just give it a couple of years, it will PHASE out. Yes, I use MIDI Controllers, CDJs, Phase, Touchpads, etc. But, I still spin Vinyls and just addicted to Analog. My views differ from others and I respect that.

As far as Serato beta you can have 2 versions of Serato on your laptop. If you change the name of your current Serato to let’s say Serato 2.4 and then install the beta. You be able to test the beta at home while using your stable version at gigs.

Hi. I 2 prefer the turntable feel over any controler or cdj. But I don't think it's the controle tone or the messing around with cables that can break... I think it's the platter, the pitch, the power on/off (slow motor) function that gives a turntable that feel that I love and those essentials are not lost with Phase! The only thing I do miss is the needle dropping to your cue points :) ...But then I'll just use my needles if I wanna play like that ;)

To be honest, I barely touched my phase since I got a pair of 12’s, but if I was super committed to the feel of 1200’s, I’d still be on the phase program. It eliminated all the occasional timecode issues with Serato and I didn’t really see a difference in my dj’ing. Phase could be your style if you’re committed to 1200’s. Who cares when it's all digital at the end of the day when it hits your computer. The only time you should ever worry about needles really is if you spin real vinyl and actually read music off a record and not a time code signal. Phase is also a digital component and the fact it runs over RCA and then being converted back to digital in the computer makes not much sense to me, you don't have to read anything off a record. It's not efficient and when you can skip the whole conversion and just run straight USB, that's the way to go. It's just a method of tracking how the platter spins. Needles do it in one way, and this does it in another way.

    Hey Nick,
I don't work for Phase, but I am one of the admins for the Phase DJ community on Facebook. They've actually IMPROVED the RCA/tone performance with the new Firmware 6. They've tightened up the response and added a few features for the non-Serato folks like double-tapping the remote to calibrate on the fly.
The HID-mode is entirely optional, and you can still use the Phase in relative mode if you prefer it that way. So, respectfully, I dig your channel, but you got some bad info here man.

I gotta say... you can’t knock it till you try it. It’s not going to be like a rane twelve because you’re still using the 1200 motor. It’s not “rel” or “int” mode, it has its own wireless mode. So you know they’re taking it seriously. I’m not positive but I thought they said months ago when they announced it that it can still be used with the rca wires. I just had an hour long convo with my buddy B Nice who upgraded to the beta and he swears by it and says it feels even better than before. I’m never one to try a beta when it comes to what we do for a living, but when the stable version comes out I’ll be jumping on it. Don’t freak out. Everything is gonna be all right. Can’t wait!

You’re definitely bugging! Lol All I’ll say is try to BETA. You can download both by renaming your current SDJ in the application folder (MAC) that way hit can keep both. I’ll be honest this 100% makes setup way faster and is taking out a possible item that can fail and cause you to have to troubleshoot. I did it on my backup laptop just to make sure first because I can always wipe that one clean and copy it again but man it’s flawless. All the issues with the calibration are fixed. Drift is fixed. The fact that it tells you the battery life on your screen you never have to worry about if they are low because it tells you. HID mode has always been a cleaner flow the only thing I always hated was if you used instant doubles the deck automatically took on the BPM from the other side (CDJs) with this it doesn’t do that and I love it! Just try it. If you need help with being able to rename the old Serato hit me up I can help.

The PhaseDJ stuff seems pretty cool, and the obvious advantages seem to be attractive enough to get them noticed and get a lot of dj's to switch to it as part of their normal system (no bumps/skips/vibration drift, etc). I feel that whether using the tone via needles or HID mode, it is still interfacing with the Software (Serato, RecordBox, or Trakktor ) which is digital. I think when it comes to playing your music as far as preference of weapon of choice it comes down to feel. If you like the feel of Turntables and perform better on them, I think Phasedj gives people another option to do so. I think products like PhaseDJ will prolong the life of Turntable use. manufacturers are not making big money making needles and turntables any more, back in the 70's and 80's it was common to see a turntable in a large number of households. Now a days, is a select few that either do it as a hobby to collect vinyl, or DJ's. I think that at some point they're just going to "phase" away turntables(hehe get it? meh forget about it) and we'll be stuck with whatever becomes the new standard. I don't think it's going to be any time soon but I definitely think at some point they will be gone. that said, I've used controllers, I still use Turntables at home and some events, and I've used CDJ's at bars/clubs. I love the flexibility of the HID mode of the CDJ's, however, it's been flaky...now, I blame that on the clubs equipment because they don't seem to maintain it and it gets beat up quite often. On a friend's CDJs which were in very good condition and with updated firmware, HID perform flawlessly, but it definitely is like converting the CDJ's into a very expensive controller hehe, in which case maybe a controller would be enough for most. In the case of PHaseDJ, I think it doesn't make a difference. it replaces the needles and RCA's, however the feel of the turntable motors, spin and feel hasn't been replicated to perfection by any other controller. They might get it one of these days, but don't think is there yet. If you think about it, that's what the Serato SL1/2/3 interface really was, a controller in disguise. now is part of the mixer, but is technically there, minus the controller platters. i think is just a matter of your point of view, but I don't think HID mode for PhaseDJ will make a difference on how the feel of the turntable is.

@@NickSpinelli I agree. I like being able to play with the scratch vinyl I've spent years accumulating. I still want a pair though, lol.

You would have a million subs with your personality if Djing wasn't so niche.

It was very broke, cue drift and false BPM readings. Now it's on the way to being fixed.

Phase is a great invention but I don't understand why analog dj's that don't have the vinyl to match a digital library keep using them they just need to go over to the RANE set up, is it just for the look? If you're going to go backwards then that's all good but the industry is pushing all digital... Good luck with your decision!

You like the control tone?! Lol, What, why?! That makes no sense, at all. There's no difference in the way it feels except for the drift is 95% less. No not 100%, but now, tolerable. Did you just feel some burning desire to make a TH-cam video and this is whatyou came up with? Your reason is that you don't like HID mode?! Well, you got me, i guess, because I watched the whole thing waiting for valuable information that never came. Hey, thanks for the laugh 😂😂

listen Mr. Cook. I have 100 videos on this channel filled with nuggets. I'm perfectly entitled to make a very short video highlighting some news and giving my opinion on it. Not everyone can be the CEO of Apple!
