Dizzy Gillespie was a true giant of jazz. His trumpet playing was so incredible to the musical ear. I saw him perform live along with the Clark College Jazz Orchestra back in 1985. It was such a great show. I really enjoyed myself that evening.
My teacher Mike Longo is about 24 years old on this. He told me it was a universe of rhythm that he stepped into, and I have studied / played with and admired this recording for over 25 years. Enjoy.!
Heard this the first time probably about 25 years ago. Instantly became my total favorite piece of music. I could listen to this like 10 times in a row. In fact, I have done exactly that a few times. This is soooooo good.
Having grown up playing every Dizzy album I could find, I'd never heard this, at least if memory serves me correctly. Awesome jam. ChoofTop approves! :~)
The man who along with Charlie Parker was one of the first faces of bebop. Gillespie would then go one to unearth talents like John Coltrane and Lee Morgan. He maintained his skills set and helped others who were younger display theirs. He was a bridge between those of us in the African Diaspora on the shores of what is now the US and those of us in Cuba. So ahead of his time in so many ways.
Got 2 find this LP ... LP!!! Had it once/stooooopidly sold off most of my vinyl turn of century, took up overseas posting, went digital & regretted it. This track’s a gem ... a study into what Fusion coulda been. Also looking 4 “One Night in Washington”.

First heard this 60 years ago. As staggering as ever.
Such a fun album.
This music is Spiritual. No other way to describe it. It touches me every time I hear it.
Dizzy Gillespie is in a class of his own

One of the baddest things Dizzy ever did. Tragically overlooked, masterpiece of a record. Moody and Longo play out of their minds.
I was able to afford one drum lesson with Candy Finch in the 70's. I still remember...
Some of the realest jazz ever Dizzy and James Moody

A jazz classic from an old jazz master from my collection of albums,
