For a cheapish Chinese brand, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro genuinely looks upscale. The interior design and tech are quite impressive, and the safety and convenience features are on par with Mercedes vehicles costing four times as much. Great job, Chery!
As someone who has owned this car for approx. 2 weeks. With current price ($1.98/Lt its about $95-$110 to fuel up per week. - tthats normal driving highway/urban... Its a pretty decent car so far Some extra stuff he didnt mention. Remote start from keyfob. And can open boot merely by having key in your pocket by standing behind the car. (No hands.) Auto dimming headlights, also the cameras turn on when you drive between 10-15km.... distracting but you get use to it. And helps avoid things.
Back in 2010 my dad had a Chery J5 (one of the ugliest sedans ever made) but it survived a head on collision with a Kudu, protected my dad, my brother in the back seat (wasnt wearing his seatbelt) and myself, all of us walked away with no injuries (including the kudu). If these new Chery SUV's have the same build quality as those old ugly sedans they cant be that bad
My mother had a single vehicle accident in the J11 (also incredibly ugly car) where she had a negative reaction to medication and veered off the road and hit a tree. She sustained no injuries despite the car being a complete write off. The ambos told my step dad they couldn't believe she survived, let alone not sustain a single injury so I must admit I feel the same way as you about the build quality of these cars.
The Tiggo 4 Pro (Which I believe Australia is receiving at some point in the future) has just become the 4th best selling passenger vehicle in South Africa. They're doing exceptionally well here especially considering they launched in mid 2021.
I recently bought the 2024 Tiggo 4 pro Elite Auto. Must say the car is solid and drivers super well. Only 2 flaws I can pick up is: 1. High fuel consumption - average 9L/100km 2. The plastics that you don't necessarily see tend to squeek a little. Prime example of this is in the trunk as well as in the dash console. However this only happens on bumpy roads & higher speed. Overall, a really good value for money car if you don't mind forking out a little more for fuel.
Ofc we want you to do that test again. I dont even wqnna go off road but u do love sewing how capable modern cars are off sealed roads. Its interesting
These Cherry cars are popular in Russia and many Taxi services use them there since western brands have been banned because of sanctions. This video was worth watching just seeing you try to sit in the third row.Amazing how the economy has changed. That's the same price I paid for a Dodge journey brand new. Which surprisingly is still running today.
In your test of the lane keeping, you should have been on a part without that groove in the road. It did not lock on because it seemed like you were driving over 1 line because the camera may have seen that as a line. Then on fuel consumption, my friends have the 1.6 turbo of this one which we get in South Africa. In the beginning, they were averaging around 10.4 l/100kms around town. After about 8000kms the fuel consumption decreased drastically, and they are now averaging 8.4 l/100kms which is excellent.
Awesome review. So jammed packed with features. Perhaps consider producing a reliability index. Or some reliability metric. Totally agree with you about dash cam. If they can do driver monitoring they should be able to do dash cam. How come you don't get into 3rd row via the passenger/curb side? That side also has the 2/3 split.
We got the tiggo 7 pro max ultra. Looked at the Kia Sportage GT and saved the $20,000. LOVE the tiggo. Anyone else notice no ring holder on the key? Yes Chery.. fix this.
10K cheaper than the new CRV with a lot more tech. Rey disappointing fuel economy though, plus having to use 95 fuel , that would kill it for us. Crazy to put a big 2L engine in a car that light. 1.5L turbo would be much more efficient. Love the look of the interior and all the tech
Test drove one today... Punchy engine, soft ride, excellent tech and interior. Difficult to overlook at the price. And it has a full sized spare. Important in South Africa. I prefer it to the 7 as I cannot see the full instrument cluster in the 7, no matter how high I set the steering wheel and seat at lowest. Ride also more plush than the 7. Excellent value cars and the missus very happy with her Tiggo 4. The Chinese can perhaps improve on fuel consumption, the only gripe.
