I’m curious why so many don’t like the car. I am buying one. It drives like a dream. The i5 edrive version is plenty fast. It’s luxury. The tech is wonderful. I’ve test a number of EVs and it’s not close. Tesla is boring. YES it’s expensive. YES it won’t home value like an ICE car. That’s not the point. All cars, especially luxury and EVs lose tons of value. For me, I drive 3K a year. It will be garaged, well maintained. I keep it for 6-7 years it equals 2 leases value and I have some modicum of a residual. To me you get the luxury of a BMW and the geek factor of an EV. I drive 20 miles a day. BUT, if you needed a car to drive many miles at a time, this ain’t it. Public charging sucks. I will never use. And I will not have to go to a gas station! LOL 🎉
Demand for electric cars has dried up. It’s time for a rethink The electric car is not popular today. The early adopters have all bought theirs so now the car giants are having to persuade “normal punters” of the merits of going electric. And they are having none of it.
@@joakimkarlsson4274 not really - BMW were designed for ICE which means a radiator grill. The sweet spot of the 5 series was a couple of generations ago... This heavy overpriced horror with glitzy, teenage glam bings and bings interior appeals to no blue blooded BMW driver.. Straight line acceleration plus Star Trek noises wrapped up in an Uber expensive package with no practical range... Why??? A twin turbo diesel motor is what the 5 series needs at its heart.. Just took my 2017 530d in on a recall for the driver airbag and used the time to thoroughly look at all the cars in the showroom and they had an i5 touring in there. Sat in the drivers seat, lovely car as is my 530d but obviously this has the electronic stuff. I needed to put my glasses on to see everything (don’t need them in my 530d) but I would be ok with that. Anyway, I set the seat up for me (I’m 6’ or 183cm) then I sat the back. Total show stopper! Because of the raised floor to accommodate the batteries my knees were just about in my mouth - it was just awful! Could never buy one of these and for now i will be sticking with my beautiful and solidly made 530d.
Sorry to be blunt but this review just proves you are not reviewers, you are promoting a manufacturers products. I drive an i4 which is over 2 tonnes. I had a BMW i5 as a weekend loan and it was like driving an electric brick. The car is so so heavy it ruins any BMW dynamics. I can’t see how you can possibly recommend it or say you would buy one. Current sales and more impartial reviews like Harry’s garage are testament to this. It’s a flop.
Actually think this is the first bmw in a while that looks good inside & out! Agree diesel will be the choice for private drivers but the company drivers may prefer this or plug in hybrid
This a lot of money to have to tolerate an awful UI, dismal range and being blinded by the dazzle from plastic, sorry, crystal nonsense scattered about the cabin while trying to work out what Expression you want and why there isn't one called 'Frustration'. Cars like this really show the flaw in the EV argument and why so many people are switching back to ICE - it's just not good enough. Instead of spending time on gimmicks, mooing sound effects and tacky LED lighting, manufacturers should focus on efficiency, charging speed and good ergonomics so that the cars are actually useful, easy to drive and deliver on their promise of a lower cost, greener way of getting about. Great review though 😁
Just a note I paid £54k )not £70k) for M Sport Plus with tech plus, comfort plus, panoramic sunroof upgraded 21” wheel bmw individual cody green colour and a ton of other stuff.
Overpriced and 'under-ranged'. My G30 diesel has been my best vehicle yet but nearly out of warranty and time to hand back to lease co. The tax advantage of ev for business is iresistable but I am really struggling to switch, I think true driving pleasure is being removed by these electronic boxes on wheels
Owww!! WHY did you have to utter that godawful 'frunk' Americanism??? We've had boots in the fronts of cars over here for decades before Musk came along and stuck one in the front of his cars (what have you been calling the front boot of a Beetle or 911 all these years??). When will this import of nauseating American portmanteaus ever end?? 😭
Too expensive and it will be worth nothing in 4 years we all know that, tax incentives wont make up for your loses over a diesel car the 520 D was the best all round car you could buy 60 mpg and comfort and room
Just entered that reg number with 500 miles on the clock into couple of car buying services to get a valuation. The highest offer came at £37k. 😂😂😂 So go and buy one
Garbage comment makes no sense, with home and office charging it’s average for class, ..Petrol Hybrid is best option unless doing 30.000 a year, and seems value for money and if not pure electric depreciation is again average.
I drive 25,000 miles a year and have just take delivery of i5 M sport pro. It’s a stunning car great range for me circa 320 miles. I have a charger at home and work so all good. Tech, Drive and comfort is awesome. So in my opinion it’s a fantastic car and way better that the any other fully electric saloon on the market now.
Looks dreadful...the daft interior colour thing looks gimmicky, and as always no mention of the Genesis Electrified G80. I've owned one of these for what will be 2 years in July, and as I've said many times, after twenty years of Jaguars and a Maserati Ghibli the Genesis remains the best car I've owned. Pity the utterly blinkered motoring press don't stick their questionable brains into gear when looking at this sector, i/o looking at the usual ultra boring German cars!
This is one of the more acceptable designs from BMW. Not in favor of the i5, I prefer ICE, and I do think the rear looks like a GAC GA8, but based on looks alone, I'd pick this over the E Class now.
Meanwhile BMW just announced EV's are taking a back seat for Hydrogen development. Tesl sack 14k workers and cust prices, due to reduced demand..... And many, many EV owners also have a ICE car in their driveway.
BMW's are horrendously overpriced and their design is not exactly ground breaking.Same yourself a wad and buy Korean, Chinese,or Tesla product or if you must buy BMW then an X2/3.
Why do EV haters watch reviews of EVs? I assume they just like being angry. Thanks, Vicky. Good, honest review as ever.

To be fair the 5 series has been around 60k mark for half a decade now.😂
Good review. I have a 530D M Sport. It’s difficult to get enthusiastic about the I5 with the limited range, slower acceleration and higher price.
Lol, slower acceleration 😂😂😂😂. Not even close.
does it have a transmission tunnel taking up legroom in the back seats? If so, why not mention this and why does it have it?
It will because it’s a shared platform with ICE versions

The touring looks better, hope they do a decend hybrid petrol in that form to improve the mpg, if the idea is to nolonger support diesel.

Think anyone interested in this vehicle should also test drive the new Audi Q6 E-tron when it's possible to do so before making a final decision.
That's actually a smaller car inside. It's expensive and is just a Q5 really

Looks like tanzanite blue.
Yeah. Thanks! I ordered mine in carbon metallic. So a little blue. The other one is too purple.
Not sure about that rear bumper, looks like they left the gaps for the exhausts
Pan roof is not standard.
You're not going to scroll through those icons when you're driving. You'll set it up whilst parked and that will be it.
