Feels like there's an aspect of improvisation that is missing from this game. The Postal Dude was just a guy trying to live his life and shit happened to him, and stuff like him having a dedicated piss button or using a cat as a silencer sounded like something a person going postal would do. By this point you would expect stuff like being able to grab rocks and bottles or chase people with a lawnmower, but the game seems stuck in time. Even the visuals are closer to the GTA Trilogy Remaster than a game that would come out today, while Postal 2 looks like a regular 2003 game.
well according to Doom the Doom Guy killed him and somehow his soul lived on until, the then named Doom Slayer found his remains in Doom 2016 along with a mini gun that apparently, he had.
This seems like the sequel that would come out the next year after Postal 2, not 20 years later. Really should have emphasis on physics, more populated homes and shops, let you wreck more havoc. Blow down walls, enhanced dismemberment, more whacky weapons. Create a sandbox that makes it fun to mess around in.
Remember that they are a small team not a AAA one. You go into Postal and you have to expect a janky, unfinished game at launch. Most of the features you mention aren't probably gonna be added or they are but it is gonna take a few patches for them to appear. Just be patient, P2 got updated even way after it's release and you can compare it to the release version of Postal 2 to see that RWS really loves it's community and series, so why wouldn't they do it to P4?
@@ramiel-best-girl I know it's a small team I feel like it should have at least be finished because it was about 20 since postal 2 came out I just feel like it's a missed opportunity It just feels like a cheap knock off
@@ramiel-best-girl Goat Simulator didn't require a big team. This game would clearly be jank regardless, which is okay. It still shows a lack of ambition and evolution over previous titles.
Similar to Kingpin--another janky mess--Postal 2 was a game that I mastered all of the quirks out of it, just because it was so unique and I loved the brutal body damage and little details. That approach isn't for everyone, but once you learn how to work with a weirdly broken game, it can really become a fun, one-of-a-kind experience--granted that the game has unique features on offer.
@@HunterTinsley Kingpin has tons of quirks, punishingly-hard difficulty spikes, and moonlogic scenarios that make it almost impossible to play through the first time without a guide. I guess what I mean is that learning and putting up with all of those things over time as you play-because you love what it does differently-really pays off in the end, because you’ve mastered this poorly designed thing.
To me for the past 15 yrs Postal Dude has sounded like when Homer Simpson wants to audition for Poochie so he records himself saying 'Hey. This is Homer Simpson saying Howdy to all the girls out there in Radio Land' Jon St John makes him sound like Space Ghost
As much as i can tell, RWS does care about this game and their fanbase, considering them bringing back the other Postal voice actors and heavily improving the game with each update. Hey, they been around about 25 years , so that kind of tells us something.
@@Gary_M No worries. Nothing i can exactly do to disapprove that point, the only logic that i have in use currently is that rws has been around a long time and that all games after 2020 are buggy. Good point.
"(Civvie) and (Gman), the two titans of fps" is a psyop created by feds, just leaving this here to warn people. Don't say civillian, g(overnment) man, and "dictators of destruction" in the same sentence. This user is a fed trying to create a sedition plot for suspects to follow in a "honeypot" to collect your data.
Postal 4 still needs a lot of work. Postal 2 had more stuff to explore and more hidden things that I would accidentally stumble upon, it made the game unique.
I liked how Postal 2 and Paradise Lost are smaller. You got around to the thing you wanted to do faster with less downtime and every building you entered has something in it. Edensin just feels empty by comparison.
"This game runs on the Unreal Engine and once again runs like shit" As a developer who works in Unreal Engine, if it runs like shit, it's because the developer didn't optimize the game at all. The same would be true in any other engine with the same lack of effort.
Remember that Postal 2 was bare bones and janky as shit on launch too, before they taped it up and added a whole heaping of new content and made it into the game we know and love today.
Well but to be honest, the AI and physics in Postal 2 were pretty neat. Having fluid physics or seemingly interact with NPCs without having to enter a menu was something pretty impressive for the time.
My take on the POSTAL series: POSTAL 1 was absolutely horrific [in an atmospheric way, which I enjoyed]. POSTAL 2 is a stroke of comedic genius! POSTAL III was buggier than a big bug bugging out in a big dune buggy! POSTAL 4 may be a mess, but it's MY kind of mess!
I think the entire Postal game series is just a circle of Hell built specifically around the Postal Dude, and he’s just accepted an endless time loop of being screwed over, doing chores, and just the chaos that is rural Arizona. But, like I’ve said, he’s just so used to this crazy purgatory that nothing surprises him, and his calm expression and monotone voice fully proves this. Rick Hunter really performs this role well, his voice perfectly captivates a man who’s aware of being in a never-ending purgatory. Or, this is a special circle of hell where *he’s* the punishment.
Back during one of the first few streams RWS did of them playing the early alphas, I asked them if they’d ever do a weekend expansion like they’d done before, and they said it would definitely be something they’d like to do, but they had to finish the main game first. Two year’s later, and here we are. Personally, I think that instead of the weekend being a cobbled together mess of a linear plot, it should have all three Postal Dudes splitting apart, and deciding to kill one another. We then spent Saturday switching between all three dudes, as they set up their master plans to kill the other two, with Sunday having all their plans fail horribly and comedically.
These wound decals literally look like placeholders, the blood is inferior to P2. It's strange that they didn't invest more in the gore department, since we do that a fucking lot in this game.
This is pretty rough to see. Game still looks like it needs a few more years of polish, and it lacks much of the gameplay that made postal 2 good (conflict after finishing missions, a world that's worth exploring for extra loot, etc).
@@JawasRandomStuff this will be fixed over time, performance is important to us, we just need to bring in the console porting team to REALLY help with that.....
RWS realize that Postal Dude getting dragged all the time with fetch odd jobs is literally the same as the Big Lebowski so thats why he's dressed like him in this game.
@@smward87 Wrong. You can tell the devs care about this game they are still updating and patching bugs and apparently once the main game is finished, they'll do a weekend expansion have some faith.
@@MidRankedDeity That's what I said. That they would be working on it forever. I was half-joking based on their track record with Postal 2 which they spent about 20 years patching and making updates for.

I mean the janky alpha was basically a tech demo i couldnt run it even at the lowest settings for a while but eventually they fixed up the graphics and i can play it now and its laggy still but i can actually play it and given more time it will be so much better
I played it when it was in very early jank, put my money down, and haven't touched it since. I don't want to spoil it for myself. Last time I did an early access like this of a game I really liked, it was carmageddon reincarnation, which was great until the very last minute when they repolished it for consoles and took out a lot of the stuff that I liked.
the graphics look like one of those easter european “simulator” games that pop up on steam’s front page every so often. really wish RWS took the art style in a different direction, because this just kinda looks like a unity student project
5:43 - Dextromethorpane is actually quite an intense drug. At higher doses you will have the most amazing trips. Expect fantastic visuals and to even feel gravity pull. I've gone on some cool helicopter rides and riding in cars around corners and felt the g-forces. But along the way of doing it expect some less than comfortable trips. Learning the correct dose for the type of trip you want and dealing with the unpredictability of DXM is definitely not for the faint of heart. Many people give up after just a couple attempts because they don't get the experience they want. But once you finally get that 3rd plateau trip... wow. Remember, DXM is a dissociative. Treat it with respect.
Yeah it was fun until I ended up tripping 8 hours after I took it and had to go to work feeling like I was in a dream looking through a fisheye lens and the awful dissociative state you’re in a day to two after is enough to put most people off of it but still kind of fun if you feel like experimenting lol
@@revalution1965 Yeah, I've had those days too where I had to go to work with after effects. I've never had effects last days though, except being very tired but that was usually only after a few days of heavy use.
Is it just me or did Postal 2 look better too? At least in terms of artistic consistency. Looking at the Dude in 4 vs the rest of 4's population, they don't even look like they're from the same game..
Despite its jankyness and unpolished by intention, one thing I really appreciate Postal series as stress relief tool and massacre fantasy that doesn't care about controversy and agenda.
Postal 2 the game that augmented the "E" key a command to "unzip" your fly. But what made it great you could slaughter of Gary Coleman.(but he was damned tough!)
13:40, it's not even flanderizing of The Dude, it's straight deviating to an extreme. The game gave me weird Goat Simulator vibes with zombie people and lifelessness to everything. Like maybe shell out some for an easier destructible environment and remodeling. It makes the chaos a lot less weighty and impactful when everything is just static. Not asking for Red Faction 3 like environments but at least be at the level your PS2 GAME was.
I wish you had found a first release version of postal 2 to compare what the game first looked like to what it is today, to show us how the development on this game might go
Guys! there is no drama between civvie and Gman its just shitposting I mean Gman wouldn't be australian if he didn't shit post! Civvie also is just poking fun harmlessly. Its banter and thats it.
4:45 Heck, Postal 2 came before Unreal Tournament 2004 whose 2.5 engine added support for vehicles. People'll have to put POSTAL 2 on Unreal 2.5 themselves.
Your "get milk" as a cat mission seems broken. When I picked up the milk, the doors were immediately locked and the store clerk chased me around the store shooting at me until I killed her.
Seems like a pretty easy pass for me. If they can barely improve the game in 20 years that's pretty lame. Postal 2 is a product of it's era and it's got charm to it. This just gives me the vibes of a lame reboot movie like Bill and Ted (Postal 2 being the original). Like if they tried to go forward and give the game it's own identity I'd get behind it but this just seems like it's trying to relive it's past exactly and that just never works.
Ikr? Lot of missing potentials...Imagine a quest like that, you forgot to wear a mask and a fat girl starts screaming at you and people goes bananas shooting down you and have Bill Gates as a boss with a vaccine rocket laucher
For the two pump shotguns at once thing, American here, you can pump two shotguns at once if you anchor the strap loop to your belt, or brace it on your hip. If the action is properly tuned and oiled as well you could just jack rack it like they do in the movies. All of this is super dumb and should not be done as it can hurt your gun and isn’t really safe. But it is in fact possible.
The blood is better in the originals, since the blood splash on the walls and ceiling and drips off the ceiling also. The blood streaks that run down hills lol.theres some great fine details missing in 4.
Just remember, Postal 3 was so bad that Running With Scissors had to make a dlc for Postal 2 to apologize. Postal 4 being a functional game that is fun to play is much, much better. Yeah, I do think that it would take another year or two for the game to be finally a “complete” product.
The problem mentioned around 13:40 is the the same thing that happened to Saints Row and why GTA as a game (versus the stupid microtransactions) has remained pretty popular. SR and SR2 were about gangs with some wild characters, occasionally large and crazy antics but still were somewhat grounded in reality. Dildo bat? Sure why not. But SR3 and on, it's suddenly becoming prez, aliens, and literally heaven vs hell. It just got stupid and unrecognizable. GTA for the most part has remained the same all through out the series. Sure, it'd be unrealistic for a meth addict to break into a military base and just steal military jets and heli's but that's what makes it fun. The sub was fun too. But then you get to reenact pretty real but Hollywood-ized robberies likes the heists, manipulating the stock market, and etc. real mechanics and things, funny/wild execution.
Yeah if this is the result of a 20 years hiatus they should probably give up making games and do something more fitting. It almost feels like they had an idea but got bored and rushed which is usually the case when you make games and spend long times doing the same thing.
20:48 - I wonder if that was done deliberately as a sly nod to the song "Stuart" by the Dead Milkmen. You know that carnival comes into Town every year? Well this year they came through with a ride Called The Mixer. The man said, "Keep your head, and arms, inside The Mixer at all times." But Bill Jr, he was a DAAAREDEVIL, just Like his old man. He was leaning out saying "Hey everybody, Look at me! Look at me!" Pow! He was decapitated! They found His head over by the snow cone concession.
We opened lots of threads regarding the emptiness and barebones interiors, but as usual, early access is not used to listen to feedback but to get that sweet quick cash. Why even have houses when they are empty

well according to Doom the Doom Guy killed him and somehow his soul lived on until, the then named Doom Slayer found his remains in Doom 2016 along with a mini gun that apparently, he had.
Doubt they have a big enough team for that. This isn’t a huge gaming company Rember.
Pretty much all of those are being worked on, and Dismemberment was in there, but isn't fully there now because they're re-doing it for the new NPCs.
It still shows a lack of ambition and evolution over previous titles.
the literal update on Steam for Postal 4 version 1.0 is called "Would be polished, but we got high!".
5 seconds in this video, and he kills a pedestrian 💀
Similar to Kingpin--another janky mess--Postal 2 was a game that I mastered all of the quirks out of it, just because it was so unique and I loved the brutal body damage and little details. That approach isn't for everyone, but once you learn how to work with a weirdly broken game, it can really become a fun, one-of-a-kind experience--granted that the game has unique features on offer.
Kingpin was in a much better state than P2 on release, though.

"This game runs on the Unreal Engine and once again runs like shit"
As a developer who works in Unreal Engine, if it runs like shit, it's because the developer didn't optimize the game at all. The same would be true in any other engine with the same lack of effort.
Remember that Postal 2 was bare bones and janky as shit on launch too, before they taped it up and added a whole heaping of new content and made it into the game we know and love today.
Yeh. Even back then, Postal 2 had its share of problems that I wouldn't be surprised if Postal 4 gets the same treatment in being tweaked and patched.
Postal has never been good by video game standards. The violence, satire, and the nihilistic atmosphere kept people coming back.
Well but to be honest, the AI and physics in Postal 2 were pretty neat. Having fluid physics or seemingly interact with NPCs without having to enter a menu was something pretty impressive for the time.
fuck game standards

My take on the POSTAL series: POSTAL 1 was absolutely horrific [in an atmospheric way, which I enjoyed]. POSTAL 2 is a stroke of comedic genius! POSTAL III was buggier than a big bug bugging out in a big dune buggy! POSTAL 4 may be a mess, but it's MY kind of mess!
there wasn’t a postal 3 wdym
I think the entire Postal game series is just a circle of Hell built specifically around the Postal Dude, and he’s just accepted an endless time loop of being screwed over, doing chores, and just the chaos that is rural Arizona. But, like I’ve said, he’s just so used to this crazy purgatory that nothing surprises him, and his calm expression and monotone voice fully proves this. Rick Hunter really performs this role well, his voice perfectly captivates a man who’s aware of being in a never-ending purgatory. Or, this is a special circle of hell where *he’s* the punishment.
The way you thoughtlessly murdered that woman NPC at the start with such a brutal unprovoked attack disturbed me. Stop it, get some help.
That sounds like a fun idea.
"polish" ? id say the game is in need of Basic competent programming, but hey who cares, it has edgy jokes so the cringe fringe will buy it
I got postal 4 when they only had Monday available, it’s been pretty fun following each update.

Honestly postal 4 felt like a tech demo more than anything, I hope as time goes they add more and make it better

Seems like a pretty easy pass for me. If they can barely improve the game in 20 years that's pretty lame. Postal 2 is a product of it's era and it's got charm to it. This just gives me the vibes of a lame reboot movie like Bill and Ted (Postal 2 being the original). Yet, they were not the ones behind Postal 3
@@durchfaII It was that terrible that an another studio had to make an dlc to remove the stain that Postal 3 left on the franchise.
