Beg to differ with the description, brother. That ain't no 'rough backstage version'. You could release that right now, as is! Seriously, best I ever heard, and not trying to commit sacrilege here, but I have heard Norman and Tony. You got a resonance and a reality to your tone, a real force and hard edge to it that's pleasing to the ear. It's genuine, without trying to be. Dang.
In essence I agree with your point. However, to play at his level I believe you need to be a perfectionist, which means you notice every little thing that isn't exactly the way you wanted it to sound. Anything less than that is "rough." I've done enough singing to recognize the little glint of annoyance in the eye when a vocal comes out just a little scratchier than you intended because you didn't get two hours to warm up beforehand. Happens to me all the time.
Brother... Your playing is so sick... and your singing is so good. One wouldn't expect that to be possible. Tony Rice is really hard to follow with his timing being so strange. You killed it
Wow, what an incredible performance! Your rendition of this beautiful piece is absolutely stunning. The way you made that old guitar sing truly did justice to Tony's masterful style. I was genuinely moved by your playing and singing; it brought out all the emotions that make this song so special. It's clear you have a deep respect and understanding of Tony's music, and your interpretation honors his legacy beautifully. I'm sure Tony is somewhere watching this and cracking that same subtle smile he does in that classic video from "An Intimate Lesson With Tony Rice." Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
I can only imagine the amount of practice it takes to consistently perform in near perfection. I have seen Trey in person a few times and just sit there in awe of the gift this man has. Thanks for sharing your gift with us Trey!
Awesome job. You have a very distinct bluegrass tone in your voice that's perfect for this song. This is one of my favorite Tony Rice songs. He would be very happy to hear you singing and playing.
There are are so many who have covered this song, but i think this is the best...Its so clean, the tone is great and the singing is so smooth and tasteful.
Wow! This is incredible! your playing never ceases to amaze me. Every song I hear you perform on TH-cam teds to be my favorite version, I could listen to you play all day. I’d love to hear you do a cover of Randall Collins by Norman Blake!
Awesome as usual. Glad to hear you're having a blast with the shows. I always say if it ain't fun, I'm done. I've made some lifelong friendships because of music with people I would have never met if not for the music. To me, that's the most precious part of music. Thanks for sharing.
If Tony Rice Looked Down From Heaven I'm Shure He Would Smile Listening To This Talented Young Man Play This... Amazing Talent Trey Ty Love This!!... Hoping Some Day I Can See You And Billy Strings Perform Together And Give Us A Flatpicking Historical Performance!!!
I have listened to many covers of this great Norman Blake song, and this one is right up there with the best, including the benchmark performance of Tony Rice’s. I love the new touches you add.
I've played guitar for a while, pro and not. I love your version. Is stays close to the Rice version, which is subdued but beautiful. Church Street is quickly becoming a staple in Bluegrass like Whiskey before Breakfast, etc. Thanks for the rendition!
Great sound you are the best of the best. You should do an instructional video on how to play this tune. I'd love to see it. Stay well & safe my friend.
the timbre of your voice is what seals this.
Man, I love this song. Thanks, Trey.

There are few who could cover a song Tony Rice recorded and do it justice.
Justice has been served!

Your Mama can be proud of your talent and your sense of a guitar sound is special

Great singing! So often, the vocal is an afterthought behind the guitar. It’s great to hear them so nicely balanced.
Awesome job. You have a very distinct bluegrass tone in your voice that's perfect for this song. This is one of my favorite Tony Rice songs. He would be very happy to hear you singing and playing.

A lot of Blake's in Australia. Both Australia and Georgia ( where our section of Blake's are from) where penal colonies especially for the Irish.
Wow man. Been going down the rabbit hole on your TH-cam channel. Incredible I'm subbed.
