    In a TH-cam world full of bad information, this is a really good video. I can see this one helping a lot of folks. I personally go through a 100 point inspection myself. I go look at one assuming their asking price and the. Use a process like this to negotiate my offer. Great video.

    Love the videos! I’m almost done a 91 KX250 that I picked up for $500. I knew it needed a lot of work, but there’s no way I’ll ever get my money back out of it. Bought it as a project and I’m enjoying the rebuild. Getting really close to firing it up!

    I payed 400 bucks for a 94 cr250 basket case project bike couple months ago. Top end is good just a new piston bottom end needs a new crank. They had stock oem crank problems and yup steering stems were junk mine has the stop knob broken off.

    Another thing to ask yourself when buying a bike like this is, “What’s the value of its parts?”, if you were to part it out.
    I wouldn’t pay more than $500 for this. If I later discover the bottom end is destroyed, I know I could make my money back selling parts off of it… or just use it as a parts bike for a better one.

    • @Dirtbikerepair
      @Dirtbikerepair  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is an excellent point with older bikes for sure, and for ones that people want to rebuild. Hondas are a pretty good bike that people want to restore so used parts are worth pretty good money.. if the parts are in good shape... this bike might be an exception... not sure there is many good parts on it ... lol

      With the used prices where they are at it really doesn’t make sense to buy used. Unless you want an older 2 stroke because you want one. I saw a 23 kx250x at a local dealer for 4900$ before tax and fees. Still for a brand new bike why would you pay someone 4000 for the same used. Most people ride them until they’re clapped and sell it’s a shame. Saw a 22 crf450 for sale dude wanted 6000$ and the Honda was rubbed off the seat. I offered a price he was offended and said it was professionally riden 🤷🏼‍♂️.

      In Canada, a New 2023 CRF450, I seen listed for $11,000.00 plus 13% tax, plus fees, I'm pretty jealous of your prices in the states.. a used 2023 CRF450R is selling for 8500 - 9000 here @@SoCalMisfit712

    I like the Ronnie Mac rear fender. That bikes ain’t worth much even if it has the pink. Not sure what they’re worth in good condition but I’d give like 200$ if it has the pink. Another thing to look at is how long the registration is out. More fees at the dmv to get it up to date.

    • @Dirtbikerepair
      @Dirtbikerepair  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Things are a bit different here in Canada when it comes to the registration of off road bikes. But I do understand that could be a big problem in some states

      @@Dirtbikerepair I bought a bike that was last registered in 2020. When I did the title transfer to bring it up to date it was 350$. Im in CA so it’s probably higher than some states, but still a huge factor in buying a bike used.

    • @Dirtbikerepair
      @Dirtbikerepair  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      here in Ontario, Canada. older race bikes like CR, KX, RM, YZ, usually were never even registered in the 90's and early 2000
      and when you do transfer them into your name there is now "Book value" so you just pay tax on what you bought the bike for, then add a registration fee and you are suppose to buy a plate or use one you already have. so basically a $1000.00 bike pay tax of 13% so $130.00 then you transfer it and buy a plate, about $100.00
      so a 1000.00 bike cost $230.00@@SoCalMisfit712

      @@Dirtbikerepair come on down for sure bring lots of cash I got lots of nice bikes 10 or so done bikes forsale plus 20 plus project bikes I'm always buying them. I'm doing a 01 cr250 with title right now started out as a 230 dollar basket case. Just finished a 88 cr250 and have a 89 cr250 I redid can't get 3 grand for it by me. Have a nice 91 cr125 and 01 cr125 all done ready to go. Also have a 93 kx250 and a 95 kx250 both with ohlins rear shocks etc. Can't sell any of them for 3 grand have had them all forsale for a year or two. I have more time into them sometimes money too but ive redone bikes for less parts wise i can still make money even at 3 grand sometimes but I enjoy rebuilding bikes and if they don't sell I will enjoy them even if they sit or ride them. Growing up I couldn't afford those bikes as a kid now that I can I'm building the bikes the way I want. I have a 87 cr500 with title I got for free, lots of people can't believe that one but was a close friend of the family. I've started with worse bikes then yours even a bare roller or just some parts before. I've walled away from some bikes before even if it was cheap it wasn't to me if I kept finding stuff the more I looked at it I passed on a 86 cr250 project already torn all down for 900 only paid 300 for my 87 cr250 so I wasn't interested. People don't maintain these old bikes they lie about years of bikes and everything is clapped out to just plain unsafe to ride. I've gotten luckl buying non running bikes they still need all the little stuff adds up quick but a carb clean new spark plug and air filter change trams fluid and fires right up and runs good. Always check the vin for correct year check for spark then bring a compression gauge also pull the pipe takes a min to do look at piston and cylinder walls. Also check over engine cases etc. I always go look at bikes never even make a offer till I'm there and looked at it in person. I've walked away on bikes before even after they offered me them for even less trying to get me to buy them lol
