Ducati Streetfighter 1098 Desmo Valve service

  • The DRILL crew and Team MCC (duc_doc) tear down one of the club member's Streetfighter 1098 for the valve clearance check and clutch inspection.
    The elegant Desmodromic valve system, unique to Ducati, is an engineering marvel since there are no valve springs like all traditional engines have. Instead each valve has two cams, one to open and one to close, rather than using a strong spring to close the valve. This means there’s less mechanical resistance in the Desmo system since the cams don’t have to overcome the pressure of valve springs. The only springs you might see in there are the ones that simply keep the rocker arms stable, but you can literally push those with a finger and they don’t have anything to do with closing the valves. This is an older 1098 V-twin, but the Desmo system is one of the reasons the new V4R can rev higher than any production 999cc in history since the engine can spin easier.

    Note: The mufflers were removed to allow rear wheel removal to check and lube the axle - that had nothing to do with the valve service obviously.

    with bare hands they are touching the cams etc... . these metals don't like human grease marks. It's a 25000 dollar bike and the technician did not read that he needs to heat up that part to a surten temperature and struggles in a simple process of maintenance. if it's done that way, then a home mechanic can do it better. but yeah warranty....

    Way too many people around the bike for someone to be working on it.

      @Tyler Braden Everyone in this video was invited to witness the service, all part of the Ducati club which is sponsored by this dealer. Also the bozo is the owner of the dealership, and he knows a lot about bikes. 😁. It’s fun being a smart ass on TH-cam comments tho right? 😜

    Man, you just explained how Desmo oil systems works!
    Ok, I always curious why people always say Start the engines and let it run 2-5 minutes before riding but what’s the mystery behind that!
    Now I know 💯👍

    Is the sf still good as it is back then ?? And are there still parts out there?? After 10-12 years

    • @ilmostro16
      @ilmostro16  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t heard my SF owning friends mention any issues with getting any parts when needed. But I’d look into that before buying just in case if interested.
