As many artists back then, Jeff Lynne was trying to ride the disco train. But he came a bit late to the party. At the time this album was slashed in the music media and I must confess that I wasn't impressed that much either. After albums like Eldorado, Face The Music, A New World Record and Out Of The Blue it just didn't live up to the standards Jeff Lynne set. It took me quite a few years to really appreciate this album.
Released right after Xanadu, a very heavily disco movie. And Xanadu had a roller skating theme. (I've heard Jeff Lynne say that Xanadu was the biggest mistake he ever made.)

Hi Jamel, the break in the middle at 4:50 is Richard Tandy on Synthesizer. On a side note: this song was especially big in Middle and South America back in '79. It's one of the biggest hits of all time in Argentina (# 1 for 14 consecutive weeks) and widely popular there 'till today. Cheers from Germany.
I saw Jeff Lynne and ELO a couple of years ago. He STILL sounds the same and he can fill a stadium with a wall of beautiful. He’s an amazing artist that I loved FOREVER!!! Full strings and it was one of the best concerts ever.

That is the ELO i love the most.

As a young kid in the 70s in London this song is so atmospheric; because of what it evokes (for me at least) hot summer nights, London suburbs, Brick buildings, weeds, grassy school playing fields outside 50s school buildings, heat, office workers going home in shirts, ice creams, wearing t-shirt, (short) shorts and sneakers/flip-flops
This is my favorite ELO track, the disco beat is great, but it is the strings, together with the heartwarming lyrics ("But I really want to make this last forever, I really want to be with you") that gets to me most. My favourite band from my home city. I remember contacting New Street Station in Birmingham and asking what time the last train to London left when this song csme out. The last train left at 9.29pm lol.

I, too, had never heard this song, and was just transitioning from radio to the record biz in '79/'80 when this came out. When you consider the name of the album that this song was on was named "Discovery" or as it was known among a few "Disco Very", it's not surprising that Disco threw up all over it.

ELO were huge in Australia . You could not get through a day without a radio station playingg a few songs from ELO . Along with ABBA , Eagles, Chicago, Deep Purple, Sweet, Status Quo, Slade , Doobie Bothers, Steeley Dan, Elton John , 10CC, Supertramp , Boston , ZZ Top, Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond and Led Zeplin ... ELO ruled the airwaves.
