    That is a beast of a camera. I also enjoyed the X-T2 a lot while handling it at my local camera shop for a quick hands-on video. I'd say the nicest handling of any Fujifilm I've personally used, though I haven't tried the X-H1 yet. Your work here is inspirational. A nice smooth voice-over and a lot of relevant clips to go along with it, plus all of the relevant details and examples taken out in the field (great panning work). I understand how much time and effort it takes to make that happen.

      Gordon Laing Really impressive, I want an OIS lens for video but debating between the Kit or waiting for the 16-80mm that’s coming out soon.

      I don't know about a 16-80, but I can say the old 18-55mm is still delivering sterling service!

    This complaint about the screen starts to sound rediculous. I have X-T20 and X-T100 and I'm planning to get X-T3. And I CANNOT imagine it would flip out the way the X-T100 does. For photographer the way X-T100 screen rotates is unusable for low-angle portrait-orientation shooting. It simply opens in a wrong way! X-T3 does it perfectly. I know youtubers love to look at their faces all the time but this is a camera for photographers mainly, not for self-arousement. Great reveiw beside that. Thanks! :)

      I own a Canon 60D, which has a fully articulating screen. I do not vlog or even shoot video. I shoot stills but I can't tell you how many times I've used the 180 degree while shooting at awkward angles. For shooting really low to the ground, while this one flips out from the right side and my hand ends up covering half the screen, my Canon flips out on the left and is not blocked by my hand at all. A fully articulating screen isn't just for vloggers. It's just more versatile

      Well said...

    • @diezfrancis
      @diezfrancis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True! I don't think that Fujifilm will ever put IBIS on the X-T3 because that feature is solely for the X-H1. And I don't think that they will put the flip out screen because those are for the X-A5 and X-T100. And I definitely don't think that they put EVF + OVF because it's for the X-pro2 line.
      In short, they're making different camera lines for different customers and also for the sake of their business.
      They can make a camera with all those features I stated above but then, if there's that perfect camera, who will buy the X-T3, X-H1, X-T100, X-A5, and X-pro2 line of cameras?

    • @meme4one
      @meme4one 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have to say something negative, this is a good way to do it and not upset fuji too much.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I don't 'have' to say anything! My job is to report what it can do and what it can't do, then provide my own personal take on it, but to also equip you with the ability to decide if an issue I mention is a deal-breaker or not. I'm not paid or sponsored by any of the manufacturers for these reviews, and they actually prefer me to stay independent. Regarding the screen, I state that it doesn't face forward which is an issue for me personally, but that doesn't mean it's an issue for everyone. Many prefer the existing articulation and that's absolutely fine.

    Nice work, Gordon ! As usual...
    Fujifilm is pushing very hard with this XT3. I own the XT2: when I see all firmware updates that greatly improved the XT2 and how already amazing the XT3 looks... who knows what Fuji has in store to put in the firmware updates :))))
    Canon & Nikon should pay great attention to what Fujifilm is delivering and the support afterward !

    The XT2 and the EM1 Mkii were pretty closely matched. Do the video and autofocus capabilities of the XT3 put it squarely on top or with the current price drop of the Oly (at least at B&H), are they still a close match?

    Very very impressive update by Fujifilm.
    I think i'll wait for the IBIS on the X-H2, though. And yes.. My Fuji's battery life is ridiculously weak.. next to my Sony A7III.
    They really need a NEW battery design.
    I'll wait for your usual 1hour long full review, on this camera.. namely for the video side of it.. as we already know it is going to take great stills and namely great jpegs. ;)
    Cheers from Portugal

    I actually like the back screen design being tilt only.
    The one thing I did notice that I do not like is the bottom tripod mount. Only two screws where most have 4. There were a few too many reports of the tripod mount coming loose on the X-T2 that had a similar design.
    But overall a very nice camera.

    Great review as always Gordon. I was GASing a bit when I first read about the XT-3, but I think I'll keep my beloved XT-2 and hold out hope for the XT-4. I don't shoot a lot of video, which is where I think the XT-3 shines brightest. But maybe the next generation will have more pixels and in camera stabilization, two features I would definitely make the jump for! (oh and wouldn't native 100 ISO be splendid??)

      I own an A7III and it _is_ hands down a great camera. Fantastic portraits on this FF with the FE85mm f1.8 lens and I've got me a Samyang 35mm f2.8 as well, that's a great little lens. I thought the A7III was a great value for the money until X-T3 came with a 500 USD lower price tag... My idea from the beginning was to get another A7III because I'm shooting lots of interviews and live concerts with two cameras, sometimes three. I'm occasionally a street shooter with my FUJI X70 which I bought new a couple of months ago, and I'm not letting that thing out of my hands. The manual controls and ease of use, the menus, image quality, the feel in the hand... Then I borrowed a X-T2 and X-T20 from a friend and I liked everything except for the video. I guess I can live without a full frame if the APS-C is coming from FUJI.
      I can't afford buying separate cameras for stills and video so now all of a sudden, and with this X-T3 coming at me, the whole calculation with getting another A7III plus another two lenses (at least) is a more expensive solution. Maybe the A7III can stay at home anyway so I might upgrade with the X-T3s and jump on the FUJI wagon for the commercial work. I'm a bit concerned about the lack of IBIS but I'm doing some gimbal stuff and I'm sometimes using a motorized slider, so I guess it'd be OK in the end. _And_ now FUJI has this eye-AF as well...if it's as good as Sony's (I can state it really is great) it to be seen in other reviews that are certainly coming.
      Still, I don't know what to advise here, A7III is a beast and if you're shooting raw anyway and you need a FF (it's 24MP..) & IBIS, it's a great choice, go for it.
      If you're fond of fantastic jpegs and FUJI's film simulations and all the creative options that it inspires, no way Sony's jpegs are that nice. You need to shoot raw there.

    Great review as always! I was wondering: How did you find the shutter button? I got to shoot mine for the first time today and found the shutter button to be too soft, even somewhat loose. I prefer the feel of the shutter button on my X-T20, which is a bit harder and offers more resistance, so you know better when you're pressing half way or all the way through.

    An excellent review, Gordon. Thank you. I have to say that the lack of forward-facing flip-screen is a deal-breaker for me, as well as no IBIS. The shot of the brick building you did (tilting upwards) was obviously susceptible to a lot of jitter, so IBIS is non-negotiable, as far as I am concerned.
    Apart from those considerations, it looks and sounds like a fantastic camera.

Also the new processor could maybe have some potential with firmware updates?! But in the end, if you are happy with the xt2, why upgrade. Invest in good lenses instead:) cheers

Complaints are not many and the biggest it seems to be the battery life, which to me is not due to the fact that I use battery grips for better handling! Great review! Such a fancy camera! Thinking of switching system to Fuji after using my Samsung nx1 for some years now. To bad they killed that system. :( However the lack of optical stabilisation makes me a bit sceptical if I should wait for a X-h2 that's rumoured for 2019.. in it more for the video. Fuji seem to have some nice prime lenses but they are missing I.S.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True that! Waiting to see how Sony will respond now with a7s3. I have to switch system either way since Samsung is dead. Fuji seems to be offer more for it's money, and the physical buttons are delicious! 😍 I would get the 56 1.2 lens and the 23 2.0.

    @jasonwiser4711 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the review as usual. I really like that camera but what the heck is up with no in body stabilization? And the flipdcreen? To me, the flip screen isn't as big of a deal as the in body stabilization. Again, what the heck, they had it beat on their last model. In body stabilization is a pretty big deal breaker when it seems the camera companies are always in such competition with each other. And even more confusing is that you pointed out the fact of the availability of stabilized lenses that will work on the body. Oh well. It's still looks to be a great camera body. I really like the way the autofocus stayed right on the race cars as they were making the turn. It looked very clean and crisp. Two thumbs up for the dual card slots and the LVF. The races looked like a good time. Thanks Gordon.

    • @jasonwiser4711
      @jasonwiser4711 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tronam Very good information. I too am primarily a stills shooter. Although, with all of the technical build information that you point out, I still put value on the times when I'm not on a tripod and shooting more of a snapshot type of photo. I came into photography when I was shooting a 35m Yashica film camera and developing black and white in a darkroom.
      I have just recently started shooting digital. With all of the technology that is new to me, I just think at times, why did they leave something something out of a newer model. Also, it seems that all manufacturers do it as well.

    Nice video Gordon. I've been shooting Fuji for a few years now, currently with an X-Pro-2. Was really hopeful this might be an upgrade to consider, but sadly it's not. Video is better but still behind Panasonic and even Sony IMHO. IBIS has become a standard, and its omission here is glaring. But my biggest problem with Fuji is... the battery life. It's just terrible. For a day of shooting I need one in the body and 3 in the bag. The grip helps but pushes the price to $1850 USD plus batteries. Tough to justify when for $150 USD more you can get an a7III with a FF sensor, faster auto-focus (especially eye detect), better low-light performance, IBIS, and MUCH better battery life. I love aperture controls and all the dials, but you're making this tough Fuji.

    • @Chazyfizzlez
      @Chazyfizzlez 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair point but the best Sony glass is insanely expensive. G master class is noticeably larger and extremely expensive whereas the Fujinon top tier glass is much small and much less expensive.

    • @tomscott4438
      @tomscott4438 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point right back at you, and really the only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on the switch. I demo'd an a7III with a 20-70 f/2.8 G. Very expensive lens and slightly front-heavy. There are less bulky and pricey options (Sony/Zeiss, Tamron) but if you want to take full advantage of that full-frame sensor, you need the big-buck glass. Honestly, my Fujinon lenses (16 f/1.4, 23 f/2, 35 f/1.4, 50-140 f/2.8) are the only reason I put up with the quirks and limited feature set of the bodies. For me the clock is ticking. I want fast AF, better battery life, and IBIS. There is nothing on the Fuji horizon including the X-T3 (or what I assume will be a similar marginally upgraded X-Pro-3 next year) that has it.

    • @Chazyfizzlez
      @Chazyfizzlez 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomscott4438 I have to agree with you. I've had the xt2 since launch and accumulated the 16f1.4, 23f1.4, 35f1.4, 56f1.2 and 90f2... All fantastic in their own way. But Fujifilm lags behind Sony in AF by a large margin. I mainly shoot portraits and would love the continuous eye AF of Sony as well as the IBIS, especially for the 90f2. Not to mention the low light capabilities of full frame. I'm struggling with the choice to move to Sony. Remaining stubborn... For now. The price to switch is high given I'm a hobbyist and not a pro.

    • @tomscott4438
      @tomscott4438 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the conversion cost is holding a lot of us back. I'm also a hobbyist. When I factor in the initial investment (in the Fuji system) less my resale value there is a net loss of $2K USD. Reinvesting the "proceeds" from selling off my current gear will still require thousands more to get me into Sony. The net loss for trade in is on paper, but the rest is real money. BTW I don't know how you use the 56 and 90 without IBIS. You must be very steady. Loved both those lenses but went with the 50-140 for the reach and because at least it has OIS.

    • @cameralabs
      @cameralabs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what you want from an upgrade. The XT3 is mostly about better video and better action autofocus than the XT2. There's other smaller benefits, but those are the main reasons for going for the XT3 over the XT2.

    I really wanted to like this camera and had it on pre-order. However, testing it in-store quickly put me off. The exposure compensation dial has become recessed and so stiff it took a lot of effort to turn it. Why? I need my thumb for this, but it's impossible now. I know this is one thing, but when it's something you use it all the time it becomes a deal breaker. No X-T3 for me.

    Owned the X-T2 and am currently fully on m43 (Olympus) because the X-T2 was not quite there what the EM1.2 could offer WRT AF and speed. But now I guess the X-T3 ticks all these boxes (except IBIS but I could get along nicely with the X-T2 without IBIS using IS-lenses) but the color science from Fuji is still what I am missing!
    Might go back to Fuji again and this time fully committed.

    The XT3 backscreen is a brilliant Fujifilm design (low angle portrets/landscapes) and you can still use L brackets, not with rotating forward “see my selfie flippingscreens” wich 95% of the photography community wil never need. You Vloggers need to realize that you r a minority, so stop whining about seemyselfscreens. No offence but mostly all photovloggingtubers r nagging about it. Otherwise a good review with a tiny bit to much about video to my taste.

      I shoot mostly stills myself and find fully articulated, side-hinged screens invaluable for shooting in the portrait orientation at a low angle. The XT2 / XT3 solution makes it a bit easier, but not as easy as it could be, like on an OMD EM1 II, Lumix G9, EOS 6D II, EOS R etc. But this is my only my opinion because it is my channel. Anyone who complains about a personal opinion on someone else's channel should really be focusing their efforts on creating their own content with their own opinions on their own channel. Then I can go onto it and tell you off for whining!
