    I love kayak fishing and really love fishing the big boats like the ‪@HobieOfficial‬ #proangler14 or the ‪@OldTownCanoeKayak‬ #sportsmanautopilot120 because of the stability and incredible fishability. But those boats are very heavy. So heavy, that for me the only way to go is a trailer. When looking for a kayak trailer, I wanted a trailer with a suspension and tires that I could trust to drive long distances all over the country. I started with the Malone Microsport and if you watch to the end, I do a comparison with that trailer and the new trailer I just purchased. The Microsport is ideal for probably a vast number of kayak anglers. It is light, affordable, nimble, yet you can drive long distances without issue. I decided to upgrade to the Tourney Light from On The Water Innovations for a number of reasons. The number one reason is that I hated lifting my kayak on and off the Malone trailer. It was a real pain. The Tourney Light is made to literally drive right into the water on a boat ramp which makes loading and unloading a heavy kayak great. Another great selling feature for me was the built in ratchet straps. They are so convenient and much better than using straps that are easy to lose, get tangled, etc. Another awesome feature of the Tourney Light is the built in rigging lights. This is just so sick for early morning launches. You literally can rig your boat up in the dark with no issues. The suspension is also incredible. The trailer drives like a dream down the highway. To top it off, the rod tubes are of the highest quality and really make this trailer one of the very best on the market.

    WOW!! This is an awesome trailer!! I want to upgrade to a sit on top but, like you, it’s just me and I load and upload myself. I wonder if this would be an option if I decide to get a sit on top kayak. I love that trailer you have!! I love the rod tubes as well. Awesome light trailer!!

    It's easy to lower the mounting position of the Kayak on the Malone trailer, AND, it lowers the center of gravity of the trailer and loaded kayak greatly. To create clear space for the kayak, re-mount your spare tire to the bottom side of the trailer frame anywhere forward of the rear axle. Then you can re-mount the horizontal kayak mount bars directly onto the trailer frame. Once you water seal all the trailer wiring, you can then back the kayak directly into the water. Lowering those kayak slide tubes on your new trailer even just a few inches, would make it MUCH easier to load and unload your kayak, too.

    • @MrBassTV

  • @michaelcogley3150
    @michaelcogley3150 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have an AutoPilot 120 as well. Love the the boat, but like you said, it's getting a little old loading and unloading it from the truck. Do you trailer with the ipilot motor on the boat? I noticed in the video it's not on the boat. Also, near the trailer receiver hitch there appears to be a small black plastic box that is side-mounted. Maybe a dumb question but curious what its for?

    • @MrBassTV
      @MrBassTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I leave the trolling motor on the boat. Most of the time I remove it. I think the constant vibration is not good for the mounting bracket bolts. The plastic box just is a junction box for the trailer wiring. It's a great trailer

    Nice trailer but another option for people not wanting to spend $1800 for the VERY base Tourney model is to buy a two place jets trailer. They are built just as well if not better and can be picked up used for around a $800 in good condition or buy one in need of help as I did and end up with $550 total into it with new paint, led lights, tires, wheels and bearings. Recently hauled our Sportsman 120AP and our Lightning Strike from northern Michigan to Savannah over 1000 miles and they never budged. Just an option for the budget minded.

    Nice video describing both trailers. Why don't you take your reels off of the rods when you put them into the tube to travel? I use rod and reel covers myself but having them bounce around inside the tube when driving seems like asking for trouble. I would think at minimum you would occasionally get scratched or broken reel handles.

    I have a similar set up to you with an AP120 and a Malone trailer that is a struggle to load and unload as it's to high and not long enough. Have you had any issues loading directly into the water on ramps that are more shallow and not typical angle? My goal is to be able to load and unload without lifting anything by myself so I have the freedom to fish whenever I like. I spoke to Stephen yesterday about options. Anything you would change on your trailer? Thanks! Kathy

    • @MrBassTV
      @MrBassTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s been a dream to load and unload. You will still get wet though. The only thing you may want to add that I wish I had is a hand crank. That will make it much easier to load the boat if you are on a steep incline.

      Not sure about exact weight. I can still roll it around pretty easy. However, if it started rolling on you, it would be difficult to stop it.

      With steel prices fluctuating so much, I am not sure what the cost is for the trailer currently. I paid around $2800 for mine. If you reach out to Denny at OTWI he will give you a quote over the phone.

    Those kayaks look too much like a canoe. I was traumatized by a canoe so I'll pass. I don't think my bad back and neck could take it either. That's a very nice trailer though.

    Re: The very best Kayak trailer, you did not show us the trailer without the Kayak on it. You just showed us the very back with what looked like a 22 degree bend on the end of what also looked like 2 inch abs or pvc???? I want to see the trailer pipes without the kayak on it, I used 3 inch pipes but had to cut the tops off the joints because the front of the boat gets stuck on the joints. Could not see if yours had those pesky joints to attack the 22 degree pipes to the straight pipe.....HELP....

      If you go to 3:55 in the video you can see the rails without the kayak.
