I felt just like that.. I know Ron Carter is some kind of monument in jazz, but those 5 minutes of buzzing,
searching-for-the-right-pitch notes were a lil hard to stand

I somehow think it just went over your head. He was playing little bits of vocab like a story about the old days, full of references, a homage to the sounds of the time of Dizzy and Miles. For reference, this was recorded a year after Dizzy died and 3 years after Miles died. But it's of course your right to dislike it.
