Personally I'm fine with the idea of Rainbow Dash being a lesbian, but not the assumption that she must be without actual canon relationships being confirmed for her. I'm very against the idea that aesthetics and design informs the sexuality of characters that a lot of those kinds of arguments tend to involve, that I hear not just for Rainbow Dash, but all over the place, for a wide variety of characters.

i LOVE this video!! i often struggle with interacting with media, i weigh the "worth" of my interpretations against what's actually written on the page, which makes fandom less enjoyable to me as a whole. it's why i fell out of reading warrior cats. that kind of stuff bleeds into how i interact with the world as a whole, everything had to be black and white, but there's so much more nuance than that, and the nuance is so much fun to explore! at the end of the day i'm not the author, and the author can't go back and edit whats already out there so by having endless discussions, theories, and headcanons it makes it so i can make the media enjoyable forever!! its a rough habit to break but so worth it, it makes you see the entire world under a new, beautiful light

The point of 'death of the author' is that you the viewer are welcome to interpret the art made by the artist however you like. If the author disagrees with you on what their story is about as they were trying to write it to convey a specific message, then either the author didn't do a good job of conveying that or you the viewer were not paying close enough attention. So art has value beyond what the creator intended, but ultimately only the creator can say for certain what is true in story and you as a fan should draw the line for yourself at how much of the author's story you want to take in and at what point you're satisfied.

About the whole rainbow dash and her hair causing her to do the sonic rainboom, i dont think that thats the case at all. Since her dad has a rainbow colored mane, and we have never seen him do the sonic rainboom, i think its all because of her practice.

i totally agree with you on your take on canon-ness. it either is or it isnt! either the writers put something explicitly there with intent, or they didnt. really fun video! i like a good smorgasbord of theories

In defense of edgy fan theory’s I personally think the main reason behind a lot of them is the age demographic watching, sure we all know mlp was intended for little girls and ended up attracting a large adult male audience but there is still something in between that: edgy teenagers who view making their favorite show dark and scary as fun There’s also the reasoning of people who watched the show as kids wanting it to grow up with them or even people using those types of theory’s to cope with their own problems (for example with the “pinkie and her sisters were abused” theory I could easily see someone using it to relate to a character while in an terrible situation of their own) It isn’t all theory’s obviously but I think sometimes they could be ok for those reasons

I'll tell you the story of when my parents found out I like mlp. Since I am legally blind, I can download pretty much any book for free on bookshare, which my account is with my mom's email, so she gets an email for the books I download. I decided to get some mlp books off bookshare, and my mom saw that. One day when my whole family gathered together, my mom asked me if I had been reading mlp. I admitted that I watch mlp. The best part is, it was only my mom who was a little weirded out, not my dad or any of my siblings. My dad knew about bronys, and had seen some episodes, because my younger sister watches mlp, so he knew how good it actually is. All my other siblings have watched mlp as well (just never revealed to my parents). My older sisters played with mlp toys, and I think they watched some generation before g4, but since my younger sister had been watching g4, they also watched it. My brother actually watched mlp years ago, and I think it came up once in my house, but what really got me to know for sure, was when my band teacher (who was the same one for my brother) mentioned that my brother watched mlp (that was actually part of how I got into mlp). My other sister, who is also older than me, she watched fim a couple years ago, so she knows everything about it. And then my second younger sister (I have a lot of sisters) has watched mlp with my youngest sister, although I think she doesn't like it (she doesn't like bluey, so her opinions are terrible), and then my youngest sister is who brought mlp on our tv for the first time since the time when my two oldest sisters watched it. Basically, the only one in my family that hasn't seen g4 (is my mom she watched g1), and so she doesn't know how awesome it is. Also, just to be clear, I'm pretty sure my parents didn't know all my siblings also watched mlp, since I only found out way later (I'm the last one in my family to watch mlp).

Ik you're not here to prove or disprove anything, but I'm just wondering if you noticed the way Pinkie leaned on and looked up at Cheese Sandwich on a giant Gummie, and Little Cheese sharing WAY more genetic similarities with both Pinkie and Cheese than Lusterdawn shares with Starlight and Sunburst. The same amount Fluttershy & her brother share with their parents as well as Applejack & Apple Bloom with their's, and Scootaloo with her's.

I do think appledash is canon, but I just prefer other AJ ships! Doesn't mean I'm going to pretend it doesn't exist though I'll just make my own au's with rarijack Xd I do think a wide majority of the people in disbelief regarding appledash are prejudice, not to say every skeptic is, but a wide majority are, having unfortunately interacted with those people before
