Besides the way his tone changes when he says "black" and "transgender", I really don't get why he tried to make a case for Batman only losing one of parents as "ruining" the origin. The Batman community is quite literally known for meme-ing the hell out of Batman's origin (for example "Bruce, it's been 5 years" Part 2) to the point that even Teen Titans Go did the same thing (Robin pushing Batmans's parents into the alleyway to get shot). It got repetitive after all this time so having something different is refreshing. That's why many also liked Flashpoint for example.
Uh. How did a characters origins get “repetitive”? That’s just the origin of Batman. Jokes were made about it because it’s a common known thing, and it’s dark, so it’s funny to make jokes about; not because people were tired of its existence.
@@bababobo5067 it is also meme-ed sometimes as a nod to how overplayed that origin story is in most Batman media (both parents die in a alley, shot). What I do want to say about Barbara Gordon being black now is why? No really, why is she black? Is the idea that she's now an adopted daughter of Commissioner Gordon? I guess that's not a bad idea--but the real question is, and I'll risk sounding a bit racist for saying this, why turn any well established white character into a black character rather than simply creating a brand new character, even have them be loosely based off of a popular character and have them be whatever color or gender you want? I mean, I'd like to think that's what a good amount of writers do anyway. I kind of said this in a comment regarding Mindy Kaling's Velma: I think when you take a very well established and popular white character then turn them black (Velma isn't black, I know) to gain more traction, then you're sort of saying a person of color can't make it big unless they were a race-swap of a popular white character, which isn't even remotely true. But look, I'll admit as a white cis het guy myself, I can be a bit ignorant when it representation in the media. I think a lot of white men are. You could with minimal effort rewrite Batman into a fantasy setting where he is a demon hunter fighting demonic possession and similar.
