      My biggest issue now is cleaning the grime on cupboard doors in our 20 year old kitchen.. mostly from sticky or greasy fingers around the knobs and the occasional dribbles down the face of the cupboard doors without destroying the finish. Suggestions?

      @@TheRealSusanNelson Try spraying WD 40 on a cloth rub it over the greasy spots let it set for a period of time to loosen up the grime you wash it off, if it is real bad you may have to repeat this, don't be in a hurry as you have to give it time to penetrate loosen the dirt, it won't do any damage.

    cleaning tip to clean the fridge: instead of planing an afternoon dedicated to clean the fridge and having to scrub and sweat, every day I put one piece with the dishes in the dishwasher and wipe only the area next to that shelf or drawer in the fridge. This is along the same lines as disinfectants in a laboratory for cell culture, or in medical settings. I used to be a molecular biologist, and people would ask why 70% ethanol or isopropyl alcohol is better than 100%, but it's because of dwell time. Alcohol evaporates very quickly, but the thing you're disinfecting needs to sit in that alcohol for at least 10 minutes to become sterile, so the dilution with water keeps it liquid longer so it can do its job. If it evaporates right away, the bacteria and yeast get to live.

    • @Treegona
      @Treegona ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always learned that it's because certain microbes will respond to certain extreme conditions by going into a self-preservation mode, which improves their survivability. Slightly lower alcohol content increases the time you need, but is less likely to trigger hibernation mode, so it's more effective in the long run.

      I use alcohol in my laundry of white clothing with my powered Tide. You will not believe how lovely white your white clothing will be, of course I always use cold water because warm hot water sets stains. I never use the amount of soap power that they recommend because you will get a build up of soap in your clothes which makes them stiff not soft. I never use softener in my clothes. I buy the alcohol at the dollar store it is cheaper. I am fussy about my laundry. I want my whites to be white I don't want my clothes to be stiff as boards. I like nice soft clothing without the softener added to build up in your clothes a waste of money not good for the environment.

      Thank you for the information I did not realize this that in order for the alcohol to disinfect that it had to set for at least 10 minutes to be sterile. I like using home remedies as much as possible they work great healthier to use for health than the cleansers you buy.

    The laziest, I mean easiest, way I’ve found to clean my tomato sauce etc stained microwave is to remove the circular plate and stand under it (wash those in the sink), put a bowl of plain water in the microwave on high for ten mins, and leave it alone, door closed, till the water has cooled down (30 mins is fine). The steam will soften all the gunk, so you just need to wipe it up.

Tie it on to the faucet with either a twist tie or rubber band. Leave over night. This also works on shower heads that are clogged up with minerals and spitting out every which way. My cleaning supplies are stored in dishpans that I keep on a little cart in the laundry room. When it's time to clean, I wheel the cart out and have everything handy so I can make good use of my time. Cleaning products, clean cloths, trash bag, etc. are all right on that little cart and my cleaning time has been cut to less than half. Having the right tools in good working order is half the battle.

    My best cleaning tip to get a streak free mirror, turn off the lights, put the product on the mirror cloth and wipe the mirror. The heat from the lights makes the mirror cleaner dry on the mirror leaving streaks. Also, I learned to do 20 minutes of cleaning and take a 10 minute break. It helps keep my home looking good throughout the week instead of having to marathon clean.

    The best tip I ever learned was to spray hydrogen peroxide in the armpit area of stinky shirts as you're loading the washing machine. Hi Melissa my cleaning tip is to reuse Swiffer duster heads cleaning them. Place Swiffer head flat In sink add detergent add water keeping head flat in sink holding down on one end run fingers up and down lightly to loose dirt. Rinse and continue to push suds and dirt out same as washing until water is clear. Press down flattening the head wringing out the water. Do not fold to wring out it ruins the shape. Wring out head by pressing down to flatten getting water out as best as you can. Then shake out which you will fluff the head. Which brings back to the original form as if you just took out of the package. Lay outside or inside on flat surface to dry. 🙂

    My best cleaning tip is for the toilet bowl. If the water level is always in your way while you are trying to clean the evil pink ring, pour a bucket of water into the bowl up to the lid. All the excess water will cause the toilet to flush automatically, but it will only return a small amt of water back into the bowl at a much lower level. You can then apply your cleaning product and let it dwell. Once you are done, just flush. It will fill back up normally.

      It's what is called "the magic flush" tactic, it's a plumber's secret. An ice bucket worth of water will cause this reaction, or ¾ of a gallon jug. Recommend making a larger opening in the jug top because you have to kind of slosh it right down onto the toilets hole quickly to get it to be effective.

    • @marie34K
      @marie34K ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Won’t work for European toilet bowls. We get very little water in the bowl after flushing . Plus our toilets don’t flush automatically . We have to put gloves on , take water out of the bowl with a small jar ( will be thrown afterwards ) and when empty use whatever you feel will do the job . Then flush of course . Not pleasant but necessary .

    • @HeatherLovesLife
      @HeatherLovesLife ปีที่แล้ว +37

      If there was an issue at the water line in the bowl, I would turn off the water supply, flush, then apply the applicable cleaning agent for the specific swell time (per label instructions), then scrub as needed. By turning off the water, the bowl won’t refill, so you can clean the area below the water line in the bowl. Once done cleaning, turn water supply back on & the bowl will refill.

    One of my first jobs was as a dishwasher in a restaurant. One of my duties was to clean the kitchen floor at the end of the day. The owner told me to use the mop to get the floor good and wet, then let it sit for several minutes, to let the cleaner work, then squeeze out the mop as best I could, and use it to mop up. No matter how dirty that floor got during the day, cleaning it following the bosses' order worked like magic.

    Since we don't have room in the kitchen for a dishwasher I always do the dishes by hand. I always air dry my dishes but never have any water spots. When I fill my sink, I use the highest water temperature possible, I add my detergent AND a tablespoon of cleaning vinegar to my wash water. I wash the dishes a few at a time and put them into the rinse sink and don't let the soapy water dry on them. Rinse them, again with the hottest temperature of water and move them to the drain board. The high heat and vinegar will make the dishes dry quickly and keep them from getting spots. My other tip is, if you have raw egg on a dish, rinse it off with cold water before putting into hot water. Hot water will cook the egg onto the dish and you'll have to work harder to get it off.

For some reason I thought I had to use the commercial toilet bowl cleaners that are industrial strength cleaners, harsh and filled with bleach etc. in order to have a clean toilet. Now, if you are cleaning out your toilet 2 or 3 times a week, your toilet is already pretty clean and you are performing maintenance at that point. I've switched over to a spray down, top to bottom of DIY Dawn powerwash and it is easy-peasy and much less harsh than the other stuff.

    I usually use water as my dwell time. So I spray down all the surfaces with water and let it set for a bit. When I come back and wipe away the water, all the sitting dirt is removed. I do this to my tables, counters, stove top, etc. when heavy duty cleaners are NOT required. It works like a charm. If you have greasy oils on surfaces, you can actually use tea. So rather than throwing away your used tea bags, I just pop a few old tea bags to make a brew and use it for cleaning purposes. Make sure you don’t add cream or sweeteners to the tea bags though. But be warned, the tea will stain your towels so use a darker towel to hide the stains. Tea is good for cleaning windows as well. In Hong Kong, they use this method to clean windows and they use newspaper to wipe the so you can throw those out afterwards and not worry about using cloths or towels.

    I use a swifter mop with a microfiber wrapped around it to clean the tall mirrors in the bathroom, I use Dawn power spray, which keeps steam off mirrors. Don't forget to clean your walls, you wouldn't believe how much dirt they collect. Wash your baseboards with your mop while you're mopping. Wash your pillows, vacuum and steam your mattress once a month.

    To clean a Heavily Soiled Surface like a stovetop or a counter I use a paper towel dampened with water or product, apply product Directly to the area then cover it with the wet paper towel to keep it from drying out, most of the time, the towel absorbs most of the stain / spill and the rest can be removed by rubbing with the same towel. Using disposable drip pans or a removable cleanable liner under the burners can be a big help too. Salt makes a great scrubbing compound that won’t scratch many surfaces and has pretty good cleaning power.

    • @danieldiercks2110

      Two days ago I cleaned my 91 year old mothers home. She had not vacuumed in months. I vacuumed every day and totally declutter the home and the amount of dust I picked up was incredible. I then cleaned every nicknack that was 15-20 feet off the ground and and soaked it in water using good judgement on things I could not do and of course used a microfiber rag. After two weeks I used a rug doctor on the carpet. The carpet is almost whit in color but badly stained. I proceeded with the steam cleaning with just water and concentrated on the areas that had the most spots or traffic dirt. I was very surprised how much soap was in the carpet from someone who did her carpet years ago. Makes sense a magnet to dirt. I made overlapping passes different angles and made many dry passes. Bottom line. All spots were removed with no soap at all. In the past I used boiling water, put it in a bucket and then in the machine. By the time it reaches the hoses the temperature goes down but the heat helps clean better along with suction and time spent on trouble areas A thing to note. The kitchen floor was very sticky after my job. Reason: Over the years the carpet has had a lot of buildup of soap residue. Do not waste your money on using a lot of soap and test with HOT water and carpets with a very good vacuuming routine can resurrect even a very old worn out carpet even when it is almost dry

    Don't clean alone! Cleaning is not a one person job (unless you live alone). If you have small kids, let them help you clean! Give them chores appropriate to their age. You have to wait several years for this to pay off but it will! Everyone who is capable of making messes is also capable of helping to clean those messes. Even infants. If they are old enough to hold something, they can hold their dirty diaper while you carry them to the trash. Don't clean alone!

      simple answer, no it isnt.. you cant desinfect with just one swipe of a silver cloth.. but its true, silver itself is a desinfectant.. but its mostly used for medical purposes or sometimes you will find small silver strains weaved into a matress because it kills the bacteria.
      Get yourself the good old microfiber cloth and mix rubbing alcohol with water and a drop of dishsoap.. it will work way better than any silver cloth.

    Hard water shower clean on glass: hydrochloric acid (eats stone in 3 seconds). White clothes made of cotton: chlorine (whiten clothes in 30 min) afterwards a lot of washing in water alone, then use some product and heat to remove the residues of chlorine. Dark clothes: put some vinegar instead of softener while washing. You don't really need to kill all the bacteria in your bathroom... Actually you will make har to yourself, especially if you are not using gloves. Mostly it is an aesthetic choice, and your body is better off if aclimatised with these bacteria in your home. The rest of a house you can either clean with just simple dish soap or any other universal product.

That stuff works on all kinds of stuff, but I noticed that it does take longer on something like acrylic paint, compared to something that's naturally more wet, like fruit juice. Since it's not bleach, it won't remove everything, but I get rashes from a lot of stain removers and detergents, so Sunlight, scent free laundry strips, and oxygen bleach have been my go to things, as well as an all purpose cleaner made locally, which I somehow managed to lose after cleaning a shower with it.
