And Thank You, Sierra Hull. I had the pleasure of seeing you perform in Knoxville with Tommy Emmanuel. You may recall that night Tommy announced mid program he was just informed it would be last night of the tour as it all future ones were canceled due to Covid.
I'm amazed as others are Sierra Hull's talent beyond the strings. I hope to see you live, but I will always remember her quest for perfections on You Tube videos. Extraordinary people with your talent are far and few! Thank you 😊
I listen to a lot of good music. However Ms. Hull if beyond excellent. She is elegant, tasteful and disciplined. No guitar pyrotechnics needed. Just Beautiful, thoughtful music.
As a couple of others have noted, Norman Blake wrote this great song and included it on his Whiskey Before Breakfast LP, an album that I took a chance on when I bought it new in 1976. And I have been happily following Norman and Nancy Blake ever since. I saw the Blakes play a bluegrass festival in Delaware in the late 1990's and after their set I stopped by where their RV was parked to pay my respects. While there an elderly couple asked for a photo and Norman and Nancy very graciously and patiently stood with the husband and smiled while his wife tried for the longest time trying to figure out the camera. By the way, this is a wonderful rendition by Sierra. And I love Tony's version too!
Wonderful. Norman Blake may have wrote it but Tony Rice stole my heart with it at Ella Guru's in Knoxville in 1987. He had His brother Wyatt, Roy Huskey Jr, Vassar Clements and Jerry Douglas with him shortly after releasing his Church St. Blues album. I sold my electric guitar, got an acoustic and haven't looked back sense. Tony was my #1 musical instrument influence. He will truly be missed. I'm watching this on my 49th birthday. Next to the Mars Landing footage, you have provided me with another highlight to my day. Thankyou and GO BIG ORANGE
Jesus I have tears running down my face listening to this for the first time. Absolutely beautiful. Incredible talent. Thank you so much for sharing this Sierra. You are amazing.
Sierra's recent excellent tribute to Tony Rice is made more sincere as she's posted this excellent rendition of Church Street Blues in Tony's honor and with her excellent skill. Thank you for keeping Tony in our hearts.
TH-cam played this when I wasn't paying attention and started to get emotional and didn't even know who it was for a few seconds. She makes this song her own. I can't tell if the singing is better (suits the song perfectly) or her trademark tone and clarity (maybe the first time I've ever really heard all the notes.) I'd love to hear this on an album.
I'm completely captivated by your immense yet gentle talent on the strings. You're beautiful inside and out. God has given you a mission to sow goodness and light everywhere you go.
So great, Sierra. I got the bug to learn this tune when I saw Tony’s instructional video. Now I can pick a couple things up from you. And that’s how it’s passed down. And that’s how it’s done. Nice job on a classic.
Thank you Sierra Hull! A wonderful tune, wonderfully played, with wonderful vocals and a smile for the cherry on top. What a delicious treat! Great work on the video editing too. :-)
Thank you, Sierra! Thanks for keeping songs like this alive. I’ve been listening to 5 different versions from 5 different artists and hers might be the best. She’s an American treasure.
The most difficult version to play is by far Tony’s. I know people who have tried to learn his version and gave up. There’s so much to unpack in TR version; the phrasing, cross picking, chord runs it’s no joke.
I was so fortunate to have, Sierra play on my Moonshiner Album 10 years ago already. Sierra is a wonderful human & to witness what she does so seemingly effortless is indeed a gift to us all! Love & Light To You All out there in TH-cam Land and Beyond! 😉 🍀 💜 🎶 👻 🐾 🤗 🐶 🎸 🎊 🎉 💞
Great cover. Sierra is just amazing. Tony would be proud (even though is not his song). She carries the mantle and has all the respect of Sammy Bush (a good ole friend) and all top tier Bluegrass performers. Wonderful!!
wow Just an incredible musician at a very high level.. Her technique and dynamics here are stellar with unreal execution of hammer on's, pull offs and cross picking....Great singing and flat picking with great dry tone on that Hayes.
Watching this today after hearing about Tony Rice’s passing, simply an amazing song and Sierra’s voice and fingerpicking is so beautiful it makes me cry. Rest peacefully Tony Rice, you will be deeply missed 😭😭😭
This is a very very good version of this song !!!! Very good guitarist & Good singer Sierra!! Got very nice separation in the tunes you really hear every note Clear!! Good guitar to is it a Hayes guitar??
Crazy shit it seems so effortless to you and thanks for your voice ! Definitely the best version of this song after tony rice’s one haha ! Blessings from France love you !
When this came out I didn't appreciate the little differences that have been added here. I've been polishing up the tune in my own playing, so I've been looking at it critically again, and there's some nice, subtle additions to the guitar part that I'll have to steal lol.
I've been listening to alot of Tony Rice the last couple months. This is one of my favorite Tony Rices songs. I'm currently trying to learn play it on the guitar myself. I loved your version of it. Did you learn it from one of Tony's Homespun videos?
@@vishalmohan3080 I agree Sierra's arrangement sounds like how TR picks it, but I can't agree TR made it famous. (Which is probably just my bias, because I am huge Norman fan.)
And Tony Rice smiles down from heaven ❤️
wanted to say the same thing

Yes, he would approve. Thumbs up to Sierra.
@@69dlx84amen, guaranteed he'd love this
this song, in the right hands, never gets old. it just continues on its timeless journey down some dusty old road in your mind.
Norman Blake would approve! Superb!!
I’ve learned during Covid time that Sierra is a world class guitarist as well as mandolinist.
And devoted to tradition!
And all the people said: Ya don’t f*cks with tradition
Do NOT mention covid a liberal disease of election stealing. It was a minor outbreak by demokrauts that made it a pandemic
And Thank you Norman Blake.

she's my favorite for a long time now. Also her presentation skills are second to none.
We do it up righteous in Tennessee when it comes to making the strings smoke and the fingers bleed. We sing and play for our ancestors.

Thanks Rounder! Thanks Sierra... 💖💖💖
uh oh look out she's got it. Tony would love this! Great picking while singing, got to be tough. BRAVO!!
I’m gonna learn that song if it takes me the rest of my life. You’re so good girl! Love you so much.
Absolutely. There's some great tutorials on youtube. Step by step I am working on it, few months project I think!
Little bit each day
Oh, you are charming Mr.Robinson 🍀 So I keep my fingers crossed.🍀 All the best from the Czech Republic.
Finally, someone that can smile while playing and singing it. ❤

Good lord. What a perfect performance. Clarity is the word... and that, even for a talent like hers, takes WORK.
Thank you Sierra Hull! A wonderful tune, wonderfully played, with wonderful vocals and a smile for the cherry on top. What a delicious treat! Great work on the video editing too. :-)
Outstanding...... What a talented beautiful young lady !!!!
Well, I’m sure Tony is proud.
Or Norman Blake since he wrote and first recorded the song...

I hope Norman has heard this. I’m sure both he and Tony Rice would be proud. A few original licks make this her own.

Simply awesome Sierra! Also, thanks again for playing in our little neck of the woods in Mt. Vernon, WA. We loved having you!!
In a word: authentic. Another one: masterful. Wow. Just wow.
Now that's one big guitar ... and a beautiful tribute to Tony Rice. RIP.
No - tiny girl, but enormous talent. I think maybe Justin has encouraged her to play the guitar more, since she has very few equals on the mandolin.
Omg, thats amazing, thank you. as natural as Tony Rice. swhat we r looking, enjoy!
What a gorgeous voice, She bring joy to so many.
Love the sound of that Hayes box. Great job Sierra- thanks!!!
well done sierra. a fitting eulogy to Tony Rice.
Great cover and like Ed Helms said, it’s not fair she’s this good at both guitar and mandolin and singing. Sierra is a great musician
A beautiful, talented young lady right there!
The most beautiful thing I've ever heard in my 56 years on this earth.....
So you're still a youngster!
I was just glued to the screen

Love here treatment of the genre . True talent ...I wish her all the best
I was trying to remember the 1st time I heard Church Street Blues. Thank you Sierra for telling me. Thanks again Tony Rice.
Thanks again for writing Church Street Blues, Norman Blake.
Norman Blake
Wow...Talk about nailing a song...:) Excellent...
This young lady knows the guitar neck as good she does the mandolin, beautiful picking on a great Tony Rice number. Excellent job Ms Hull.
Really lovely delivery. Thanks for doing it.

Beautiful, as usual.
So much here to love!
Effortlessly perfect!
Love your picking, Sierra. Clearly modelled on Tony's version, but you made it your own. Beautifully done.
Well...that was awesome.
I'm Always working on this song. I love the way you play this - it's beautiful. I can't decide if the live version is better than the album.

If Taylor swift is a millionaire this girl should be a billionaire. Prettier and more skilled than any other other women musicians I know of.
Beautiful voice
I love it!

Makes me want to use my guitar for kindling... hahaha... beyond excellent ... musicians get better with age.. imagine 5 10 15 years

Well, it's a Norman Blake song. Check out his Whiskey Before Breakfast album from 1976.
@@keithhunter3910 yeah blake wrote it but this arrangement is closer to tonys and tony has made it famous.
