Snails and shrimp are great they breed fast and make a good food source for the turtle. As long as u have a big enough tank and hiding spots for them to be able to breed u should be good
Hi Sol! I've had bad experience with algae eaters. Definitely a no go. Same with minnows, although I had assumed they'd end up snacks for the turtles. I have Buenos Aires tetras, and giant danios. You covered everything well. I have tried other tank mates like red tailed sharks, but ultimately removed them because I saw them being hunted. They just weren't quick or aggressive enough and probably would have wound up being ate.
The trap door thing with snails and turtles is a thing i had it happen years ago with painted turtles. Luckily I caught it in time. Happend multiple times.
I’ve had 2 comet goldfish and 1 shubunkin in the tank for about a year and a half now. I got them big enough so I know Timothee (my turtle) wouldnt be able to eat them. The first two weeks he chased them a bit but they’ve all coexisted peacefully ever since!
I currently keep 5 large bichirs, a rocket gar, and festivum cichlid with my adult pink belly slider and musk turtle, they coexist beautifully, but they are also in a 500g
Omg I'm kinda early again! I was just wondering what type of fish do u think will work with my yellow belly slider? She is still about 2-3 inches and loves to swim and bask. Thank you and LOVE your videos!!!❤️
I've got cherry shrimp with my common musk turtle, she does catch them once in a while but she misses 9 of 10 she goes for lol. They've bred and taken over her tank.
I have 2 African clawed frogs and 3 snails in my turtle tank. I’ve had them for months they have no aggression towards eachother so it’s been good. But my snails did mate and laid eggs so I’ve moved them to a different tank haha
Keep in mind that turtles are unpredictable and sometimes randomly turn on their tankmates. Provide a lot of hiding spaces for your frogs if you wish to keep them alive. And feed the turtle daily. Plainly put, don't become attached to animals that you choose to cohabit with your turtle. I do not recommend naming the frogs!
@@RichBuddy I'm sorry to say that the frogs would probably be eaten one by one. You had the right idea with the large enclosure, but here's the fatal flaw. Poison dart frogs are unlikely to have the instincts to coexist. They are confident and bold, and would probably just hang out around the turtle too obviously for him to ignore. Now in the wild they have potent poison and have nothing to fear. In captivity they are usually harmless, and they would not realize that they should be hiding when the turtle is around. For a box turtle, I'd say only a bullfrog would be safe. I'm hoping to move our red-eared slider to an outdoor enclosure for her to share with some bullfrogs, but even then they would have their own private pond to escape to.
Hi I love your videos and just wanted to ask how much does it cost to get a northern diamond back turtle I been wanting one for a month now and been doing a lot of research and now figuring out how much the turtle costs thanks and great video!
I personally recommend rosy red minnows. Although they do contain thiaminase, that is not an issue when you are trying to cohabit them with turtles because if you set them up for success, the turtles will have a hard time catching them in the first place. Although they are "feeder" fish, they actually make much better tank mates! Reason 1: They can tolerate poor water conditions. Of course, the water should be kept as clean as possible, but they are not what I would call a "sensitive" species. They also have very basic oxygen requirements. Reason 2: They can tolerate temperatures anywhere between 100 degrees f and 33 degrees f. Reason 3: They are very fast. Their forked tails and streamlined bodies mean that if you provide them with a lot of space, they are too fast for the turtles to chase. Reason 4: They actually have a complex compound called "Schreckstoff" that marks their predators. That means that if one fish is eaten by the turtle, it will smell like danger to the others, and they will try harder to avoid it. The only reason feeder fish get eaten so quickly is because they are set up for disaster. They are usually not acclimated to the water, and they are thrown into the tank during feeding time. The results would hypothetically be different if the turtle was added into the tank AFTER the fish. But most importantly... Reason 5: Most people will not be devastated if the turtle manages to catch them. And if the turtle eats the minnows on one occasion, that is not nearly enough thiaminase to cause any issues. We also feed our turtle pellets that help to replenish any thiamin lost.
See I had to find the most aggressive fish for my turtle Bowser’s pond… but then again my turtle is super aggro all the time everything just stays clear of Bowser now(bowser is a hybrid of a common Florida snapper and a alligator snapper)
My turtle actively chases anything that moved lol recently started to move him to an inside tank because winter is coming and now I’m looking for a fish to help clean up the bottom today is the first day that he has been in it and he seems to like it
İ introduced two tetras, ghost and cherry shrimp and a snail in my RES tank and she tried to go after them for the first two days then gave up when she couldnt catch any 😅 now she mostly leaves them alone unless the shrimp get too close but honestly theyre too fast for my turtle. By the way my turtle is super hungry all the time and goes after anything that moves in the tank EXCEPT her current tank mates(she'll try to bite my hand when i remove the filter for cleaning even though shes well fed) the only problem i saw was she tried to eat the snail so i moved it to another tank but i think as long as the tank mates are fast enough its going to be alright. Also they do an awesome job of keeping the tank clean!
So I just finished building my turtle tank waiting a few months to add them in while the plants get nice roots on them. Am having trouble finding some info someone might be able to help with. NO TOXIC FISH From personal experience, please don't put any potentially toxic or poisonous fish in with a turtle. Under stress some catfish like cory cats can release a toxin. Yet a pleco has lived in with him for his whole like without being eaten. In my common snapper tank....nothing survives. Anything in there ANYTHING is food. Living or fake.
I just want to warn you that the pleco is doomed to a definite fate unless it passes away of old age before the turtle grows into a monster. I also hope you are prepared to accommodate the adults of both species. You might be able to house the two together if they are similar in size, but you would need a HUGE enclosure. A 1,000 gallon outdoor enclosure might be required.
@@avonavians2860 Yes, I have found as long as alligator snapers are fed well they do not hunt. yeah they're fine to eat...just not good tankmates if you want them to stay alive haha! and make sure they can't choke on the snails. Ramshorns and pondsnails are a great option...mystery and apple are sometimes a little too big and might be a hazard.
Hello my daughter recently got a baby yellow belly slider it took him a whole week before he ate anything which was a small warm cut in half and now he will only eat warms any advice please ?
I currently have a 200gal tub with four red eared sliders. I wanted to try putting fish so I put minnows and goldfish. Unfortunately they ate the minnows in a day but all of the goldfish are still alive after six months. Happy with the result I put in a koi and it has been dominating the whole tub ever since.
My turtle died today he was an orange earned slider he had some problems with his reptilian eye recent and treated and just today when I went out he died
If the do good with tiger barbs would one be ok with a red tail shark I’m just concerned as the turtle would spend most of its time on the bottom where the shark stays so I know at some point the will interact and I know turtles aren’t that fast so would it at least stand up for itself/ be ok to just hide in its shell from all my research I’ve only read that retails just like to chase and don’t necessarily nip/ attack the fish but will swim the fish to exhaustion
I hate when people say oh you can't add other fish to a turtle tank. If you keep the water clean you won't have an issue. The first time I added neons my turtle ate a few. Sure it's natural. However, when I got more again she did not even touch them only if they died.
What’s something that could stay with a male yellow eared slider. Found him as a hatchlings in the grass with seagulls trying to eat him so he’s very friendly with humans and even swims up to my hand and rests his head on it. But I’m unsure how a 15 year old male slider would react to fish or shrimp especially considering he’s been a little solo turtle for most of his life aside from a loach that’s catapulted itself out the tank somehow
can you give me information about a axolotl so My axolotl has vellow dots over its body and I have not seen it until today is that normal or is it not normal

I have a like 3 year d red eared slider and a tiger Oscar who is a small one and currently keeping in a 20 gallon until I can put him in the 69 gallon with the turtle do you think they would work together because my turtle is very aggressive to smaller fish
So would shrimp and snails be safe prey to provide for them? Or do you list them in case one doesn't want to provide them as prey?
yeah they're fine to eat...just not good tankmates if you want them to stay alive haha! and make sure they can't choke on the snails. Ramshorns and pondsnails are a great option...mystery and apple are sometimes a little too big and might be a hazard.
@@TheTurtleGirl thank you.
Glad that you found something that worked out!
What about algae feeders? Those don’t need any special care do they? They just feed off the algae right ?
My turtle died today he was an orange earned slider he had some problems with his reptilian eye recent and treated and just today when I went out he died
I’m so sorry to hear that :((
If the do good with tiger barbs would one be ok with a red tail shark I’m just concerned as the turtle would spend most of its time on the bottom where the shark stays so I know at some point the will interact and I know turtles aren’t that fast so would it at least stand up for itself/ be ok to just hide in its shell from all my research I’ve only read that retails just like to chase and don’t necessarily nip/ attack the fish but will swim the fish to exhaustion
If my tap water is from a well and it’s treated with salts is it still safe to top off the tank with?
Hmmm...I'm not sure what the process would be for treating well water :D
I hate when people say oh you can't add other fish to a turtle tank. If you keep the water clean you won't have an issue. The first time I added neons my turtle ate a few. Sure it's natural. However, when I got more again she did not even touch them only if they died.
Yeah! Its not that you cant, you just have to be cautious! Too many get eaten lol
@@TheTurtleGirl That's why u buy cheap neons only haha.
My Painted Turtle got her claws stuck in a trapdoor snail. Fortunately I discovered it before she drowned.
How about Plecos? 🙂❤️🤙
worth a shot, just make sure you have the space and know that they will increase the bioload of your tank by a lot!
My red eared slider LOVES ramshorns.
hehe they make good snacks!
and that's why my parents bought a 50 gallon tank for my goldfish now
What’s something that could stay with a male yellow eared slider.
Id try some small peaceful fish!
My flying river turtle tankmates with my polypterus and nothing happens with them after 4th years. They growth together
Can a large Pleco live with red earred slider turtles?

What types of setups or small turtle that I can put with my African dwarf frogs?
I wouldn’t mix turtles with any type of frog , just because they’re a bit too different.
Omg how big is the 75gallon turtle tank??
75 gallons? lol
@@TheTurtleGirl it's ur yellow turtle the one who is always behind u with that huge tank. I think it's called the painted turtle. It's behind in ur newer videos with driftwood
Snails and plecos by the way are perfect to be with turtles turtles don't mess with plecos for one they don't like to be near them they avoid them at all cost and snails they don't really go after unless they're out of a shell
Hi I’m new here is it possible to keep a turtle with koi pond fish I’ve asked around but I I’m not getting a direct answer
Yes, it is! As long as it’s big enough for everyone to live comfortably and has everything the turtle needs, like a basking area for example.
Can I put in a gulper catfish with turtle

I'd try every other day!
@@TheTurtleGirl thanks a lot.
Can I keep small turtle with glofish's together in my big tank
Please reply me
You could, I would just make sure the glofish have enough places to hide, in case your turtle becomes a little too interesting in eating them lol
I keep Jewel cichlids with my turtles and they do good together

@@TheTurtleGirl thank you

Is it safe for me to be putting minnows in my turtle tank since he is a painted turtle & that would be his normal diet in the wild?
Yes, minnows would be good for the painted to eat, NO GOLDFISH
@@borundle7197 ok I have tried feeding greens other veggies and turtle pebble food and he does not want any of it besides minnows!

my friend🐢🐠🐟
Lol no arowanas in my future but they sure are cool!
So, what did you end up doing with your blind turtles?
What do turtles eat
I have a stupid question: does the turtle eat the shell of the snail? I'd like to get my boys a snack without a big mess.
It would depend on your turtles preferences ha
Mine kind of crushes it then spits most of the shell out!
