    Good to see mid-range Ryzen Phoenix laptops finally hitting the market -and with great value as well.
    Very good in-depth review.
    If I could make a suggestion: I'm interested in seeing the performance of this CPU benchmarked, and I imagine many people would as well, especially since there aren't any benchmarks of 7840HS in a laptop.

  • @mereobserver1727
    @mereobserver1727 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Excellent review! Appreciate the look under the hood, noise levels, thermals and that underrated 300 nit display. Brightness uniformity looks even better than on 500 nit panel - though due to sample variance, YMMV.
    I’ve seen a few reviews for the 5i variant, but your is THE first for AMD, beating even titans such as Jarrod’s Tech and Notebookcheck. Speaking of the latter, I’ve sent them a link to your video, and hope they’ll post in on the product page. They’ve covered the exact same SKU in one of their articles - but are yet to link any reviews (and/or publish their own).
    If I may ask, have you seen any options to undervolt dGPU via either Vantage or BIOS? If not, it would be interesting to see how this laptop performs using iGPU alone - e.g. battery life, thermals and acoustics using only Radeon 780M. Because if anything, this is one area where Slim 5 should beat the latest Pro models (as their integrated graphics are far slower / less useful on their own).

    • @TechGuyBeau
      @TechGuyBeau  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven’t done any undervolting, but as you say the 780m is exceptionally capable as a daily driver iGPU for even moderate gaming tasks.
      The battery life is quite good in mixed mode (hybrid), if you through it into iGPU mode it goes up further.
      I found the same tend with the Lenovo LOQ I reviewed a few weeks ago (7640HS with the 760m). Heck I even did gaming in the mere 760m and was shocked at the results. The 780m simply does even better than the 760m
      And yes the pro models only have 710m, which are much inferior. Still good enough for daily tasks but not for more intensive tasks

    The 780m can handle practically everything on its own except for heavy workloads or gaming.
    Therefor I only use the igp 90% of the time.
    The 610m however in the 7745hx needs help quite often. The 7745hx doesn't have any advantage in mobile mode, only when plugged in, can it provide more performance. In every other scenario where you need less power, the slim seems to be the better choice.
