Released in February 2004, Metroid Zero Mission replaces the original 1986 Metroid in the Metroid universe as a "retelling" of that chapter in Samus's history. At this past Awesome Games Done Quick, $1,025,000 was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. It only took a week of continuous streaming, 18,000 donors, and many many runners to achieve. A big thanks to everyone responsible for these amazing numbers, what a humbling achievement. For comparison, last year's event raised just under $500,000.

Quite possibly the most underrated run in the entire marathon. Dragondarch is a beast.
Yes, he definitely is a master of this game, I'm not even close to being as good as him and I've played Zero Mission since it came out.

I remember it taking every fiber of my being to claw through Hard mode at 15%... These Metroid runners always bring such technique and mastery to their playthroughs, and it's always a joy to watch. Keep up the fine work.

Tourian used to terrify me as a kid. I sat in the elevator room for about 10 minutes I was so terrified.

@@jjc4924 My favorite 2-D metroid only for me. No moon jump, no computer talking, best wall jump, best shinespark and a lot of freedom. Too bad the soundtrack and ambience sucks, or it might have been my favorite Metroid game.
Wow, this has been the best run I've seen since zoast did the baby metroid glitch near the end of super metroid. This guy is bad ass.

I remember trying to low percent this game ages ago - also exactly how long it took before I gave up. Without a route I just made it to Ridley - after countless deaths - and gave up on him. So watching this is really awesome. Always amazing to watch a master going at it.
I was watching in complete an utter awe over his skills. This is a fantastic run. I've tried many a time to defeat Ridley to no avail.
Holy shit, PB *AND* an RTA world record on his first try at a live marathon? That's just amazing. Especially when just completing this challenge at all would be extremely difficult no matter how slow you took it--doing it in less than 70 minutes is just insane.

SaltyWaffles It's a 2D game AND you can freeze your enemies. Nice run but it can't be that hard to complete from what ive seen. The only challenge is knowing where to go
steven Claessen Being 2D doesn't mean anything, neither does being able to freeze enemies in the end parts of the game.
Till you've played it you don't know how hard it is.
He's doing low% on hard mode which means he's taking 40 damage from most enemies with only a max health by the end of 200 HP.
Freezing enemies only happens on the latter quarter/half of the game and it isn't that useful except for the Metroids which require it for which he has to calculate every move he makes due to how low his ammo is.
He's still taking tons of damage from anything with a hitbox so just a few shots could finish him off even when he's fully powered up.
Knowing where to go is the least of his problems.
Some people shouldn't speak without knowing what they're talking about.
Then again, some people simply shouldn't speak.

During the Ridley battle, I noticed some of the people in the crowd and especially the guy sitting on the left in the front couch looked COMPLETELY frozen.

This and the 4 person Super Metroid race are the most intense speedruns I've watched so far.
Doing this Hard run years ago on my GBA, raging and going to GameFAQS constantly...I watch this run and totally dig it so much more. What he pulled off took me so many hours: the wall jumps, the bosses with limited missiles, the bomb jumps, avoiding so many pick ups right in your way, and ultimately doing the entire last segment without your suit and the final part where you gotta pull off two boss fights while avoiding getting OHKO. Much respect!
I did not recognize Kirbymastah until he started talking. It's the shades.

I thought the commentary was interesting and Kirb did a great job explaining everything and making it interesing. And I don't know where the fuck are people getting this constant "cut-in front of everyone" from. He very clearly stops when someone is talking. Great job to you as well.

I love metroid, my favorite game series... but I'd never be able to do any of these speed running tricks consistently in my lifetime. This is really impressive.
I remember someone saying that Dragondarch sounds very irritated and angry during this run and no wonder! It's fucking brutal. Loved the Ridley fight, hitboxes OP.

There's an accessory called the Game Boy Player that attaches to the bottom of the Gamecube. (Make sure you get the corresponding Game Boy Player disc too - that's needed for the GCN to read the GBA cart!)
