Hi. Mopar fluids are outrageously priced. Fwiw, i use the following. A company called Mannol offer a very cheap 5w/30 engine oil. It also has official Mercedes approval for MB229.51 so is not rubbish. A Fumoto valve in place of the sump plug makes oil changes easier as an alternative to the vacuum method. I use Petronas PowerGear 4 in my transfer case. It is what UK Jeep dealers use. Any approved ATF+4 is just fine. I happen to use Ravenol. Many use the Mercedes spec stuff without issue. I have open diff's so i just use a synthetic 75/140. Amsoil in my case. Engine coolant, i use the Comma G48.
Thank you! Unfortunately I changed all the fluids last summer, before I created my channel this January. It’s a shame as it would have been great content but they soon come round again though, so I’ll make be making videos on them next time.
So this week i tackled the Speed turbine A&B sensor problem, having went to the main dealer for the health check they had informed that it had a fault in the gearbox and that it would take £2k to fix the issue. So a bit of investigation on my part and downloading the Gearbox manual from the internet i was able to source a a new conductor plate kit (£105) this include a new multi pin connector for the electronics, and a sump seal. Two hours of work in the driveway and then a further £50 for the proper Mopar ATF fluid and then down to the local gearbox specialist who was able to reset the gearbox from safe mode and into relearn (£40) so a total saving of £1,805.00 on the quote from the dealer
Outstanding saving and great update. Out of interest, what were the physical symptoms of the fault? The accessibility on these gearboxes makes them pleasing to work on, once you get past the constant drops of ATF!
@@autoknight747 , the first symptom was when driving the Jeep would occasionally stick in the 1st or 2nd gear, you'd have to stop the vehicle and switch off the ignition for 10 seconds then restart and it would go back to normal, eventually however the gearbox went into limp mode. the sensor is located on the conductor plate so drop the oil in the pan, drop the hydraulic block off , take the solenoid pack out and exchange the plate. also a good opportunity to check the oil pan for any metal or friction material from the clutch plates.
@@autoknight747 we're at 122000, but i'll admit that i don't give the Jeep an easy life and the 4x4 system is well exercised off road. I would regularly be driving from site to site over a few hundred miles and then off roading the last few miles to the actual location.
I use Pentosin HP2 5w40 in my WK CRD and Valvoline in the differentials. I use Mopar Transfer case fluid and just got Mopar ATF+4 for power steering. I am going to return it, after more research, I found I can use the the Pentosin I already have.
As mentioned Mobifluid 424 for the transfercase . The transmission is a Mercedes 722.6 transmission so any fluid compatible with these is OK . The power steering fluid is actually hydraulic oil ( unsure what grade ) which also drives the hydraulic radiator fan .
Great stuff, i use Mobil 424 in the Transfer case. If you can get a copy of the Material Data Safety Sheet for the original equipment Mopar transfer case oil from the dealer you will see that this oil is Mobil 424. It`s written on it. Makes sense really, Mopar aren`t in the oil business. Mobil Agri 424 is wet brake oil for tractor gearboxes. Designed to let the clutches slip a prescribed amount in the transfer case.
very interesting. I am part way through a fluids change on my 07 Overland CRD. I bought the following for the PS, which met the MS 10838 spec. looks like you found and even better value alternative! Febi Hydraulic Oil 06161. I'd be interested to hear your method for the auto-trans fluid/pan filter etc fluid change as, unlike my previous WJ Grand Cherokee, one does not have a dip-stick to check the levels on the WK and, it seems, it should be connected to a computer whilst changing the fluid. Rgds. Richard.
Only just seen this comment, so you may have changed your fluid by now. I just wrote a detailed description of what I used in another comment but essentially I used JScan to measure fluid temp to get the correct level, using a chart and dipstick that I found on eBay. It’s a nice job to do!
@@autoknight747 many thanks, no worries rgarding time delay, was away at sea for a good while anyway :) . I had jeep in Inverness do the ATF,pan filter and seal in the end as I had to take her over for the ignition recall and get the P73 update to fix the (N23) lack of 4low. All good now. So that is all fluids except coolant and PS changed since I bought the car. Where on earth did you find a dipstick though? Rgds. Richard, Isle of Skye
@@zzuave2666 I got the dipstick on eBay. It was something like this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111052331958?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=a5rFmG2JSgm&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=b9o5VfnnRQi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hi, thanks for this I have the exact same year and spec Grand Cherokee as yours. Have you done a transmission fluid change? Can't find much info on how to do it.
I have yes, I changed all the fluids including transmission, before I started my TH-cam channel. It’s actually a nice job due to decent ground clearance on these cars. Ill probably do it again at some point and make a video. I changed the pan seal, filter and multi-pin connector at same time, which often leaks. They don’t have a dipstick but these can be bought in order to check the level, which must be done at certain fluid temperatures, I used JScan and there is a chart which gives correct fluid level at a given transmission temp. Once filled and set, dipstick tube cap can then be resealed with a single use red tab, Febi Bilstein make them.

Hi brilliant video, where do buy the engine oil from, I can not find it any cheaper than £30 for 5ltrs
