I just saw Trey and Rob Ickes Saturday night in Baton Rouge! They absolutely blew me and everyone in the audience away! What incredibly talented artists!
I was watching a video (ArtistWorks) with Sierra Hull, Bela Fleck, and Tony Trishka. When Sierra praised Trey, it was the first time I had heard of Trey. Listening a lot to him and Rob Ickes now.
I like Tony Rice on Free Born Man...but Trey you got it going on. Love your style. Awesome Brother. I Subbed your channel hope it helps you out. God bless your music.
Trey Hensley, Just so you know, you were being spoken about today at Rudy’s Music Shop Scarsdale New York and there was not word spoken that you would not have been proud of! Enjoy!!
A lot of people give him crap because he plays a Taylor, but I've played just about every brand of guitar at one time or another, Martins, Gibson's, Collings, Bourgeois, Huss & Dalton, Froggy Bottom, Breedlove, Furch, Alvarez Yairi, and I still prefer my Taylor for ease of play.....they have the best necks out there. When they are set up right they play like butter. I've never played a Santa Cruz, Tony Rice liked them after he retired Clarence White's Martin. I'm sure there are some one off customs that are comfortable and easy to play, but you're talking big money.... I'm talking production guitars.
He doesn't use his pinky which seems to be par for the course in this bluegrass genre. In metal, we're playing a lot of stuff that have stretches further that require us to use it... Plus, IMO, it's just better practice to have a fourth finger and use it rather than have it sitting there doing nothing. Imagine how much more he could do if he did? I've also noticed that they incorporate a lot of open notes in their "shredding". I didn't see any sweeping arpeggios in there or any of the like. He's a good player, no doubt, I'm not taking anything away from him. I think you'll find that in metal, especially progressive metal which is so much more common these days, shredding is pretty standard. This was fun to watch! ps. dude loves that opening riff that John Petrucci uses in Paradigm Shift, lol.
I don’t see why anyone would look to the radio or big music stations to tell em what too listen too ?? but this guy is exactly right. Cookie cutter d baggetry of the highest order all pushed by big money Nashville promotors. So sickening. It’s like even the really good players and artist have to pander to em. I guess the good thing is more folks are opening their eyes and seeing the best Nashville players and bands period are in the bars 90% of the time. Guthrie Trapp , Trey Hensley , Andy Wood , Johnny Highland , Jack Pearson , Jd Simo , and many more that I’ve failed to mention.
That is awesome! Hope to catch you one of these days eventually. Just when I thought I was getting blackberry blossom down pretty quick I stumble on this haha
This reminds of the playfulness exemplified by Seldom Scene in some of their live stuff. Stairway to Norwegian Wood to Angelina Baker. I didn't hear any "All Along The Watchtower" or any Bach partitas, but they could be just around the next bend... in the strings. Mind fully blown. Take care of yourself, Trey, and don't wreck any connective tissue in those wrists. We want you playing for many decades.
Man, this guy picks fast! Have you seen the basement video of Billy Strings playing this song before he got famous? That video led me to Marcel’s video that led me here.
Yes sir. The lights are shining directly on his hands....wait, maybe that's why he's so good?!....he can see the notes better because he's hands of "lighting!" You're a fuckin genius, bro. Wanna start a cult?
Ha! Angeline the Baker @5:20. It must be weird to be right on the cutting edge of what's possible on a a musical instrument at a given time in history. Thanks for bearing that weight Trey!
Trey and junior brown do this the best they should do it together ❤️ 💪 trade off versus then do the last verse together in harmony ❤️ 🙌 👌 🎶 👏 😉 ❤️ 🙌 👌 🎶 👏 😉 ❤️ 🙌 👌 🎶 👏 😉 ❤️ 🙌 👌 🎶
Old i sure know, Tony Rice, Tommy Emmanuel, Doc Watson just to name a few.. Im digging the new blue grass generation i'd be glad to hear some of your suggestions
@@ItsRenzio At this level, it comes down to personal preference. Molly Tuttle is incredible, as is Bryan Sutton, Chris Eldridge, Josh Williams and a host of others.
Very welcome. You are an inspiration man. Your playing is so outstanding that I fear some overlook your voice! I could pick that unique voice out in a crowd for sure. After watching this I started searching for all your stuff. I have shared your vids with lots of folks. My hope is to see you and Dan Tyminski live as soon as either of you are in the Western, NC area. Keep playing wonderful music and God bless you brother.
Wang Chung I don’t know this for sure, but I’m guessing that guitar is completely handmade and customized for Trey. I’d bet the only thing resembling even a high end production Taylor is the headstock. They’re probably throwing money at him to try and break into the bluegrass market. It’s kind of like pro golfers who play lots of different “brands” of irons that are all made in the same tiny factory in Japan and have nothing to do with what we’d buy at Dick’s or Sports Authority.
@Peter Flynn No, actually, you can find the video about that guitar. He needed a guitar for a show and borrowed that Taylor and loved it. I have owned 4 Taylors(liked them all) and currently own several different brands with the Martin dreadnaught being my personal favorite of all guitars I've played. But I like to give credit where it's due to any quality product or company whether it be guitars, cars etc.. That's why I originally responded.
@@ifolkinrock Bob Taylor has stated many times that they do not give guitars to any artist. They have to pay for them. Bob Taylor has joked that even he has to buy his own guitars.
Hensley, Workman, Strings, Tuttle....would love to see all 4 on one stage!
Would bring a tear to my eye 😢
No one better : pickin’ singing, writing, all around good young man! Rockin’ it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This never gets old. Trey you are incredible
Shitttt, Billy Strings whoooo? Hahaha you rock man, well done! 🤘
Ridiculous amount of talent Trey has 🤯

Just blows my mind to see you play.....come on guys you have got to come on back here to Tampa.....!
Among the things I like about this man’s playing is the physical strength he brings to it. Excellent articulation and just great to listen to.
Blue Grass......where the culture of SHRED is not only embraced but required !!!
This has been out for 5 years and I'm just seeing this now😒👀. Trey is the finest picker in the world. Absolutely

This deserves more views, I've easily put 1k on this video myself alone. This man shreds

That is too cool! Thank you!
Mr. Hensley!! You are great! Would love to see you at a show soon!
It’s pretty cool seeing a flat flicker playing a Taylor guitar
Fantastic . Really enjoyed seeing these guys play last Saturday in Baltimore.
My favorite new dynamic duo 🤘 Since I discovered Trey and Ricky they are on my shop and showroom play list daily.

I’m all in on Jimmy Martin covers! Well done sir
Sick. New fan.
Aaaaaand here’s to me devoting the next few weeks of my life master this song. Absolutely insane sir.
I sear, I've only ever seen guitar shredding like this in extreme sub-genres of metal. Mind-blowing to see and hear this!
Tommy Emmanuel

Billy Strings! Yet, unfortunately more isn't necessarily better! Hope taylor gave Trey the guitar!
This is what happens when you sell your soul. How is this even possible?! INCREDIBLE. 🤯
No clue 😣
Pure Awesomeness ::))
Yet Luke Brian is what people are listening too. What’s wrong with people. Hot damn this man can play
This is the first thing I've ever seen of this guy. Won't be the last though. Good grief!
Whats wrong is you have a few fat cats in Nashville controlling what's heard.

One would think I should know how to play this tune... I guess I've got my work cut out for me. Fabulous version.

@@da324 never heard of Michael Angelo batio
Ever hear of that guy from Australia named Tommy E ?
da324 I agree. He sucks. I’ve heard he sucks at regular gymnastics too.
reuben pell we are doing a few festivals together this summer/fall...some jamming will probably occur.
@@TreyAHensley how old are you man and do you play any other instruments

You just got a new subscriber!
Would make Mr. Rice proud!
Tony plays with soul, this guy, not so much.

Get yourself a Martin Mr. Trey. Your playing is out of this world though.
