Now this is great doowop. This song has all the ingredients. A great lead. Harmony is strong and pitched with nice movement in the background. A great bridge. But the real key is the feeling that only great songs can give and ultimately become hits. But for me personally is the feeling of being in a group which produces " the sound " and the connection with your other teenage friends in the group and those who supported you.. I received this wonderful gift. I have been fortunate to record and there is nothing like it. One of the songs we recorded you can find on youtube. It is entitled Blame my Heart by the Splendids ( a cover of the original song by a group called the Meridians ). Give it a listen. The song can currently be purchased on Colemine Records ( a slight advertisement ).Hope you don't mind. There is a nice comment section like this one when you listen to the song on you tube. Doowop had such a short life span. Sad.
My Thoughts , I listens, Wow. The musie , The feelings, l can't belive it was always there, thank you. For sharing your oldies Diamond girl San Gariel valley, Lomas, oldies,
I hung out with the C- Quins and even hired them for my dances, back in the 60's in Roxbury, Ma., where they originated. Wonderful singers and a great bunch of guys. Johnny Wyche was the lead singer and his looks were just as good as his voice.. A first class bunch of guys. Peace brothers and sisters.
I was living in Providence at the time this came out, and we had a couple of maniac doowop jocks on mainstream radio - Joe Thomas and Chuck Stevens - but the y never played this. The label was from Boston. Bruce Patch later produced Once Upon a Time by Teddy & The Pandas. This is a real treat! Thanks for posting it.
i remember the name Bruce Patch. Skippy White was the go to guy in r& b. I met Skippy when he was a counter clerk for Smiling Jack records on Mass Ave. Skiooy never pretended or showed off. He was the real deal and a quiet guy. i was blessed to know him since I was 13.
Hi Brendan, thanks for your reply. The back up singers for the c-Quins were, Tommy, Sully, and Jardy and of course Johnny sang lead. The coolest, hippest, straight shooters, and elegant bunch of guys that ever got together and sang. I also use to hang with Frankie Anderson of the Alteers. Great group and wonderful guys. Peace, Richie
I wish I had lived where these groups originated. Whoever heard these groups in person were so blessed. Thanks P. J..
Beautiful love ballad. Singer's voice is truly superior. Backing true Doo Wop quality. I can't get over the lead singer's voice it's superb
