Best cheap 7 seater SUV in Australia? 2024 Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max review

- This is the biggest Chery SUV yet.
It's the Tiggo 8 Pro Max, a 3 row SUV with a focus on value. With pricing starting at just $41,990 driveaway, it certainly delivers on that.
The are three grades available, and front- or all-wheel drive, too. All versions are powered by a punchy 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine.
There's a heap of great tech, loads of safety gear, and some impressive stuff inside and out. But there are some things that might annoy you, and others that could rule it out for you and your family.
So is this 7 seater alternative to the Mahindra XUV700, Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander, Kia Sorento, Toyota Kluger, Skoda Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace worth considering...?

Finally somebody offering a built in dash cam.
Yep. There’s also Tesla with Sentry, and BMW has a Drive Recorder too.
Lots of brands are adding USB ports up near the mirror for cleaner dash cam setups, too.
This has been in South Africa for a while now. It is so amazing. Consider the fact that a 7 seat GLB from Mercedes with all these features cost double. I had a GLB for a short while and honestly the Chery has better build and material quality than the Merc. I am so glad these cars exist. It shows how overpriced everything else is and how old car brands are ripping us off. The GLB is nowhere near 2 times the car of this Chery and the Chery is actually better in several ways. Love this car to bits.
In SA 🇿🇦 the honda crv 1.5T front wheel drive is a quarter more expensive than the chery tiggo 8 pro max awd
Chery pricing from R600 000 for the 1.6t to R740 000 for the 2.0t awd while honda crv cost from R960 000 to R1 020 000 all models are a 1.5t non hybrid fwd.
Remember we have chery tiggo 8 Pro and tiggo 8 pro max
Australia just received their first
Hi Matt. Addicted to your reviews, good job! The Skoda Kodiaq 7 seats and 4x4. Yes it’s at the end of its life span but it’s still a goodie..
Thanks mate! I’m sure there’s an ointment for that addiction!
@@therightcar 🤣 👍🏻
In South Africa both the mitsubishi outlander and the nissan xtrail are more expensive in their base model compared to the top spec awd chery tiggo 8 pro max.
cause SA T8 have many version
I really enjoy your reviews, Matt, and that you cover so many things relevant to an owner. It's a handsome car and though I'd never use the full seven seats - does anybody? The nearest I've seen is 3 baby seats in an Odyssey many years ago - it offers some airy, comfortable accommodation for 4 or 5 people plus luggage. And I agree about the Mercedes overtones inside. Since you mention warranty, maybe a quick review of the T&Cs might be enlightening: the Outlander for example, with the "10-year" warranty, has only a 12-month cover for the shock absorbers and other things besides them. Clearly, there are warranties, and then there are _warranties._ The Chery seems to offer pretty good coverage in that regard. And though it isn't so frugal as some of its non-Chinese competitors, it offers terrific value for money.
Hi, can you try to give more detail reviews on the adas/dms system subsequently? In some, lane centring, lane assist etc don’t work well. I thought you were going to review them better in this video.
How does driver monitoring work when wearing sunnies ?
I am from South Africa I am thinking of buying one in September this year
Chery tiggo 8 Pro max is the cheapest Morden luxury SUV in South Africa 🇿🇦
Hey Matt, do you have any plan to review BYD’s Sealion 6 any time soon. I’m keen to know more about its performance and reliability on the real world . Cheers
From the prelim reviews so far (they all remark about the refinement and silence even in ICE mode), the Sea Lion 6 NVH appears class leading. And it's not just road noise sound insulation but engine noise suppression as well. I am buying one no doubt.
Hi Matt, which tyre spec and brand will you prefer?
The problem with most of all the Mahindra, and to a lesser extent but still significant; Mitsubishi and Nissan competitors... is their interiors feel like a cheaper older interiors with cheaper older bits tarted up to look like a newer fancier car. Cherry and most of the Chinese brands have significantly nicer and more refined interiors that look and feel like they were initially designed to be as they are. What gives me pause is their drivetrain reliability over the long run....
...Though older Great Wall utes from 10+ years ago seem to hold up well into the six figures of km.... engines have changed a lot since then, and I do have this worry with many newer cars and utes; including some japanese ones these days, Also theres geopolitics, even if companies like Chery want to take care of their customers long term, what if Canberra is ordered by the yanks to get into a tariff spat with China that forces chinese brands out? We need a bigger car for our family, but so many caveats, both real and possible. 😅
Toyota even buy Chery's engine, don't worry
The fact that Chery gives a 10 year warranty on their engines gives confidence on their cars....
On the surface the Chery is a good buy for the price, only unknown is long term reliability
Oowaah sunny melbourne arvo. A very rare sight!
Sounds like a mobile phone model....
literally sound translate from the Chinese pronounciation , Qi Rui. 奇,瑞。 rare/wonder, propitious/luck。
Was thinking the same 😂
@therightcar would you buy a LDV D90, Haval H6, Mahindra XUV 700 or Cherry Tiggo 8? Let's say all of them in entry level. Do not take size or amount of seats in consideration please. What will you choose?
I’d choose the LDV. It’s a bigger car with more space and a comfy ride, and NO annoying safety tech.
Any other interior option other than black is a tick in my books!
I’m really keen to see the Tiggo 9!
2025, you will 😇
next year
Is there going to be a hybrid variant in the near future?
The tiggo 8 pro phev has been on sale for two years in china
Check out tiggo 9 pro
Why the LDV D90 and the Rexton would not be comparables?
On price, yes. But they are both much much larger vehicles and probably better suited to full-time 7 seat use if that’s what you need.

Reliability wise how does it compare to Rexton?
Rexton will be more reliable, no question.
@@alexaescht haha, from a company that went bankrupt 3 times in 10 years no doubt.
Do they have Hybrid as well?
yes,chery fulwin t9
I thought you were going to mention the DCT during the drive of did I miss something? Anything Chinese has to be viewed with long term reliability in mind.
Not enough badges on the back ... very disappointed.🙃
$21 per 100km! Hmmmmm yeah not cheap to run. Purchase price isn't too bad though for what you get I guess.
Also, there IS a spot under the floor to store the cargo cover on some versions. Seems this one has other stuff there. Strange. The South African one has a spot for it. You keep saying good for the money, yet it is good period. The faux leather in a Mercedes feels terrible in comparison to the Chery's version. When you talk about the drive, what are you comparing it to? It drives better than the other 7 seat competiton especially the overpriced crappy X Trail with its horrible drony drivetrain.
what bugs me is your review doesn't even mention the 10 speaker system wihich might be just as important for some people.
Calm down mate. You found out about it, so I’m sure others will.
Pretty dull exterior design, bad rear looking mirror, and absence of air bag for the 3rd roll. That’s a no go for many sensible buyers
Sorento and Santa Fe don't have 3rd row airbags 😅
Most people that buy these 7 seaters never use the 3rd row.😊
Rexton mate
This would be comparable to CRV but not a Rexton.
Correct. Rexton is a bigger rig and has proper 4x4 underpinnings.

Talk about being nitpick and overly critical.. is this a review ?
LOL you do know the definition of review, right?
I'd choose a Outlander.
Fair enough!
Thought Chinese cars where junk .... these days in throwing away most stuff after a normal use by date might just be smart.
In all fairness , almost all vehicles are becoming junky because of all the unnecessary stuff they're adding 😅😂
@wosamosman9814
Especially in my opinion, the so called safty features that tug at the wheel and slam the breaks on for no apparent reason.
Waste of time watching this video
No-one forced you to.
It’s really a 4 seat and cannot tow. Loathe the car watching me and Chinese tech is notorious for collecting data and sharing it with China. Not a chance in hell I’d touch one of these.
Yeahh another western propaganda, i don’t mind China collect my data, Google, facebook and other already do it decades ago.
Can you even backup your own bs?
@@milkoowen6800 Like America isn't collecting yours now? Get a life. You spew anti-China hate. Clearly you don't really even know.
My data is being collected and shared to China Japan Korea Australia Russia USA UK ………. Not a chance, I’ll just die
@@milkoowen6800 do your own research. I've done mine.
Imagine your mates asking what you drive, and you said a Chery Tiggo, how embarrassing it sounds like a cocktail in a gay bar.😊
Chinese DCT, no thanks. Please get rid of them, even a crapy CVT, but preferably a conventional auto.
they use getrag gearbox and the likes of Havel and MG haven't had the issues experienced by VW and ford
@@robertceroli3512 The shift quality is terrible.
