    Great to see the two crew back a the truck. I'm also delighted to hear that Brent will be calling and making his effort. I just admire the guy. Introduced to his channel through yourself Karl, when he had the unfortunate fire issues. I now look forward to his video's the guy is just so down to earth, if something goes wrong he just shrugs if off. Also laughing, smiles and often doesn't know what he is doing or if it doesn't work out. Great channels guys thank you all for the efforts. Come Back Soon.

    Great video. Spectacular job on the shocks and mounts. Love the attitude and laughs. Look forward to seeing this project evolve. Been watching you and Brent, with Esther, working on this truck before. Excited to see Brent and Esther back in your shop again. And then see you with the truck at Halfass Kustoms. Gonna be great. Be safe and stay well.

    Watching you how you attack any problems, made me want to try at metal sheeting a project of mine. I'm recreating the 1:5 scale of the truck used for a real truck used in a cartoon. It was supposed to be a certain weight but since I wanted it to be fully functional, I have 2 set of shocks in the rear.
    Learned a lot from you. Kudos my friend.

    I'll probably never do any actual metal fab work... But, this is by far one of my favorite channels to watch! I love seeing the progress more than just the finshed product.
    As to the haters... Sometimes you have to float from project to project, because your waiting on parts or other projects need something done with a different deadline or you have the ability to do something difficult on a certain project because you have extra help coming in unexpectedly.

    Yes, sir like all skill sets it takes practice to get efficient with a cutting torch. And I will say this, many people go straight to mig welding for example in learning how to weld, but the first step should be oxy-acetylene gas welding and brazing in order to understand the basic welding process, and of course learning to use a cutting torch is a handy skill. But like all skills if one does not use those skills then one gets rusty. Like others I have graduated from using a cutting torch and when I do my coordination is off and I find it difficult to cut straight. But your assessment about a torch is correct and it is still a basic tool to have. The best investment in tools that I have ever made is when I bought an oxy-acetylene set-up.

      Agree. Maybe need a gusset back to the chassis rail somehow to transmit the load from the shocks into the chassis, otherwise might bend the square tube over time. Other than that, great work Karl!

      It's a shock mount, not a spring mount. Not carrying the load, just eliminating the rebound.

    This is the problem with current day manufacturers. You spend YOUR money to buy a product from them, you plug it in... nope! First you have to log into the manufacturers servers and download some "update" before it will work that will periodically require you to "update" it some more and will refuse to work otherwise.
    That means, YOU don't own the product that YOU PAID MONEY to OWN.
    It's you that's receiving the "up date". They don't even kiss you first.

      Just a quick note on your parts tumbler, throw all your consumed cutting discs, flap wheels, rolocks, and other abrasives in there with the parts. It will give a nicer finish and give more life to your consumables, saves time, money and produces better results. I enjoy watching what you do and how you do it!

  • @TgWags69
    @TgWags69 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    That lower mount seems to be the week link. You should make sone bushings and weld them in solid. This will help keep the downward force and hammering of the suspension from compressing those large holes you cut in for socket clearance. This will allow the lower face to be in compression to resist the tension loads of the upper face. Either that or weld an angle brace to the side.

    Great that your getting back into the build on the the ramp truck . It's been a little while . I'm sure a lot of others will say that with these builds it's a balance of time and finance , not everyone has a bottomless pit or bank account to pay for it all and I guess in the interim time that we don't see anything off it your running the business .looking forwards to more builds Karl

    On construction we use a scarfing tip to cut welds off. It's curved so it doesn't dig into the parent metal.

    From Mississauga, Ontario. When I need to create brackets I am forced to use cut off wheels and grinders. It is a task to make them in small batches and still have them be identical. I envy those men that have computer controlled cutting capability. Great video. When you drive the ramp truck to Saskatchewan, how about overshooting all the way to Mississauga. KBC Tools in Mississauga would be a great destination.

    Glade to see you back on the COE project. I know I am old school, but I just can't understand why a saw would need a computer, software updates, and a password. I like the variable speed and constant torque drive, but I would want it to work with the flip of a switch whenever I need to use it.

    Hey Karl I really enjoy your channel. I have a little tip for you. Where you install bolts on a vehicle or aircraft vertical bolts go from top down with nut on bottom. Horizontal bolts go from front to back with nut to the rear.

    • @markhansen8253
      @markhansen8253 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why do you do vertical bolt with nut down? On communication towers we
      Put nut up, so if It come loose you see open hole and it’s obvious.

    Great work and explanations of what you're doing as always Karl. I am curious though, why didn't you use a tab and slot style of design for the shock mount? Seemed like trying to keep all the plates in alignment was a bit finicky. Adding tabs and slots should make it easier to keep everything in place. Keep up the good work looking forward to the next installment.

    The Ford F- series trucks used the same upper front mount for many years. You can buy them (or could) directly from Ford. Last ones I got were under $20 each.
    They don't look as cool, but are perfect for that OEM look.
    They are also wider at the bottom for lots of room for axle articulation.

Just food for thought even though the tube is 1/4 wall maybe with both those shocks hammering up and down on it may lossen the bolts.Would it be advantaious to weld some spaces within the tube and install longer bolts through the works. Maybe not but keep an eye on it be simple fix later.

    I gotta admit I was surprised at first how often you used a torch vs plasma or cutoff wheel. Not anymore. Your torch skills are with out a doubt excellent. Some of your cuts have looked cleaner and a whole lot straighter than anything i have done with wheel or cut off. I'm more used to using a torch on the farm to heat up stuck on hardware or cut up thicker metal. Its been a pleasure watching you work metal. Thank you.
