Never get tired of these 90s CR reviews. Brings back a lot of memories
When 2 strokes were the only bikes being raced at the nationals.
I would look forward to getting my monthly Dirt Rider Magazine in the mail and the cover would read 96 250 MX Shootout!! Ordering parts from the Dennis Kirk Catalog. Those were the days

I had the ‘96 CR250R & loved it. I actually used it as a woods bike as I was never into MX. All I had was aluminum hand guards & a kickstand. I was a junior in high school then so I was less picky about a lot of things on my bikes then. Like the commenter above mentioned, I remember looking at every page of my Dennis Kirk dreaming about getting all the different parts, gear & a Bieffe helmet! Man I miss those days. The nostalgia…

Another excellent video Tony. The only thing to add (or revise) was that it wasn’t in fact the ‘94 CR250 that went on to dominate Supercross in the hands of MC, but was in fact the ‘93 chassis. McGrath rode a ‘93 spec chassis all the way through ‘96.

I think you are right. I remember finding out about that in 97, with the rest of the MX public. :)

Raced Kawasaki 250 1992 dist. 17 vet class. My buddy / arch rival nemesis had the honda's. He roosted me on that thing. I never even rode a CR until about 7 years ago, was stunned at how rocket ship fast the motor was and how sharp it turned. IMO best 2 stroke motor ever ~ although Ive never ridden a modern KTM.

Ya got that right about violent head shake for 93 and earlier I think. I know my 88 would do that, (stiffer fork springs helped a lot). On a faster slightly downhill with breaking bumps into a corner, I have had those forks banging from frame stop to frame stop. The stiffer fork springs pretty much fixed it for me. I screw up the action of the forks in other ways though. :)

You are laying down some very good history of MX bike evolution; The MX race of the factories. ("The free market MX bike evolution race from 68-85", would be a great show)
You should be hooked up with The Whiskey Throttle Show, as you and them will be top historical references for the sport.
Mathis, (a delusional man much like Weege), will be forgotten for the sake of mankind. He should not be your boat anchor IMO. You are too good at this. Some people reflect the greatness of this sport better than others. Which we choose is a big factor on the direction of the sport. Doug in Michigan.

I had a 1994 CR500 as far as I'm concerned that is the best CR500 they made the best looking and they had the best brochure that year

I meant 94 in last comment not 95.... Since then I upgraded to a spouted period correct pro circuit 304 factory sound silencer on eBay like brand new for 49.99 so I had to get it and tht def woke up the sound and I already had that rare fmf fatboy pipe (not fatty fatboy) which is I guess another period correct fmf option but it is def a thinner gauge metal but it's friggin massive like the size of my thigh and it really perks up the low end and just rips I love the fmf/ pro circuit combo now it def a viable setup

Hey you finally did my bike and thank you I actually learned a lot about it I didn't know from this video but anyways knowing how humans are extremely precise and economically shrewd and manipulative it seems more like a political situation with the suspension with Honda having such a good bike all around it's almost like they knew that privateers or normal ambitious racers are going to get their suspension upgraded anyway so by making the settings bad forced the riders that take their new bikes to the local suspension tuner shop and likewise might have helped boost some revenue for that particular industry within the Motocross wider realm..but who knows really it just doesn't seem like Honda to have such greatness on a machine as far as engineering ergonomics and design principles and just totally fail at such an important component vital to winning races keeping the bike and you efficiently charging forward saving energy and going faster ....but neways I def notice the more smoother motor I actually got my 95 w a fmf turbinecore spark arrestor and with that I swear it made bike sound like a Yamaha blaster or like a stock corked up rmx and kinda a neutered exhaust note but I'll tell ya it sure hits harder than it sounds!!!! Lol

Notice you have much more information about the suspension than any dirt bike magazine today in their tests.
I guess when there are no bumps to speak of on the groomed tracks, all they want is bottoming resistance for the groomed 50mph jumps.
I think TT racing has made a comeback. :)

Looking at the forks at min 10:30, and looking at the SSS forks on my 2019 YZ 250 2-stroke, man, those upper fork tubes have gotten beefy over the years. Those clamps and straight looking tubes on the 94, (there is some taper there) look so small compared to the bigger clamps and much more exaggerated tapers on the SSS forks.
I'm just going trail riding. :)

    Second best year visually....
Additionally look how they already knew the next generation of side plates to come because the air box was already molded to accept the number plate before it was visible to the public

Oh and my 94 cr250 has kyb forks ...the logo sticker still intact and doesnt have those grey guides either since that's a showA design...Tony, would you know of a common swap people did back in the day to help fix their crappy cr fork performance.....did they use a kayaba fork like mine from another year that was better before or something cuz I guess these kayabas I have could be off a newer machine and I wouldn't know how to tell what model they belong too..!!

    • @jeffv.akaonsjeffke9865
      @jeffv.akaonsjeffke9865 2 ปีที่แล้ว

95 has 43mm kayaba, 96 has 46mm kayaba. 92-94 43mm showa. Your bike is more likely a 95 with an older plastick kit on it. Check if your front hub is the modern grey coloured one. Cause in 95 the hub/axel distance got wider, even the head tube became 5mm taller. So not easy to put a 95 fork on a 94 frame or vice versa.

Tony...what is the deal brother? Love your videos but you've done 92, 96, and now 94 cr250...all basically the same dang bikes from 92-96 other than some minor tweaks. Getting redundant.

I love Tony's videos. My only point is the 92-96 cr250 has already been reviewed on this channel an excessive amount. 92 review, 96 review, history of cr250, 92 250 shootout, and now this 94 cr250 review. I love the 92-96 cr250 and have owned 3 of them.

    • @EarthSurferUSA

"Redundant", you are now using out of context. I just looked it up, and it now means "FIM SX tracks". :)
