- When any youtuber talks about the last game for any system they are almost certainly lying to you. Depending on where you live, the last "Master System game" was between 1989 and 1998. But actually there's at least 8 new things for 2022 you can run on your Master System right now. Here they are...

Hi Dudley, Thx for testing this year smspower competition, specially DoTheSame because I'm the coder of the game ;) Some Tips : you can rotate clockwise or anticlockwise (to resolve the picture using less moves and make a better score). If you are lost, you can 'LongPress' on Fire2 to restart level but you loose 20 pts. LongPress on Fire1 for returning to the menu screen. The game and graph parts are finished. I have to wait a little for musics ;) See you
It's very nice, the only reason it's as far down the list as it is, is just that it wasn't a little less complete than some others. Complete with some sound design and you have something you could totally have sold on a cart in 1988 :)
rhianna pratchett also had a hand in writing mirrors edge and heavenly sword :) the charlie higson fact was a surprise though, now all I can hear is swiss tony narrating a dnd campaign...

MasterSystem - such a great system to play and collect for 👍
It's one of the sweet spots, there's very few unicorns in the list. And most of them are at least great games.

Deathtrap Dungeon took me back. I even wrote my own mini-version of it for a short story assignment at school. Haven't thought about it in ages.

@@Yesterzine I’d be lying if I said could remember lol. It’s been about 28 years. All I recall is that my friends were impressed, which was some appreciated encouragement at that age.

It's incredible what people are doing, I hear Green Beret may be finished off and get a cart release for which I am absolutely there.

Yeah, 3 that could genuinely become commercial games with not THAT much work and a couple more than are the seeds of one.
After the machines rise up and all modern computers are banned we'll still be seeing MasterSastem games

Such a nice video. This channel deserves a lot of attention. And the games are really interesting too, even though I knew the Green Beret Remake before. Anyway, I wrote an article presenting the SMS Power Coding 2022 winners and embedded this video on it. I'll watch the vídeo about the earlier contest too asap.
It's lovely to be able to cover these, I'm in awe that people are able to create stuff 25 years later and often better than the majority of releases.

Try to take a look at the MSXdev'22 results too, since this was the first year that they allowed MSX2 games.
Yeah sms is my thing but I really want to try and pull in some of the other new games on old systems scene because it's all just lovely.

I don't see why that shouldn't work but you're adding another layer of abstraction to how they were written. Worth reporting any bugs if you do find them though.

They're not too bad to buy really compared to some other old consoles, although it depends where you live. An SMS 2 has worse video output but they can be had on ebay and game prices aren't silly in the main. That said, no-one is going to judge you for emulation, grab you Kega Fusion, Meka or even just launchbox+retroarch and get mastersysteming :)

I know it's semantics, but the correct phrase for those last games should be "last officially released and licensed game." We all know what they're saying, which is why people just say something like "last game" for a console.
Also, I wish the SMS was more loved on this side of the pond. Us Yanks are twats for not giving the Master System proper love; even the Game Gear has been forgotten to time.
Yeah, last game is incredibly malleable. It's a different SMS game in Japan, the US, the UK, the rest of the EU and Brazil.
And that's just what I know of. tbh, the lie thing is a bit "clickbait" but it's a nice intro into the fact people are still doing this stuff.
never heard the term caravan shooter before, doesnt seem like something that would need defining as its own subset of shmup if all that differentiates it is the timer

I wish someone would hack/mod Power Strike to include the first stage and cutscenes from the MSX version.
I wonder how easy that kind of change would be, on a pure power basis if the MSX can do it, the MS would walk it.
@@Yesterzine Yes, it would be interesting to see. I was thinking along the same lines about the SMS being able to do it.
@@Yesterzine Aleste is for the MSX2, and the intro has 256-color graphics. While doable on the SMS, some compromises would have to be made.
The Tetris game gear homebrew will work on master system albeit less colours. Just rename the .gg to .sms ok
Oh that's interesting, I'll have to give that a try. How many colours can Tetris need anyway?

Actually you really did lie: the last PAL Master System game was Smurfs Travel the World. 😉
If we're doing this, the last PAL one is that Mickey game in Brazil. The last EU is indeed Smurfs 2 but the last UK is indeed Cheese cat. :)

Fact is tricky but we're pretty sure at this point neither Smurf officially made the UK. Knowing is tricky, Carmen Sandiago never made the UK but was grey imported in such quantities that it's not even rare here.
@@Yesterzine The original Smurfs game definitely got a UK release, Sega Retro says that.

Yeah, "Last thing Sega cared to licence". Bomber Raid in Japan, Sonic in America, Cheese Cat'Astrophe in the UK, Smurfs tour the world in most of europe and Legend of Illusion in Brazil is I think the list.

Hi chap! Green Beret was stonking work, you’ve got every chance of another win! I wasn’t super familiar with the game and surviving comparison with the arcade is impressive.
