The 360 remaster is the only way I play this game lol. I love it, I even grew to love the new Goldeneye Port via Xbox, even if there's no multiplayer and the remaster is buried...
This made me start playing Perfect Dark again. And although I don't have nearly the skill of Zero, I still learned and applied that to my own gameplay. I cut some of my SA times in half.
Some of the level design was absolutely woeful (Pelagic II in particular) and certain parts of the game got so stupidly hard that they stopped being fun. But it felt absolutely groundbreaking at the time.
First 5 minutes i was watching this i was like, man, perfect dark zero looks a lot more like perfect dark 64 than i remember.... finally realized it IS perfect dark 64, BY Zero(_IF) xD The xbox360 platform tag didn't help either.

It was indeed made from the ground up as said by the developers in one of their making of videos. But you are right it is considered a remaster not remake. Being really nervous in front of 60k people makes thinking hard.
It's not a straight port of the original N64 game, no. It's a brand new rebuild based on the Xbox 360 SDK and so on. The same was true of the never-released Goldeneye remaster and what _actually_ got released was a bodge job emulation port.

Great run, but it's not a remake. It wasn't "from the ground up." There were upgraded textures, models and enhancements.
