Mike is one of the best cameraman around, I love the way he takes the time to show the extra cool things in their surrounding area. Everybody does a good job over there and I love your videos.Keep up the great work guys.
I applaud Mike and Shawn when they praised the two riders for the good decision to ask for assistance before they got into serious trouble. Those of us with more experience and/or knowledge sometimes forget where we started. Thanks for sharing...and teaching us about the local trails and trivia.
Those bikes weigh about as much as 2 dirt bikes, even when riding a dirt bike in rough terrain, an extra 50 lbs. makes a huge difference. Add the heat and exhaustion and it can become pretty dangerous fast.
@@gvillejeep Getting pinned under one of those could easily mean a broken leg etc. And when you're buddy is as tired as you are may not be able to get into a position to pick the thing up with you underneath it. Just one scenario I can think of. Even if I was tall enough to ride and handle one, they're far too heavy for my liking. Even the TTR 230 at 250 pounds is way too heavy for what it is.
Nothing but respect for people who realize they're not in a great situation and don't get stubborn about asking for help. Perhaps this channel one day can do an overview of various roads and trails in the region so visitors have a true insider's source of useful information before they get on the road.
They do the whole overview thing for whatever trail they're on when doing every rescue,, mentioning how each is affected by the weather and everything else during the year
"change the shocks on your boat, dude". That's some comedy gold right there. Nice recovery on some very expensive bikes. Riders showed good judgement getting off the mountain before something bad happened. Hopefully, blue is satisfied with the new trans. You guys are getting a lot of practice.
Top job rescuing those bikes. Sadly, as we get older, our bodies start to limit our abilities and a lot of people struggle to accept the changes. By all means fight it to the end, but as someone once said "a man's gotta know his limitations".
As usual Rory is showing what a great boss and human being he is by showing great concerned about Mick and Sean being so late getting back from a recovery. Justified to, because 1 tiny mistake on that canyon rim road and you never have to worry about transmissions again.
love it when camera mike does his job better than most pros. thanks for not ripping on the old moto guys. im sure they appreciated the professionalism from you guys. love that Rory also got worried and came to check on you guys.
Dare I say but Mike has the potential to be the next Paul Harvey or Dodgers great, Vin Scully, with his wonderful narrative on the non-native trees and beetles. I actually learned something about your office environment because of this detail. Also, I love the respect and concern Rory showed for his men. Awesome team.
Mike & Shawn are lucky to have a friend like Rory who is concerned about their safety and well being so much to even come and check on them to make sure everything's cool with their rescue. And being outin the desert part of the canyons concern is a plus especially given all the possible scenarios that could occur.
Nice work Mike and Shawn getting those bikes out of the canyon. The riders knew when to call it. I saw the worried look on Rory's face...great boss and team.
More job/s well done. I recently heard that doing a job is 50% getting there and the other 50% is doing it with a smile. You guys IMMEDIATELY came to mind. When only the best will do.... send the Trail Mater crew.
Thanks Shawn and Mike for this recovery of these two gents who had enough fighting the sand. They even told the guys that they made the right decision to call it quits and get some help. That was one dangerous trip down that road that the trailer and Jeep barely fit on! As usual beautiful scenery and our hats are off to Shawn and Mike for a good video!
A long day guys and you're still laughing! It makes my day. Kudos Rory for worrying about your guys and making sure they were OK. I remember seeing those switchbacks from above on our trip to Moab. They're more impressive than the camera can show.
I love vicariously meeting the folks on adventures you encounter on the trail - thank you all for the cool videos you take the time to put together for all of us in TH-cam land.
Good instincts all round knowing when to quit, knowing when to check on your people, knowing how slow to go to get home in one piece. Kids would learn more from this channel than a lot of stuff they tried to teach us in school. I hope this transmission is the magic one that lasts for you!
Always love the Mike and Shawn show, such a good crew. I'm so glad you guys do recoveries like this, way better for people to bail out than think they have no option and continue on until the real bad things happen.
Thanks for pointing out the Tamarix. People don't realize how much water is lost to non-native vegetation. It would be one thing if there weren't reports of massive flooding, record-size hail, and people dying from the heat-index. Water-vapor is a greenhouse gas, and it traps heat, despite the reduction in temperature from evaporation / transpiration. The aquifer and surface waters are depleting, while the atmosphere is trapping heat.
One of the best views you will ever see in your life is at the halfway point of this trail at white crack. Had the privilege of being able to camp there in august. You need a permit to access the white rim trail. Totally worth it, and fun to see a small portion of it again.
That's the problem.with the big 1200 adventure bikes .. great to get you there, but insanely heavy on the trails ... it's why I've stuck to the 650 sized bikes ... capable for highway, and doesn't ruin your day off road. Smart call on their part to call it before things went downhill. Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I just came here to say the same thing. They were honest, that they should have researched the trail more. But it takes maturity and experience to know when to call it. I'm just over 60 and in great shape. But I get tired. I can easily get myself in trouble especially living and loving the backcountry of Colorado. I never want to put anybody else in danger to come rescue me. So I'm very careful and don't let my ego take over.
I am 76 years old, and have been riding dirt bikes since 1966. I was never real fast, but I prided myself in the fact that I could go places that others could not. I sold my 1986 XT600 in the early 90s, and started riding quads. I could ride my 600 for 8 hours, and I would be stove-up for 3 days. I could ride my Polaris quad for 8 hours, and then ride it for 8 hours again the next day. The quad rode that much better!!! I have been retired now for 12 years, and a couple of years ago I bought a 1994 XT600. I tipped over one day, I did not crash, I just tipped over, and it took me 25 minutes to figure out a way to lift up that high-geared top-heavy bike. I loaded it up and took it to my favorite bike shop and had him sell it. I then bought a 2022 TW200. I rode it for 2100 miles and over a lot of dirt trails, and I came to a sad conclusion. I just can't do what I use to do, and I WAS fairly good at it, 40 years ago. I just sold it last week. I bought it to go on single tracks, and I learned that my balance is off--------my timing is off-------and it scared me to death riding over easy trails. Both of those Gentlemen were old enough to know better. Those types of motorcycles are good on gravel or GOOD dirt roads. They are not good in a place like Moab. My quad, as awesome as it is, is not capable of going up some of those rock walls that are prevalent down there. I also ride alone 99% of the time. I will stick to the under 50" trails here in Idaho. As far as riding alone, I always carry a Personal Locater Beacon with me, because, crap happens!!!!
your station is one of my favorite ones to watch, utah is so beautiful, I live in estes park co, for 52 years a little different scenery. Some the winter the elk won't let me in my driveway, there can be 20 to 50 or more so i just go slow and tell them get out of my way They look at me and say mellow out. You guys keep doing what your doing. thank you.
Just so you know I love watching your shows. Was watching one last night, 4 years ago was deep into watching a man and his truck and a dream. Now look at you! Still love watching your shows.
Sometimes it is better to stop and backtrack or call for help if you need it. We were out on Metal Masher and realized we were beating up our 4Runner more than we wanted. We didn't plan on running the whole trail. It was cool, but a somewhat easier trail made more sense for us. Glad we had everything we needed to get back ourselves. Awesome video as usual.
Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five reference for the win! Rory with the bonfide look of concern for the two... Mike and Shawn travelling after dark and Mike videoing the deer.. Shawn thinking, "please dont walk on your hind legs!"
If Mike had his deer license in his pocket, they could have had a deer carcass on top of a soft top jeep, no can do as hunting at night is illegal. I agree with your reply. But Rory was not only concerned he was very tired. Facial expressions speak many words.
Wow, great show, very cool to see people working hard and enjoying it, the bikers are smart outdoor people that accept and get help they look like they enjoyed the truck trip back. Mr Irish look very happy with old blue on the road again. That yellow thing is putting in a good full workdays.
Motorcycling of all kinds is supposed to be a tradeoff between challenge and fun. These men are wise enough to know when the tradeoff is out of whack. They can get back on the trail another day.
Mike focused on some amazing geological things to enjoy. On the way out Mike gave is good look at a narrow pass that had a lot of pieces of rock ,like plates stacked, that looked like they had washed out from between a couple big rocks that were curved ,like hands with fingers used to make a C shape. Cool formation, Mike. You and Sean make a good team.
Fun fact!: There are 2 Colorado Rivers in the United States. There's the big Colorado River in the West, like the one that matters and is in the video, and then there is our stubby little Colorado River in Central Texas. It feeds our water systems, but its pretty boring otherwise. Classic Texas having its own Colorado River.
When driving, you should have a 360-camera mounted 6 ft up from the back of the roof on the Jeep so viewers can get a feel of the terrain and the vehicle driving through it. It would probably look much like a drone shot.
thank you very much for your video, Love you guys. such a treat. blessing for me, takes my min off of my predicament and transfer me to where you are. Thanks Rory for sharing your life with us all. The Lord Be With You.........

I agree. Tough for dudes to ask/accept but those are heavy bikes, etc

You and Paul should get together and buy transmissions in bulk.
😂
he needs to beef it up a bit, maybe a b&m trans kit for that blower.
😂
Get the ole 6 pack pallet o' transmissions from the nearest Costco... don't forget a rotisserie chicken as well, and a hotdog and soda as you leave.
Why would they want to have a pallet of pre blown up transmissions they just need to look for better builders than who they’ve been using
The old guys made the right call.
Look at Rory fueling up and headed out to check on his crew.

Raspberries for grossly overestimating their abilities. The world has suffered enough from gratuitously awarding participation trophies.
That trail is a lot easier when you are 30ish and on a 300cc. Although MTN bikers often do it in a day.
