Hi my turtle is a res . He eats normally but fails to gain weight . I feed it mazuri and reptomin turtle food. I also give him treats once a week I have a 30 gallon tank a basking area ,filter, heater, uvb lamp and a heat lamp . I also let him out in the sun once a week . He is 2.5 inches In shell length. I know that it has growth stunting problem. Please tell me that what can i do . I'm really worried :(
Don't feel bad about your paint not wanting veggies. My turtle lived 13yrs without a single veggie either. He passed a long time ago during a heater failure when he was outside. They get plenty of nutrients fron pellet variety 👍
wow, what a beautiful turtle you have in the beginning. Thank you for all the tip videos you've made, it's made my journey as a new turtle owner a lot easier and better informed. Thank you for sharing your passion with the world, it's helping make the world a better place! Keep up the great work!
I am actually getting a turtle in a week or two and we are getting a musk turtle and we are just getting our tank ready for the hatchling and I am so excited I have been wanting a turtle for a while
I have two red eared sliders, I got them from a reptile breeder but they where stuck in a small little tank with 15 other turtles and I’m so glad I was able to save them from there, thanks to you for Christmas I told my parents I wanted a new tank, a tank heater and everything else turtles need and they said yes! thank you so so sooo much!
I love the idea of eating in a separate container I wish I'd have thought of that sooner, thank you. I have a Mississippi map turtle and she was gifted to me so I'm not sure her age but how would I know if she's a juvenile or an adult and if I had to guess I would say she's probably about a year-and-a-half-old. Also I didn't know not to feed her daily so I've been doing so but I haven't beating her about the right amount so is it too late to cut back to every other day or every two days
You are so awesome! Haha. Just got recommended to this video on your channel after watching Coyote Peterson catch a rare Blanding’s turtle on Brave Wilderness. Pretty cool that you’re next in an auto play, right?! Keep up the amazing stuff you do!!
oh wow I give my turtle a lot more shrimp. my turtle goes crazy and makes a bunch of noise and begs 24/7 if I don’t feed her, so instead I give her small portions throughout the day.
Veronica Tom yeah, but by small portions I mean morning and night. I can’t do every other day because she will make too much noise and beg, so instead of giving all her food at once I split it into small sections so she can still have breakfast and dinner. she still gets fed the same amount it’s just not all at the same time. and every other day I give her a little bit of romaine lettuce
Hi Sol heres a tip I learned from a another turtle keeper. First You Will Need A ziplock Bag then Fill It up With Food And then Compare It to the turtles Head size If it's The same size of The turtles Head then give It to them If it not then Decrease The food.
Mi dad got mi two turtles and he started to watch you he learnd alot but alot! ,he always sais me to watch you cuz your the best turtle keeper and now here i em 😊 God bless you , you made our turtles have a great time and life with out you thei were gonna be dead pretty mutch, so i hope you have a good day😊😊
I have two baby RES's. The younger one loves her veggies, she would bite at the sight of greens-- as if I'd take it away from her 😂😂 Meanwhile the other one loves his pellets and would actually fight for it. Feeding time means war apparently 🤣
boy i was stressing at first, you feed hoku sooo much more than i feed my cosworth but i hand feed him every day and i think the total amount for the week would be just a little less than hoku's
How long before the turtles got adjusted to the process? I have babies and I'm trying to get them used to it but they seem to freak out instead of eat. How long do you let them have to eat?
Hi! I’m not sure if my turtle has shell rot or a fungal infection. It’s shell is light brown with green spots. Am I doing something wrong? He eats fine and swims well. I hope he will be fine.
my turtles shell looks exactly like his mine doesnt have red lines on his neck but mine is weeks maybe 1 month cause he is not big at all just found him on the road back legs wasn't working and dindt see the mom or the other babies anywhere in sight
Hi, I have a three striped mud turtle, we have had him for a couple months and he eats great in a separate tank wonderfully, but he is refusing to eat anything but his pellet, I tried feeding him lettuce and even bought some small live worms, but the only thing he is eating is his pellets, shrimp, and freeze dried bloodworms, I’m worried that although I only give him treats like shrimp and bloodworms every once and a while, I’m worried he is taking in too much protein.Any tips to help turtles eat other foods?
Bean (my turtle) is eating wonderfully now, he still refuses to eat lettuce, but now he is eating worms and other things. I think that I just needed to give him some time to adjust to new foods, anyway, thank you all for the help
Hey, I know this is an old vid but I need help. I've recently decided to switch over to out-of-tank feeding after realizing how dirty it makes the tank. So I followed the steps of your first video and let him calm down and slowly put food in. I'll put two pieces of shrimp and 2 pellets. What he'll do is look at the food for a while then eat the shrimp and like one of the pellets and sometimes he won't eat the pellets at all so he's not getting the nutrients that he needs. Then after like 10 mins, he won't eat anything anymore and he'll just look at me. I just assume he's done and put him back in the tank but the second he gets back in he's clawing at the glass which is what he does when he's hungry. He goes to the spot where I used to feed him in the tank. What should I do? Should I keep trying or just feed him in the tank?
keep trying. I did that with my baby turtle... the first few dys, she didnt touch much the pellets in her seperate feeding container. since I saw she didnt finish her pellets, so, i add the daily feedinh session refuel her with the amount of pellets he didnt eat before. for example, usually, 7 small pellets is her current feeding daily requirement, but she ate only 2 and leave 5 behind.. so, in few hours... I take her out again from the tank to her feeding area and give her 5 new pellets. after 3 days she get the signal yo get food is only in this same container.... not in the usual tank spot
I was wondering about your feeding schedule for the fish in the turtle tank. Do you feed the fish when the turtle is in the tank? If so, does the turtle try to eat the fish food? I imagine that can cause a little aggression between the fish and the turtle. Im curious, because I want to add fish to my new turtle tank. I’ve taken care of fish a long time, but never with a turtle.
We have a red eared slider. He likes red leaf lettuce. Can this be fed to him daily (he's 4.5 years) or should be only a few times a week like his pellets?
I just got a red ear and eastern painted they’re babies. I’m feeding them pellets but I feel like the painted isn’t eating. What should I try to make sure it’s eating? The red ear loves to eat
Hi Turtle girl? Love your channel! Its very informative. I have a red ear slider I "found " yes found!!!! In Walmart!! She was under the car next to me! I cought her and drove home and placed her in a plastic bin till I got a tank the next day! She was just sitting there on the hot ground. In Las Vegas!! Anyway she is about 6 inches and seems healthy . Should I be feeding her about 3x a week? It been daily since I found her..about a month now.
So I have a couple baby painted turtles... less than a year old. The amount of food you fed seemed more than I was expecting. Maybe I’m not giving mine enough? Also what’s the Downside of feeding smaller portions more often? I’m more so a fish keeper and I like to feed 2-3x a day with smaller portions. Is that bad to do with turtles ? Also any thoughts on fluval bug bites made for fish being fed for turtles? I can’t imagine much of a difference... I mean an insect is an insect right lol
Is someone's turtle like my son's turtles? Nessa is weird... like I'll put in the food and she just keep trying to reach up to me when the food is already in the water... I feel like she's a little dumb and can't deny some times it gets me annoyed as she move towards me and not the food. I have to literally direct her with my hands/fingers to literally show he. It only gets me upset when I'm in a rush on my way out and don't want to forget to feed her and so to have to stop, put my hand in there then have to wash my hands when done etc. Sometimes I feel like I don't have patience for her and wanna get her a new home. Haven't done it because I told my son I wouldn't (he's out in college and so I'm babysitting) lol Edit. Is there any suggestion as to what I can do to make this better?
Lol they can be kinda dumb. Maybe try feeding in a separate container and drop the food in and leave her alone. Set a timer for 5 minutes or 10 minutes, then go back to check on her and return her to the tank. I know that may be a little more time consuming but it is just another option :))
I have a res. It doesn’t seem to like the repto sticks the guy recommended at pet smart. Although, my turtle likes dried shrimp. How do I get it to like pellets if it doesn’t like them
I have to clean my tank once a week or the smell gets bad. But I feed my turtle in her tank not in a seperate container. It's a hard job but worth it to me.
Feeding a red ear slider. At least double the size of your nemo. Tank is not big enough (55 gal) 2 turtles. Any tips? Am not able to get a bigger tank. Am turtle sitting for a year or so
I am planning on getting a turtle, I already have a 50 gallon tank and I am looking for a 7 inch turtle that isnt too expensive, do you have any suggestions?
I have a baby (about 7month-10months) RES. How often should I be feeding him? Also, I’ve heard that it’s good to feed them vegetables, what are your thoughts on that?
i would recommend feeding him zoomed pellets daily and also veggies 3x a week. i also post turtle videos (care and enclosures etc.) if you are interested in watching them
The turtle girl, do you have recommendation for food, for a baby red eared slider I try giving it almost every from protein to fruit and it’s doesn’t want to eat and it been over a month now since it ate and I’m worry about him
Xiyao Liao no is zoo med sticks I was thinking buying it meal worm and reptomin but I think it still shy the most of the time he spend hiding in the corner and when I’m gone he bask

Hello pls help. My turtle cant sink. She's not swimming lop-sided, just the top middle of her shell is always exposed. Idk if she cant really sink because the only time she swims down is when i give her food that sink
honestly it's a bit hard to pinpoint...I'd probably say observe the growth rate and appetite of your turtle and go from there. I haven't actually raised turtles from hatchlings so I'm not sure - but you might reach out to DanTheTurtleMan to see if he has any opinions :)

Hi I have a question is my red ear sider turtle still hibernating because it will open its eye but it just won't eat.

I feed the fish while the turtles are eating outside the tank :) that way it avoids any chances of aggression.
How do you know if your turtle is a juvenile (i am gonna get a turtle so please respond quick)

We have a red eared slider. He likes red leaf lettuce. Can this be fed to him daily (he's 4.5 years) or should be only a few times a week like his pellets?

Hey! What do you suggest for a tank that is pretty acidic? Like i used the test strips and it has nitrates and nitrites and acidic ph! Help!
Have you tried turtle shots with veggies? They should really be getting a shell sized piece of lettuce or greens daily.
@Xiyao Liao soak in tinned tuna with spring water NOT brine then offer it to them!
What kind of substrate and where did you get it?
Hi Turtle girl?

Is someone's turtle like my son's turtles? Nessa is weird... like I'll put in the food and she just keep trying to reach up to me when the food is already in the water...
