Paul McCartney was asked a long time ago had the Beatles stayed together through the 70's what band they would sound like, and his immediate answer was always the legendary Electric Light Orchestra. Jeff Lynne has many ties to the members of the Beatles.

I remember when I was first exposed to ELO. I did not see any way in hell that a legit rock n roll band could incorporate violins and cellos. Then I listened to "A New World Record" and was blown away. Then I saw them live... and was sold forever! Respect to Jeff Lynne for his musical genius and willingness to think outside the box.

Correct. It was also the first ELO song not to have strings. Jeff came back into the studio to record what he thought was a needed album banger well after the group and contracted orchestra were long gone.

Jeff Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Grooss", which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "Gruß," meaning "greeting." Lynne has explained that originally he did not realize the meaning of the syllable, and he just used it as a temporary placekeeper to fill a gap in the lyrics, but upon learning the German meaning he decided to leave it in. After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows. ELO engineer Reinhold Mack remembers the term differently, stating that Lynne was actually singing "Bruce" as a joke in advance of an Australian tour "referring to how many Australian guys are called Bruce

I’ve been trying to pinpoint what it is about reaction videos, certain ones in particular that people watch over and over. Subscribe to, check every day, etc. At first I thought it was just the reactors really loving a song and being moved by the same things I like. But now, I’ve followed different reactors and kind of stuck on your channel because you like the music I like, and it’s nice to see someone else like the same things. It makes us feel part of something bigger. That’s a small portion of why going to concerts is such a church-like experience for me.
Validation is a nice part of watching reaction videos, but it’s much more than that. I think in our busy lives we are not as connected to other people as we used to be. We don’t have the time anymore to just sit and chat with people and listen to music together and talk about it. I used to do that when I was younger. “Did you hear that line said about...” and “Yeah, but did you notice that guitar riff?!” “Last year when I listened to that I was going through a breakup...” “I used to sing this in my room after an argument with my parents/boss”, etc. We used to just sit and enjoy things and contemplate together and songs were an avenue to open up about those things that we normally wouldn’t have just brought up in conversation. I think a lot of us have lost that because of our busy work/parenting schedules, and YOU, Jamel, helped bring it back. You are very real and personable. Do you know how many times I’ve almost talked at my screen at you? It’s like you’re here in my living room. Anyway, sorry this is so long. I needed to type it out and maybe some others have noticed the same thing. ✌🏼

Noticed indeed! So much of this rings true for me! I, myself would listen to our only 2 pop/rock stations in Medford, Oregon while building tree forts, and model railroads/slot cars. I got a bit older and, YES, the skating rink, then dance club. E.L.O. Somehow fit into every part of that, as did so many of the songs you react to Jamel. I think you are a one in a million and love your show. I thank you. And thank you “Crannbeathadh”, you hit the nail on the head!

Yes, and I also remember buying a new tape and driving around in my pos car with my friends and singing loudly. I still do that by myself

Listen to Eldorado Overture/Can’t Get It Out Of My Head. Some of their earlier 70’s material is more prog. This is off their album Discovery which came out in 1979. Last Train To London, Shine A Little Love, Confusion, The Diary Of Horace Wimp, Midnight Blue, those are some other songs off of Discovery. Kuiama is a great 11 minute epic, from ELO.

Todd Dawson oh cool. Rush is my number #1 favorite band. Actually listening to The Trees right now as I’m writing this comment. Unfortunately I always wanted too but I never could. In terms of musicianship and skill Rush is sometimes unbeatable. I want to get the 40th anniversary. I also want to get the A Farewell To King’s, one. It’s just hard with Coronavirus. Stay safe and be careful. This guy ranked Rush albums, and he put Hemispheres in the bottom part of his list because it’s has only 4 songs on it. Everybody else I’ve heard talk about Hemispheres they say 4 great songs. Almost nobody agreed with him in the comments. Stay Safe.

Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra from The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame site: "Picking up where the Beatles left off, ELO expanded the concept of great melodies, epic song structures and grand orchestrations. ELO added an exciting mix of elements into rock and roll, including disco rhythms and electronic studio wizardry. Imagine a marriage of tuneful, rocking pop songs with instruments from the symphonic realm, and you’ve got the blueprint for what made ELO one of the most popular groups of the 1970s and beyond.
Jeff Lynne, ELO’s vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, co-founder, and frontman, conceived of a rarefied musical sphere in which cellos coexisted with guitars, and where classically tinged progressive rock intersected with hook-filled, radio-friendly pop.
The result: ELO’s boundary-breaking approach to rock that resonated with a global audience, both as a pop singles act and as album-oriented rockers with deep-track appeal".
