    I have no idea why is anyone still looking for cleaning advice from anyone else but you. Seriously, it's a waste of time and often lots of money too. Instead, I have vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, lemons, Castile soap or Marseille soap, basic dish soap, cleaning sand and essential oils, laundry detergent and unscented softener (for dog beds purely because they get all static electricity of the entire village!) instead of heaps of cleaning products and I save looooots of money on cleaning. Melissa rules, simple as that.

    As someone who has been in school where a part of it requires training in dyeing, we were told that citric acid (e.g. the thing IN LEMON) could be used to seal in colouring or bleach clothes depending on how it is used. I.e. not something you just want to throw on your clothing unless you actually know what you're doing. Along with the tips mentioned in the video, the best course of action is if you notice the stain right away, rinse it out with lukewarm water and dab it out with a paper towel (do not rub as this will cause the stain to go deeper into the fibre). Then if possible, keep the area damp till you can throw it into the washer. This will prevent the stain from grabbing onto the fabric. Do not tumble dry anything with a stain or you set the stain in.

    I used to clean my pub toilets just after closing. Industrial pine disinfectant measured carefully into buckets of boiling water. I'd pour liberally over and in each toilet, sink and on the flooring then leave overnight with the extraction fan running. In the morning our cleaners could just rinse everything and spot clean. In 10 minutes we had spotlessly clean fresh restrooms and no smell of anything wafting out into the public areas other than a faint smell of pine.

      I really like the stampy things, too! They smell nice and they're kind of pretty. It does get in the way of scrubbing a tiny bit, which I only do once or twice a week, so maybe her theory tracks lol. (she says that the toilet stamps are for people who don't clean their toilets as often as maybe they should, but she says it in a very nonjudgmental way- I just wanted to add context so you don't have to hunt it down, as it's been a month since you wrote this)

    I agree. There is no reason to use 5 things on a laundry stain!
    1. I use straight dish soap and agitate with a very soft toothbrush, before placing in the hamper. I am able to remove 99% of stains!
    2. Peroxide is my best friend when it comes to laundry! I add a bottle to my whites, and got rid of the bleach. No more yellowing over time. I also use in my lights as a brightener. I love it!

      I usually use dawn, but if I really can't get something or it's just a really major stain, I'm naughty and just use my arm and hammer carpet spot spray stuff they make for pet messes, definitely not for delicates but hot damn does it work wonders on tougher working clothes, cuts stains my laundry sprays like Shout never seem to get all the way out.

      I was stupid enough to try this on my bathroom mirror... Huge fail! First of all, the shaving cream was quite expencive, secondly it didn't actually clean the mirror all too well and finally it took forever to wipe it off. I was on my last nerve when I was done and didn't want to even see a bottle of shaving cream ever again.😂😂 Ok, perhaps it helped a little with the mirror fogging after the shower, but that has never bothered me much anyway. I usually go to shower in the morning and eat breakfast afterwards. By the time I go back to the bathroom, the mirror is clear again. 🤷‍♀️

    • @darkshadowrule2952
      @darkshadowrule2952 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tuikkur.5655I just wash my mirror with dish soap. Surprised the crap out of me it was less streaky than windex. (I've heard WD40 as a lifehack to fogproofing your mirror but I've never tried that one) But if you ever are looking to make a mirror fog resistant, I picked up this coating stuff, it's like Lifeproof ceramic coating or something, barely any fog anymore, also really easy to clean now because it removes a lot of friction from the surface so you can just wipe whatever grossness off with whatever towel you got near you and it rarely leaves any marks. Hate saying it's like magic cause that sounds so BS but it's a lifesaver if you got smudgy surfaces or if you just wanna save your arm some energy on scrubbing

    I’m probably going to be in the firing line for this but my other neurodivergent friends may understand why I’m asking….is it ever possible to use a cleaning product meant for use with glass on a surface just to remove dirt? I often bring out bottles of cleaning products I think I need and then find I’ve missed on grabbing the all purpose cleaner due to brain fog. Does another product cover for cleaning? Which ones do NOT work for different surfaces? I.e I assume glass cleaner should never be used on wood. Or would it all just cause damage if not used on the right surface? Cleaning is such a big energy spend I want to be able to take even shorter shortcuts if needed 😅

    • @lilypudd
      @lilypudd 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      A while back I simplified my cleaning products. I started using a mix of dish detergent, rubbing alcohol and water. Yes, that the Dawn spray & wash formula but I found that it makes a great general cleaner. I use it all over my bathroom and kitchen. Then use windex for mirrors & to polish if needed. That way I only have like three cleaners. Simplifying helps with neurodivergence and also saves money too.

    • @Shadowangel691
      @Shadowangel691 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i totally get why you’re asking! long winded answer ahead. i’d say it’s all about knowing your products, as in what ingredients they use to clean, and the surface that you’re dealing with. sometimes using a product specifically for thing X on thing Y may be inefficient or won’t give you the results you’re looking for, or might not clean the surface as well, and other times it might actually damage it. For example, if I spray and wipe an all purpose water+dish soap mix on my quartz counters, it likely won’t damage them, but it does leave a sticky soapy film. so instead i use water + rubbing alcohol + very little dish soap for my counters because it wipes away clean and shiny without that film. i use it on some other surfaces too, but i know it leaves my mirrors streaky so i use a dedicated glass cleaner instead, but i wouldn’t use it on wood in case the rubbing alcohol ruins the finish. products with hydrogen peroxide work great on some surfaces but can discolor others, and some abrasive products may work great on some surfaces but could scratch other ones.

    • @Shadowangel691
      @Shadowangel691 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i also deal with brain fog a lot and i honestly found that switching to gentle homemade cleaning recipes helped a lot, because in most cases, i know that even if i use one product for everything it probably won’t do much damage, and to mitigate that risk even more, i make sure that my “all purpose” mix doesn’t have anything strong in it, but is effective enough that if I were brain foggy, i can use it on my stovetop or in my bathroom with no problems.

    • @katphish30
      @katphish30 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Short winded answer ahead. Most glass cleaners work just fine for basic surface cleaning, just don't use them on wood. If something is too greasy for glass cleaner, you can use a little dish soap.

    I am not a person who uses Tik Tok or Facebook or Twitter. If I am looking for specific content I browse different sites and use common sense before I trust them. If I need cleaning advice I always check out your website first and have always gotten the best results from you. The amount of products and money and water being wasted freaks me out. I have no idea what the ice thing is about (?) If water is run for 5 minutes straight it uses about 15 gallons of water. Like you said waaayyy too much product leads to even more water wasting. I think the toothpaste and shaving cream videos are some of the most strange things I’ve seen. And of course I go back to a previous video with Comet being used on a tiled floor. Lots and lots of Comet and scrubbing. It made me tired to watch it because of how long it takes to remove any cleaner that can leave a little residue, like Comet. Anyway, I really enjoyed watching another video about crazy hacks. Thanks😊

    You put a good amount of ice cubes into a (cool) coffee pot with a decent amount of salt and swirl.

    It took me a while to find a toilet bowl cleaner that didn't have bleach in it! Now live on a septic system so bleach at a minimum as I'm told it's bad for the good organisms. I hadn't thought to use barkeepers friend, as I do now have some of that. Works amazing for the grill. XD
    Also pretty sure people still use vinegar and baking soda because they think the suds and bubbles help with cleaning instead of it just being a chemical reaction that is neutralizing both products.
    I often struggle to find products that don't have bleach in them so any tips for sanitization purposes are totally welcome from anyone who reads this.

    I love bac-out for my pets. But I need something to put in my carpet cleaner if possible. I found 2 spots my cat has decided to go potty. I've been cleaning and spoting, but I just need to clean my carpet. Dog also brought in questionable poop possibility from outside. Again, I cleaned, but I just need to clean the carpet. I would like to have something to just use in the carpet cleaner if possible and get all the carpet. Any suggestions?

    I'm so much more likely to make 1 of your DIY cleaners and add tea tree oil for anti microbial purposes, than to do any of these 'hacks'. Seems like the creators themselves are hacks, in the conman/ snake oil context.

    Actually vinegar + baking soda doesn't just = water. Can't speak to the stain lifting properties, but if I recall correctly from the volcano experiments in grade school, it's water, sodium acetate, and carbon dioxide gas from the reaction of baking soda and vinegar.

    I will argue with you over the baking soda and vinegar mixture. That has worked a lot to get stains out for me. There are some stains that it cleans up better than others. You put it on the object you are cleaning immediately. Once the bubbles are gone, then it is just "glorified water." This mixture used right away has cleaned stains out of my carpet and clothes. On the carpet you let it dry and vacuum it up. Clothes you throw it in the washer.
    I do agree to not use it for everything and that there are better things to use. Adding the lemon is just excessive. Still love your videos and habe learned a lot, especially that after the bubbles disappear with the mixture of baking soda and vinegar, it is just "glorified water."
    Again, thank you so much for your content!

      Zep acidic toilet bowl cleaner can be bought at places like Lowe’s it’s not an everyday cleaner drain most of water from the toilet if very bad pour in and don’t forget under the rim where the water flushes out as build up happens there too. You let it sit then turn back on water to toilet it should pretty much just wipe off. I have extremely hard water and have tried everything this was the only thing I ever found that truly gets rid of bad hard water stains.

    It is the drama that gets me. We are talking about cleaning get to the cleaning. I cleaned for a living, too clean a toilet buy a container of iron out you need in the beginning I would say I tsp if it is stained let it set for hour if its bad after its cleaned stain free you just need to use dish soap. Laundry done in cold water won't set the stain, if you want to whiten up clothes I buy rubbing alcohol at dollar store add about a quarter of a cup along with your soap you will see the difference. I never use the amount of soap it tells you to on the containers it is to much you will get a build up of soap in your clothes. I buy cheap hair spray spray it on a stain when the article is dry let it set until you do your laundry. I know for a fact these things work save you money because they last for some time. I don't believe in wasting money. I always buy my dish detergent in the large jugs pour in smaller container to save money, it is all about saving money as everything has go up .

    Lemon juice would work if he used just that and set it out in the hot sun. I use lemon or citron to remove stains from my son's cloth diapers. But this trick is affordable if you know someone who grows the citrus trees or grow them yourself.
