I love how in some speedruns (including this one) most of it is incredibly elegant tech and precision movement and then there's parts where it's just "nah, I'll take phase 3 Raven Beak's hyper beam to the face to lay down more missiles, I've got the health"
My God........I was following Oats and some others optimize this game a fair bit after it came out and seeing how fast the game was at the time (also because Metroid IS the franchise closer to my heart after all, with Chrono), but what I saw here blows my mind. Honestly at some parts I felt a bit of movement dizziness from the sheer transitions and turnings speeds these guys achieved. Well done for Keku, this is some next-level shit.
The movement feels absolutely great in game, however they failed (in my opinion) to balance the difficulty/power fantasy with the exploration. Metroid has always been exploration first, but in this one they tried to make the bosses, and to a lesser extent all monster encounters, be closer to a souls like which is not what the series has ever been about. Bosses do ridiculous amounts of damage and for the average player will require multiple retries until you memorize its moveset. I've played Super Metroid, Fusion and Zero Mission multiple times, but by the time I got to the end of Dread I felt burnt out and just watched a YT video of the final boss fight and events that follow. Doubt I'll ever play it again. Edit: The instant death EMMI encounter zones were 100% frustration. No "Dread" involved at all. Chase sequences in Metroid (or Metroidvanias) are almost never fun.
Awesome run, Keku. The commentary and the techniques were on point. It was really fun to see it. I love the Metroid franchise, and Dread is easily one of the best games of the series. I hope we keep getting titles like this on the future.
1:23:47 I'm not 100% sure, but I think that the Clear Time includes the time from cutscenes, even when skipped, but doesn't include the time lost from deaths or menus, so it's purely how long Samus took to get through the story. Total Playtime is basically just how long you played, including deaths and menus.
Great run of a great game. My casual play through took me… a long time haha. I actually managed to learn the speedrun route of the old run to charge beam, it’s amazing to see this route change. These runners never cease to amaze me. Guess I’ll be relearning that segment :)
Fun fact: Experiment Z-57's core X had ice beam (that's why the boss had some ice based attacks), so when that core X got destroyed by the lava, Samus missed her chance at getting the ice beam on ZDR.
Metroid Fusion established that the Metroid DNA given to Samus to save her life also prevents her from using ice beam, as Metroids can't handle extreme cold. So in Fusion and Dread Samus has to use ice missiles instead.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Fusion say that due to being part Metroid, Samus could no longer use an ice beam? That’s why she switched to ice missiles
@@sizzle5775 yes. because the power suit that became samus x had ice beam, the X had ice beam, and absorbing it let Samus use the ice beam again, which was needed for the Metroid.
Keku is such an amazing person and a god gamer. He really made this run look way easier than it actually is. Nailing a lot of those tricks first shot. One of the best runs of SGDQ. Great job.
Samus blows up the planet this time to eliminate the X Parasites that have completely taken over the planet. There are working ships there so if the X used them to hop planets then the galaxy would be doomed. That was her whole mission this game.
Just beat this game a few days ago and can't believe how much harder I made it for myself just by not knowing the best way to defeat some of these bosses. Are you telling me I could've used the grapple beam to remove the gold chozo warrior's shield??? Or that I could've just mashed the regular beam instead of using tons of missiles on like, every boss in the game?? Man...
@Keku: Great speed run. You're definitely a pro. I've got a couple questions: Your first time playing Dread, were you just as noob as the rest of us? Did you do any planning / studying before your first play through or did you go in blind? Did you take your time to experience the game and it's story?
@MroTralisk everyone starts somewhere! yeah i just went into Dread blind and tried to figure out different things. I've had a lot of difficulty with Raven Beak that's for sure. and I did take my time with the game before speedrunning it :)
I wonder if the sequence break where you can defeat Kraid with the secret cutscene at the end of the first phase could make this run even more impressive than it already is.
How do you get your loading screens to load so fast. It takes me about 5 minutes to load anytime I transport anywhere. I have the game running off the micro-sd card. Does running off the console memory or a game cartridge load faster?
So anyone knows why in 2:24 entering the room and insta talking to adam? Like, Samus need to walk on the center of the room to start talking to adam right ?

Runner really showed off his stuff. Absolutely has a ton of Metroid Cred.
Us fans of this series are getting Metroid Fed
He knows his game too, he's a real Metroid Head
This runner radiates positive energy. Love it. Never stop being you KEKU!
Great run! Was waiting to watch a metroid dread run for when it came up at GDQ

@@Drytchnath Bosses felt Souls-like? What? lol
am I alone in thinking the bosses in Dread were not that hard? I thought Metroid Prime and Super Metroid were way harder
I believe samus's planetary destruction spree started with super metroid's zebes
The Aloha song around 36-37min; It just totally lifted my spirits.
Awesome run, Keku. The commentary and the techniques were on point. It was really fun to see it.

Dread is such a great speedrunning game
This was the most wholesome speedrun I've probably ever watched
That Water Jump Space Jump trick at the Screw Attack always messed with me so many times. But it's soooo worth it

I remember how often i died playing that game and he absolutely smashed it
Awesome run keku! Was waiting so long to see Dread at GDQ and your run was amazing!
The energy of the host when 2mio were reached is so awesome
The whole buildup/countdouwn was amazing..
Fun fact: Experiment Z-57's core X had ice beam (that's why the boss had some ice based attacks), so when that core X got destroyed by the lava, Samus missed her chance at getting the ice beam on ZDR.

It was a joy to watch this live. Hopefully on-site next time. Well done Keku!
Keku is such an amazing person and a god gamer. He really made this run look way easier than it actually is. Nailing a lot of those tricks first shot. One of the best runs of SGDQ. Great job.
thank you! :)
LOVE that the 2 milly hit during this run
Keku forever passes the vibe check 👌🏿
awesome to hear 😄
Fantastic run! I gave up on this game after dying to kraid 50 times, awesome to se someone so proficient at it.
Great run keku! Glad to see you showcasing the game at GDQ!
thanks karter!
Keku making the trauma enducing pain of getting through the maze of Metroid Dreadfrul look easy AF loL!.
Excellent job keku, amazing run!
thank you!
Making Hawaii proud, fantastic run Keku!
mahalo!
The only acceptable intro to a GDQ video in either energy or brevity.
He brought back quality crisp 😂
What a brilliant run, GG Keku!
The crowd yelling in the background reminds me of wii sports for some reason
the best gravity suit design is still metroid prime's.
metallic purple and cyan accents and visor, its godlike.
Man! He makes it all look just so easy!
Samus blows up the planet this time to eliminate the X Parasites that have completely taken over the planet. There are working ships there so if the X used them to hop planets then the galaxy would be doomed. That was her whole mission this game.
gratz for Keku always love me some Metroid Dread vids : 👀

I felt the same watching him use the Storm Missles on Z-57 in the boss rush lol. I manually shot missiles and 2 phased those legs in my first run.
Metroid and 2 million, always better together.
1:24:00 Boss Rush starts
best speedgame of the 21st century
Imagine Raven Beak working years for this plan just to get crushed in less than 1 hour and a half.
What a fantastic run
Love to see Dayoman's "cute chat" and AYAYAYA staples show up lmao
Keku's eccentricity is hilarious. Awesome run!
Grats Keku!
thank you!

"Faux Pa" ...my goodness 🤣
Dang you are so quick that the quick EMMI couldn't think in time.
Awesome run
I wonder why a lot of the recordings are very stuttery... either way, awesome run Keku!
At first i thought keku had a quiet robe hat/costume 😂
I would say remake super metroid
ngl i was vibing with the Narrator @44:54
aww shucks
Mahalo for the run!
does the video stop for anyone else? Like the internet went down at some point or is my computer broken?
FANTASTIC RUN AND FANTASTIC SPEEDRUNNER!
thank you!
Sick dread run
Amazing
The dude at the 22:00 minute mark YELLING a donation, literally woke up my partner.
MAHALo kita for your runs keku
It's morbin time
some of the best puns ive heard at gdq
faux pa. father figure
I wonder if the sequence break where you can defeat Kraid with the secret cutscene at the end of the first phase could make this run even more impressive than it already is.
The singing during this run>>>>>
12:10 I was trying to figure this out on my own for a solid half hour, I didn't realize aiming could extend the damage boost.
Long live the Kekureoke 🤣
love from the 808 state
God I love this game
Metroid Dread: dadjoke%
im watching this while trying to beat kraid for the first time ever
edit: I DID IT!!!! IT TOOK ALMOST THE ENTIRE RUN BUT I DID IT!!!!!!
1:21:10 Samas Aran, professional planet exploder.
18:40 Daft Punk forever! 🤖🤖
Getting to dairon at 17 min is crazy
boss rush shows how tough these bosses are using conventional attacks, glad they showed that after the speed run.
I'm crushed Adam Skip isn't called "Helplessness Skip"
The hat has flappy ears?! :D
44:50 - 45:12 awesome
KEKU!!!
44:54 imagine rythm heaven on GDQ
52:39 accidental first person
Metroid Dreading the screen freezes. Otherwise awesome run Keku
It is unfortunate that all the recordings got frozen on some sections this sgdq :/
20:45 Only diff is that Spazer can't stack with Plasma by default lol
But what about Metroid Fred?
Amazing! I am a noob so it took me 7:15 on rookie mode
Nice
Im sad this game doesnt have the full body reveal like all the previous titles when you beat it in a small time frame
Can anyone explain the dog joke to me please LOL.
it's just a silly joke is all. made to make me look dumb
I don't think singing 30 seconds of Rick Astley live on stage during a charity stream is going to cause any copyright issues.
These memes jokes and puns are the best keep them up LOL
Does anyone else think they should start implementing input display for GDQ?
Why? If you go to the majority of streamers speed running a game on their own stream they have an input display
Wait so why is the crowd yelling random stuff at times?
They were counting down by the thousands unti 2 million
CHEEEEEHOOOOOOOO!
CHEEEE HOOOOOOO!
I know it's a Speedrun, but it still feels bad to see you skip the cutscenes. This game has some sick cutscenes
And if you got your bombs early, you can bat him even faster. But I don't think it makes the overall game play faster.
How do you get your loading screens to load so fast. It takes me about 5 minutes to load anytime I transport anywhere. I have the game running off the micro-sd card. Does running off the console memory or a game cartridge load faster?
the virtual version is faster than the cartridge
micro SDs load slower than having the game on the actual internal storage
so... no morph ball bomb early in speedruns?
So anyone knows why in 2:24 entering the room and insta talking to adam? Like, Samus need to walk on the center of the room to start talking to adam right ?
this is the first ADAM discussion so there's a cutscene coming into that part. you can skip cutscenes when you beat the game
yeaaah
