Correction: It can indeed sync with Necrotic Grips as it's a Weapon of Sorrow, I completely forgot about this because of reasons. The big elephant in the room I didn't mention here is Osteo Striga. For all intents and purposes, it does Necro's job better because you don't need to aim and it can overcharge its mag size to 100. It's probably the better option for 99% of people, but it's nowhere near as fun as Necro can be when it's in full song. I didn't want to mention it in this review because I didn't want to detract from the pure joy of this weapon and what it's all about. Hope that makes sense.
yeah i just cannot see myself using nechro over striga i tried to like it but every time i use it i just feel like i could just use striga and do way better
a hidden interaction with necrochasm: if an enemy is poisoned(in my case by necrotic grips) if that target is then hit by necrochasm they'll explode on death as if that poision was caused by necrochasm. that's if you either hit them and let the poison tick them down or you kill them with a bodyshot with necrochasm while they're poisoned
I agree, though I’ll still prefer Necro for the fun factor alone, but Necro still has 2 advantages that some people might find suit their tastes. One, since it just does explosions instead of poison, it’ll kill enemies faster and let you clear rooms quicker. Two, probably the more important one, it has chaining capabilities by default, while Osteo needs necrotic grips to chain

Not realy. Im trying to use that weapon for quite some time, but outbreak is on different level. Even striga is different. Necrochasm is for low level stuff (as you see in video) and nice in pvp and thats it. If you take it into harder content, stroga, outbreak, sunshot and many more exotics are far better
The problem with gun isn’t with the gun itself, it’s just that other weapons do the job far better. Want an auto rifle for pve that slays? Quicksilver storm. Wanna blow up entire rooms? Sunshot. Hell, all of the raid weapons have the cursed thrall perk so even THAT isn’t unique to Necro. Even the cursed thrall explosion wasn’t on precision kills, the gun would have a place. But even then, again, sunshot exists. Edit: “This weapon is a MONSTER for ad clear.” Again, SUNSHOT.
Sure, but on the other hand I think we've reached the point with loot that it shouldn't be immediately about the best in slot anything, but more about the experiences they provide. Because if we're only concerned with the best stuff, there's no point in considering anything new/unique as worthwhile and we should only consider the stuff that will accelerate power creep and lead to more calls for sunsetting.
This is such a dumb argument. Not every new weapon needs to be best in slot. If quicksilver or sunshot can do things better than what’s the point of every other exotic weapon in their category? It’s for players to have more freedom to build around or with them. What necrochasm has going for it is still pretty amazing, paired with necrotic grips and strand it’s a beast. In pvp it is also a weapon that holds its own.

The three Crota's End energy primaries (Abyss Defiant, Word of Crota, Oversoul Edict) can do the exact same thing if you pair them with their corresponding add clear perks (Incandescent/DR/Voltshot), Flared Magwell, and a third column reload perk (subsistence/enlightened action/outlaw). Not only will this provide the same room-clearing chain explosion insta-reload tomfuckery as the Necro, but it also allows you to synergize all that craziness with _whatever_ _subclass_ _you're_ _using_ . It also saves your exotic weapon slot for something else and saves your time from however many weeks it'll take to complete the exotic quest. Sure, getting a melee kill is more of a hassle than a precision kill, but it's absolutely worth it since you literally get a better Necrochasm for 15 seconds (with the Origin Trait artifact mod) in return.

I agree, QSS is god tier right now. Necrochasm is cool and all, but QSS catalyst just puts it so far ahead in terms of subclass synergy and damage output.

I think this thing just needs a catalyst rework to push it over the edge from just being “good” to me I don’t disagree about any of its strengths in PvE, but there are downsides and nuisances to using a mag dump weapon with a crit kill requirement, it’s a lot of “attention cost” to use Deep Rock terms In a game where Quicksilver and Wishender exist and as Exotic primaries are handling everything from trash add clear, to elites, to chunking champions, it’s hard to use an Exotic whose only niche is add clear The explosions may be the strongest in the game, but there are lazier options like Graviton and Sunshot right there with no crit requirement which hit for more health per trigger pull, not after a mag’s worth of precision tracking Not to mention Grav and Sunshot get lethality bumps from elemental synergies, volatile rounds and scorch/ignite; compared to those amplified feels just okay If the catalyst gave it some way to deal chunk damage on large targets either by building a meter, landing enough consecutive hits on one target (like Kinetic Tremors), something like that, then I think it’d stand up to the all-purpose kings of Exotic primaries (Quicksilver & Wishender)

I think it’s alright. It definitely needs some buffs though. Rework the catalyst to have body kills create explosions and increase the damage of the explosions
Its sad that in harder pve content this exotic doesnt feel exotic anymore. In easy content its pretty nice. It needs something like after 20 headshot u trigger explosion. In nightfalls/master raids u are better with whatever different exotic than this
I treat Necrochasm like a 720 RPM SMG with more range and i have a blasy with it, and the Cursed Thrall explosions are a bit reminiscent of Cloudstrike as in if you get the headshot next to a weakened Guardian and a full health Guardian, that full health Guardian will die from 2 explosions granting you a "Holy shit" triple kill moment
I love how it feels super sticky in pvp personally. I feel something cool they could do if they update the catalyst as outlaw seems kinda meh imo is also give it extra range during desperation

I just got it late last night. I'm running this with chromatic fire on void. Chromatic fire will add to the explosion damage as well as weaken them. I'll have to see how the interaction works. If it technically weakens before or after the cursed thrall explosion but if it weakens before then that's really gonna shred. If not it will still make the ticks do more and it's easier to chain kills and keep devour up.
I don’t understand why everyone wants to directly compare this weapon to quicksilver and say “well quicksilver is better so I’m not using this” 1) sometimes it’s fun to use something different you don’t have to be 100 percent optimal in anything but master raids/ GMS 2) they could buff this gun similar to vex mythoclast buff. The base gun is still really good but maybe theirs a catalyst change or something to make it more spicy 3) sometimes it’s nice to have fun people. This gun looks fun and that’s important

But the funny thing in all this is that, why the fuck, would bungie give a weapon like necrochasm, a gun that has auto-reload built in to its perks and has a masive reload stat outlaw, fucking outlaw!
My raid team is memeing on me because I got Conditional Finality on my first RoN run, then when we killed Crota it dropped 32 oversouls for me somehow. Now I'm just waiting till we run it again and I'll have Necrochasm, closest you could get to a first run exotic drop for Crota
I honestly don't see the value of Necro, other than for just fooling around (as another Weapon of Sorrow) Desperation takes it from 720 to 900 rpm. A 25% damage buff. But it requires a reload, like Kill Clip. While still needing a precision kill. So you get a Rampage level damage buff (less damage than Kill Clip) but require a higher skilled kill. Not a good trade off. The only upside is the trash mob perk, and that's only viable on lower tiered content. Another Collection fodder weapon until it gets a strong re-work.
I mean its still just a worse forberance for arc subclasses and esspecially for arc hunters that wants to run forberance and a 1-2 punch shotgun or just two 1-2 punch shotguns. Its also worse as you said in you pinned comment than osteo for Necrotics but if you want a more fun version imo Thorn after the hc buff feels way better than Necrocasm for its use case. I feel that it could use the sunshot treatment giving the explosion on all kills but maybe keeping the perk activasion on headshot kills. Another option I thought of was to retain the headshot nature until you activate desperation allowing the explosion to activate on all kills after that and maybe extend the perk after every normal kill or just bump the timer a little.
I was waiting for the gun to come back for yrs since I never dropped it in D1. Im doing necrochasm pure justice because ive literally never unequipped it since I got it day 1 at crota and Im at 2k kills total in both pve and pvp. Still not gonna take it off anytime soon, its my baby
The problem that I have about it is is that I wish I could get it but I don't have any friends, yet is a pain to do it with randoms that are sometimes toxic to you
I like Necrochasm but I hate precision perks on Auto Rifles and Smgs (stuff like fttc or triple tap isnt included) You can land 99% headshots and if one bullet slips away to body the perk isnt activated which is so annoying but especially so on Necrochasm cause its whole gimmick revolves around that. It the catalyst should be on bodyshot too BUT I propose something else, perhaps cursed thrall like from the Crota weapons so securing a melee kill lands you thrallsplosion potential AND works even better with Necrotic Grips. Hell ill even take after desperation is active kills refresh the timer and bodyshots do explosions.
Whenever i heard about nechrochasm getting a bit of a rework in destiny 1 i rember thinking, "why tf would i bother with that when i have both zhalo and a legendary genisis chain which (in my opinion) both outweigh its usefulness and fun factor" (i still to this day believe that concerning d1) I practically thought the same thing when it came out in d2, that it was just not gonna hit as hard as my genis chain did so why tf bother, especially given the grind needed to do it. After hearing about the one for thrall addition to the catalyst i 180'd so fucking hard, literally just insert that meme of captain K'nuckles and that dog backflipping and it'd describe this perfectly. Im like 13 runs in only needing 9 oversoul essence left for the catalyst completion. Let the good times roll. It better do the full 35% damage buff though i swear to god.
I dont think i am. And thats because of one word. Voltshot. Better with arc so it maskes those explosions irrelevant, because it has more range than the explosions and its continuous and it doesnt need a critical kill. Necro is just another legendary weapon when it comes to its effectiveness.
I find it a bit disingenuous that you didn't mention quicksilver storm at all as its also known for high stability like necrochasm while still outranging it and a pve workhouse. You shouldve mentioned this when wondeirng whether its worth the grind.
The problem with that is, while you are right. The quick silver is locked behind a pre order paywall, while the necro chasm is a free to play exotic, which do you think players will want more something that costs a 100$ dollars and is easy to get and is good or something that can be earned via a quest and gotten thro time and effort but still worth it.
you can just use sunshot and it does pretty much the same exact thing BUT its in the energy slot and since necro is in the kinetic slot then you can just use necro instead of sunshot if you want to use something else for your energy slot also about the osteo part doesnt it only chain poison if youre using necrotics? cant necro chain poison through its explosions without necrotics? correct me if im wrong please
this gun feels like a pea shooter and is one of the worst weapons in the game. No reason to use it AT ALL over other exotics that make this gun obsolete.
Necrochasm is great for ad clear for PvE but generally is going to be far worse than Quicksilver Storm for beefier targets and higher level content. Quicksilver is just the king of autos for PvE tbh since it is powerful for all levels of play
The fact that the 'kinetic' Quicksilver suffers no downside running without it's catalyst, Necrochasm has no good reason to be chosen over it in endgame content. Sure it's fun and all, but unlike Quicksilver & Monte Carlo, it doesn't do anything particularly special or exotic.
Very mid weapon. Osteo striga besides being ad clear weapon has very good dmg on chunky targets. Quicksilver is just the best weapon in the game and comparing it to Necrochasm isn’t even required. What is should be compared to is Graviton,Sunshot.Graviton hits hard and synergies good with void class. Sunshot just got buffed and does crazy dmg to orange bars plus is very good on solar(scorch). Necrochasm should at least have a kinetic thrall(tremors) or target lock to boost its dmg to single target cuz desperation isn’t that much of a help
Necro is certainly a fun weapon but it's just not possible to get if you didn't get it during contest & the catalyst is even more of a dream even if you regularly no-life the raid. I have 15 full clears, all the triumphs, tons of encounters, & just 14 souls - meaning I still wouldn't have necro if I didn't get it during contest - & yeah, you still need 35 for the catalyst. I only got 1 soul during the entire triumph grind. Bungie better jack up the rates 100 fold next week.
the 20 u get to get the gun from the quest count for the catylest as well, so you only tecnically need 15 for catylest if u got the 20 for the quest, 35 total eitherway

The grind for this gun was brutal in the first game too. I loved my Necrochasm in D1. Totally worth the grind.
It was meh even after the buffs it got later down the line. Definitely not worth it, objectively speaking

It would have to proc after wouldnt it? Chromatic fire explosions occur after a delay when an enemy dies whereas necrochasm is immediately on kill

My raid team is memeing on me because I got Conditional Finality on my first RoN run, then when we killed Crota it dropped 32 oversouls for me somehow. Now I'm just waiting till we run it again and I'll have Necrochasm, closest you could get to a first run exotic drop for Crota
I honestly don't see the value of Necro, other than for just fooling around (as another Weapon of Sorrow)
Desperation takes it from 720 to 900 rpm. A 25% damage buff.
But it requires a reload, like Kill Clip. While still needing a precision kill.
So you get a Rampage level damage buff (less damage than Kill Clip) but require a higher skilled kill. Not a good trade off.
The only upside is the trash mob perk, and that's only viable on lower tiered content.
Another Collection fodder weapon until it gets a strong re-work.

i want 900 autos back and easy way to do it is 900 smg stats with handling lower and stability higher and the autorifle sticker on it
I mean its still just a worse forberance for arc subclasses and esspecially for arc hunters that wants to run forberance and a 1-2 punch shotgun or just two 1-2 punch shotguns. Its also worse as you said in you pinned comment than osteo for Necrotics but if you want a more fun version imo Thorn after the hc buff feels way better than Necrocasm for its use case. I feel that it could use the sunshot treatment giving the explosion on all kills but maybe keeping the perk activasion on headshot kills. Another option I thought of was to retain the headshot nature until you activate desperation allowing the explosion to activate on all kills after that and maybe extend the perk after every normal kill or just bump the timer a little.
Is it worth the grind for the catalyst? I got my 20 oversouls but I can't decide if the grind is worth outlaw...
No it already has good reload speed and auto reload in PvE

I was waiting for the gun to come back for yrs since I never dropped it in D1. Im doing necrochasm pure justice because ive literally never unequipped it since I got it day 1 at crota and Im at 2k kills total in both pve and pvp. Still not gonna take it off anytime soon, its my baby
The problem that I have about it is is that I wish I could get it but I don't have any friends, yet is a pain to do it with randoms that are sometimes toxic to you

I like Necrochasm but I hate precision perks on Auto Rifles and Smgs (stuff like fttc or triple tap isnt included) You can land 99% headshots and if one bullet slips away to body the perk isnt activated which is so annoying but especially so on Necrochasm cause its whole gimmick revolves around that. It the catalyst should be on bodyshot too BUT I propose something else, perhaps cursed thrall like from the Crota weapons so securing a melee kill lands you thrallsplosion potential AND works even better with Necrotic Grips. Hell ill even take after desperation is active kills refresh the timer and bodyshots do explosions.

Whenever i heard about nechrochasm getting a bit of a rework in destiny 1 i rember thinking, "why tf would i bother with that when i have both zhalo and a legendary genisis chain which (in my opinion) both outweigh its usefulness and fun factor" (i still to this day believe that concerning d1)
I practically thought the same thing when it came out in d2, that it was just not gonna hit as hard as my genis chain did so why tf bother, especially given the grind needed to do it.
After hearing about the one for thrall addition to the catalyst i 180'd so fucking hard, literally just insert that meme of captain K'nuckles and that dog backflipping and it'd describe this perfectly.
Im like 13 runs in only needing 9 oversoul essence left for the catalyst completion. Let the good times roll.

I dont think i am. And thats because of one word. Voltshot. Better with arc so it maskes those explosions irrelevant, because it has more range than the explosions and its continuous and it doesnt need a critical kill. Necro is just another legendary weapon when it comes to its effectiveness.

I find it a bit disingenuous that you didn't mention quicksilver storm at all as its also known for high stability like necrochasm while still outranging it and a pve workhouse. You shouldve mentioned this when wondeirng whether its worth the grind.
The problem with that is, while you are right. The quick silver is locked behind a pre order paywall, while the necro chasm is a free to play exotic, which do you think players will want more something that costs a 100$ dollars and is easy to get and is good or something that can be earned via a quest and gotten thro time and effort but still worth it.

you can just use sunshot and it does pretty much the same exact thing
BUT its in the energy slot and since necro is in the kinetic slot then you can just use necro instead of sunshot if you want to use something else for your energy slot
also about the osteo part
doesnt it only chain poison if youre using necrotics? cant necro chain poison through its explosions without necrotics?

this gun feels like a pea shooter and is one of the worst weapons in the game. No reason to use it AT ALL over other exotics that make this gun obsolete.
Necrochasm is great for ad clear for PvE but generally is going to be far worse than Quicksilver Storm for beefier targets and higher level content. Quicksilver is just the king of autos for PvE tbh since it is powerful for all levels of play

The new foetracer would probably work for hunters
The fact that the 'kinetic' Quicksilver suffers no downside running without it's catalyst, Necrochasm has no good reason to be chosen over it in endgame content.
Sure it's fun and all, but unlike Quicksilver & Monte Carlo, it doesn't do anything particularly special or exotic.
Very mid weapon. Osteo striga besides being ad clear weapon has very good dmg on chunky targets. Quicksilver is just the best weapon in the game and comparing it to Necrochasm isn’t even required. What is should be compared to is Graviton,Sunshot.Graviton hits hard and synergies good with void class. Sunshot just got buffed and does crazy dmg to orange bars plus is very good on solar(scorch). Necrochasm should at least have a kinetic thrall(tremors) or target lock to boost its dmg to single target cuz desperation isn’t that much of a help

i got every single catalyst essence in one kill from crota, all 35 :L .. too bad the catalyst is absolute balls.
Necro is certainly a fun weapon but it's just not possible to get if you didn't get it during contest & the catalyst is even more of a dream even if you regularly no-life the raid. I have 15 full clears, all the triumphs, tons of encounters, & just 14 souls - meaning I still wouldn't have necro if I didn't get it during contest - & yeah, you still need 35 for the catalyst. I only got 1 soul during the entire triumph grind. Bungie better jack up the rates 100 fold next week.
the 20 u get to get the gun from the quest count for the catylest as well, so you only tecnically need 15 for catylest if u got the 20 for the quest, 35 total eitherway
from the 19th you'll have a chance to just get all 35 upon a full raid clear

Outside of fun factor the weapon is just a 720 with kill clip and a worse osteo striga in PvE. Its a rapid fire with only one perk in PvP. Idk what nomad is going on about
