This is one of my favorite Dizzy Gillespie tunes. I was fortunate to attend a free concert at the Plaza of the Winter Garden in lower Manhattan. NYC. The concert, which my late grandmother and I attended, featured Dizzy and South African singer, the late, Miriam Makeeba. It was a show I will remember for ever. When Dizzy played a. Night in Tunisia I was in heaven. That among other things were crossed off my bucket list.
I've always loved A Night in Tunisia, and I saw Dizzy live in 1972 at Radio City Music Hall during the Newport Jazz Festival. He was a member of the All-Stars that year with Benny Green, Stan Getz, Milt Jackson, Mary Lou Williams, Kenny Burrell, Percy Heath, Max Roach, and Big Black. John Blair joined the group for Bags Groove. I consider it the most incredible concert I've ever been to and a show I'll remember for the rest of my life. Reply
Dizzy Gillespie: a founding father of the ‘bebop’ revolution By Emily Bonnell "In addition to creating bebop, Gillespie is considered one of the first musicians to infuse Afro-Cuban, Caribbean and Brazilian rhythms with jazz. His work in the Latin jazz genre includes Manteca, A Night in Tunisia and Guachi Guaro, among others." jazz.fm
A story he often gave is that at a break there were some dancers that were messing around. His trumpet was on a stand on stage and one of them fell on top of it, which bent it perfectly out of shape like this. He played it and liked the sound so he had his future horns "bent" in the same way.
@@waterbe3564 pretty much but they're kind of hard to find one with out shelling out some serious money. I've seen some on ebay and they are over $800. You could always get a good horn and take it to a good music shop to do the work because it is a custom job and it isn't easy because the best way to do it is most likely to unsolder the bell from the horn itself and bend it up 45 degrees without creasing the metal. I just got my Vega trumpet done that way. Theres lots of ways to get one.

Capolavoro assoluto. Bellissimo indimenticabile uno dei ricordi più belli della mia vita. Grazie Dizzy
A very inspired interpretation by Dizzy Gillespie!
MrAam1964 inspired? I thought he was one of the main writers of the song
Being the writer of the song does not mean he cannot be particularly inspired on this occasion in his own interpretation particularly.
MrAam1964 Oh. I see; you mean the playing style is inspired. That makes a lot more sense :)
I am glad you finally got it!
Danke für diese wunderbare Aufnahme.

Why's his trumpet tilted up like that?

@@MrJellyton is that why there are some trumpets that are made like that?
