    Hi,
    I’m building a pergola mainly to put my garden furniture underneath for the winter 19ft by 11ft. I’ve got quotes of polycarbonate roofing costing around £500 altogether. So I’ve thought to make a wooden roof with a felt sheet which is much cheaper. Would you recommend this method?

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Frankly, I don't see any issues in using felt roof. Infact garden sheds here all have felt roofs., ie to be precise: OSB3 roof with felt on top, and they last for years.

    Hello, why did you use smaller sheets? I would like to cover a similar area as you but planning to use a 2.1x3 (X2). Are there any disadvantages in doing this?
    If my idea is ok, do I need to screw in the middle of each sheets to add more support without adding rafter support?

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cost wise, I think 600 mm was slightly cheaper. I debated about getting a bigger sheet, but then went for smaller because of the way I did the flashing. With a 2m wide sheet, I assumed it would be difficult to do it in the way I did it. If that's not apblm, then go for the bigger sheet. 2 screws is enough to hold it in place, whether it's 600mm or 2m

    Those "Core Flute" panels will fill up with mound within weeks, and you will have to clean and disinfect them every year.

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True that. I can see it on one of the panels, where moisture got in.

    Thank u very much for sharing this indepth video! I am trying to build a simple patio cover with polycarbonate sheet roofing. I am just not sure which type of polycarbonate sheet wud be ideal as theres few types like clear, grey,multiwall,white etc. May i know what type is yours. I am after the one that gives enough shade when the summer heat is fully on but is not too dark on gloomy days as I will mostly be chilling on it when its nice and hot. Which type wud u recommend. Thank u in advance.

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Subash, mine is 10mm bronze colour twin-walled polycarbonate sheet. I think the details is there in the video description. I think personally the bronze colour is great, but it is yet to see its first summer, haha. and good luck with your build as well. 👍

  • @mihaimol
    @mihaimol 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    How noisy is it? I am a bit worried about noise. Do you think that installing 35mm policarbonate would make it less noisier?

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Considering the sides of my pergola are open, all noises will still come through. If you are looking to cover a conservatory or covered structure, 35mm will definitely give better noise isolation from the outside world as it has 3-4 layers inside.

      @@SujMenon what about from the house? Mine would be on same side as the bedroom so I am a bit worried that I won't be able to sleep when raining.

      Well tbh, it will have the sound when it rains. But it's a pleasant one ☺️. Personally, I don't think it will affect too much

  • @vishalthanki

    Looks great Suj. I'm in the process of getting a similar pergola installed but not sure what colour and thickness of polycarbonate to go for. How did you decide this and what did you go for?

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Vishal, colour is a personal choice. Among the 3 available at the time: transparent, white and bronze tint, I went for the bronze tint as I thought it looks best. But then again its an individual choice.
      For thickness, I spoke to the agent at the glazing shop, and she said for an outside setup like mine, 10mm is more than enough. So that's what I went with. As you probably know, with the increased thickness, the cost of the sheets and other accessories will also go up. And since my pergola is open to the elements, there is no need for thermal efficiency retention etc, which you would get with increased thickness.

    This is a great video Suj. I have a question about how you handle flashing where the polycarbonate panels meet the wall? Thank you very much for you advice. Long

    • @SujMenon
      @SujMenon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Long, it's there in the video itself. Because it's a critical part, I have shown it in 2 separate sections. Is there a specific question on flashing?
