It's rare that I listen to a demo video a couple of times just to hear the riffs, but this was one of them. Those speakers sound amazing as a pair, not so much individually.
Already had a Type V in a 112 cab, got a new 212 Montage cab, (excellent) and added the Type A on the strenght of this demo, sounds awesome in a 212 as well, thanks Fluff.
Well, they kinda sound bad on their own (in my opinion), but when they are used together they seem to smooth out a lot of it. They sound like they pair really good, nice chunky bass and smooth highs. Not sure why one would use them separately
Im guessing he had both speakers in one cab and miced them both at the same time (with 57s im guessing or at least 2 of the same mics) to keep the performance the same for the comparison. If so, putting them together cause some phase cancelation in the higher\harsh frequencies while adding a nicer thicker low end to it that is in phase. Using two mics on any speaker correctly regardless if they are 2 different ones or the same one usually results in this happening. At least in my experience.
Great comparison video, Fluff. Mixing different speaker models often has the additional benefit of smoothing out the low-end response, as long as the speakers have different free-air resonant frequencies.
If i had to choose one or the other, I'd have to go with the V type personally, but I'm really digging how they both sound together, and that's what's great about music gear, is that you have that option to use whatever you want to.
Definitely the V type. Its crisp and clear, while the A just sounded super fizzy, and it felt like there was a big frequency hole--but I agree that they sound best when combined.
I have my amp running through 2 1x12s one with a V30 and the other with a G12 50gl. They sound pretty good individually, but together, they sound awesome.
Thank you for this! Currently I was torn between these two for my old 4x12 I was looking to upgrade the speakers. But I am going to go with a combination. Great demo thank you!
Do you think putting a V-type and an A-type together in a vertical 2x12 cab would work well with a CR120H Orange head?... Thinking of building my own cab to save some money.
Hi Ryan , for you, what would be the best guitar speakers mix between the V30, Creamback, Greenback, V type and Type A, in a cabinet 2x12 plywood birch to play the Stoner Doom Sludge ?? Thanks for reply !!!
Let me start by saying both speakers have amazing qualities but the star of that video was you your excellent player and when you play your passion shows through. And you did incredible demoing those speakers for the General Public. Thank you
GREAT demo! Some time ago, I switched out two of the V30s for two K100s in my MESA cab and it made a huge difference in how awesome it sounds. At the time, I tried to decide which speaker sounded "better" but concluded - as here - that it was the combination of the two different speakers that just made it sound kick ass.
I have both. Bought the V first and played it for months with a Laney IronHeart. Great speaker, but after a while my ear started to fixate on a certain nasal quality that the speaker had in high gain settings. I couldn't EQ it out. I bought the A-type and problem solved, but it was slightly muddier than the V-type. I prefer the A-type but both together is ideal.
You never really get to hear a difference in an AB on TH-cam but this one you really can. I think you're spot on about mixing the two although I did like the V slightly more than the A in separation. I'd like to hear this with something running a P90, I really like the snarl.
best comparison video of any kind, kudos on such a sweet presentation. I'd probably pick the V type because I can always remove some highs, hard to add them if the speaker can't play them.
+bkeaneyboy It's actually quite a important step. thou i've had a couple of really cheap china 12" speakers that actually sounded really good and then had some of the same brand that were crap.. it's like microphones.. one 57 and another might not sound the same..
I like the V-Type much more than the A-Type. However the combination of both sure sounds great. Currently I have a 2x12" box with 2 Vintage 30s but I think I will try the WGS Retro 30/ET-65 Combo soon. Think this will work way better for the sound I'm looking for. Also fairly inexpensive.
a really good demo of the two really well shown the differences, and i get to hear an instrumental version of your song, any chance of releasing the instrumental version, even if its after some time for obvious respecting all the band member reasons i really love your rocking riffs
QUESTION FOR FLUFF OR ANY1 AND MAYBE THIS COULD BE A FAQ MONDAY QUESTION, I HAVE 2 BLACKSTAR METAL SERIES 1X12S, IWAS THINKING OF UPGRADING THE SPEAKERS, SHOULD I UPGRADE THE SPEAKERS IN BOTH OR GET A 2X12 CAB? WILL A 2X12 GIVE ME MORE LOW END OR WILL IT BE THE SAME? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRICIATED
Hey Fluff, two part question. 1) with rest, repose why don't you use positive grid live? 2) any tips on using positive grid live with jam up app? Thanks! I hope I make it in an upcoming FAQ Monday's.
Thanks for this informative video Ryan. Do you think the V Type is a good fit for the Blackstar HT 20 combo? I've gone back and forth between the V Type, Neo Creamback, and WGS Reaper. I keep coming back to the V type. I would like to be able to get a nice, chimey clean sound, as well as crunchy hard rock. Thanks in advance for any advice.
By them selves the speakers sound like the frequencys im trying to dial out, together its like knocking a mic back in phase lol. But if i had to choose one or the other V type for recording and A For just jamming by myself but i would rather have both or either application
Best sound is when they're together. My primary 4x12 has Vintage 30's and Classic Lead 80's in an "X" formation and it's by far the best cab I've ever played out of.
Weird, I really like the bite and bark of the V, but like the darkness of the A. The A to me sounds slightly more open, yet a hair fizzier, but the V less open or airy but has a nice bite to it. My two cents.
I am just exploring speakers for tone and sound. This is my video ever hearing these two types of speakers. They sound amazing. I want to add one of these to my practice amp. It's a Line 6 Spider 3 30w. Maybe The V type???
I just wanted to stop and give you a compliment on the new Rest, Repose EP.. It sounds amazing! Going to pick it up on amazon immediately. I hope one day you and your bandmates can find Birmingham, Al.
hey Fluff, I'm thinking of changing the speaker in my 5w valve 1x12 combo to beef it up a bit. I play mainly metal but some other stuff too. would the v type be a good candidate???
Billy Gibson uses a secret pedal, there's a TH-cam video about his "secret pedal". It's a guitar graphic equalizer pedal, he only bumps up the 400 slider. This makes the Celestion V type speaker put out some growl and punch and the speaker sound fuller. Behringer sells one for $25.
This is what I love about fluff, a no bs "This is how it do, make up your own mind" style Together they sound great, but if I had to choose one I would go with the V type
It's rare that I listen to a demo video a couple of times just to hear the riffs, but this was one of them.
Those speakers sound amazing as a pair, not so much individually.
As always Fluff fantastic video. The combo of the A and V type is HUGE!
Together they were great. the bite of the v's with the punchy mid range of the a's made for an excellent tone.
Both > Type A > Type V
Already had a Type V in a 112 cab, got a new 212 Montage cab, (excellent) and added the Type A on the strenght of this demo, sounds awesome in a 212 as well, thanks Fluff.
Well, they kinda sound bad on their own (in my opinion), but when they are used together they seem to smooth out a lot of it.
They sound like they pair really good, nice chunky bass and smooth highs. Not sure why one would use them separately
+Jorgen Wu Yeah I 100% agree.
My thoughts exactly
Davy Coningx The V type sounds AMAZING!
Great comparison video, Fluff.

These two complement each other very well. Every time my ears said YEAH both were on together. Excellent vid Fluff. Cheers!
Definitely the V type. Its crisp and clear, while the A just sounded super fizzy, and it felt like there was a big frequency hole--but I agree that they sound best when combined.
Love that you've put the graphic EQs in there, great vid!
Great sounds but not sure these speakers were designed with metal in mind?
it would be awesome to see a video of more celestions comparisson. Very usefull vid, thank you very much!
That would be absolutely amazing!!!!!
+I predict a catastrophe I would love to see a video about the G12k100!
+Pain QT meeeeeee tooooo!!!
I like them both together (they really complement each other), but if I had to pick one, it'd be V-Type!!
fluff i just saw u fall from ur chair
This is the first time I've watched a comparison thing where there was a distinct difference but I couldn't pick one. I think they both sound so good.
Got a new bassbreaker 30,,,comes with V-Type. waiting on a custom 1x12 as we speak putting an A-Type in that one. Hoping for a similar effect.
V type by itself but both sound great together. make a good team.
They sound great together, but individually I think I like the V type better
I love that prancing rockabilly metal riff in the beginning, is there a full song to it?
excellent video I would like to know how you connect them since they are dr different watts
The combination sounds miles better than the individual ones. Each one has sonic characteristics pretty much complementary to the other's.
V type sounds nice, totally my flavor
what's the extra toggle switch for? it wasnt on there guitar in its own video.
If you had an amp with room for only one 12" speaker which if these would you choose?
I think on it's own I'd choose the V-Type, but together they make an awesome combination.
Do you think putting a V-type and an A-type together in a vertical 2x12 cab would work well with a CR120H Orange head?... Thinking of building my own cab to save some money.
Parabens the video! I heard comments that the V-type has little middle, you did not feel lack of middle ???? Sorry for bad English.
Hi Ryan , for you, what would be the best guitar speakers mix between the V30, Creamback, Greenback, V type and Type A, in a cabinet 2x12 plywood birch to play the Stoner Doom Sludge ?? Thanks for reply !!!
The V outshines the A by a good measure whilst together they fit quite nicely.
Who else sang the actual song while this was playing? :)
It's a song from his band rest repose
He wasn't asking who it was by
+El Manimal Yeaeaaaah...Yeaaahaaeeaaaaaa. whoooowwaaaaa yeaaheaaaheaaa. (there were a few too many yeah's on the EP...)
+El Manimal came down here because i knew this comment was coming
+tockusa works for The Het
Let me start by saying both speakers have amazing qualities but the star of that video was you your excellent player and when you play your passion shows through. And you did incredible demoing those speakers for the General Public. Thank you
Nice to see the 6505. Was recently wondering if you still had one.
You can tell the A Type has a softer attack and feel, especially in lower strings. I bet the v-type would match up well with a creamback too
GREAT demo! Some time ago, I switched out two of the V30s for two K100s in my MESA cab and it made a huge difference in how awesome it sounds. At the time, I tried to decide which speaker sounded "better" but concluded - as here - that it was the combination of the two different speakers that just made it sound kick ass.
This is a really cool way to setup and show a comparison. Well done sir
Hey, thanks for making that video ! it's funny how cabs are so overlooked when it gets to finding "that tone", great comparison video :)
Wow these blend so well together! If I could only choose one, I would have to reluctantly take the A type because I'm not a fan of harsh tones.
I realise this is an old video now, but is anyone running one of each in a 2x12?
This video was very helpful. Keep killing it fluff!
Great vid , I wanna mismatch an a-type with a creamback 65 and can’t find any vids of the drivers together - till now !
You never really get to hear a difference in an AB on TH-cam but this one you really can. I think you're spot on about mixing the two although I did like the V slightly more than the A in separation. I'd like to hear this with something running a P90, I really like the snarl.
have you modified your RD, fluff? i see there's extra switch ...
What's your opinion on the Panama D30 & purpleback speakers?
Would having one of each work well in across the board or is that just more for high gain or a plexi etc
Mission accomplished ...flawless comparison. BOTH sound mighty beefy and snarly.
best comparison video of any kind, kudos on such a sweet presentation. I'd probably pick the V type because I can always remove some highs, hard to add them if the speaker can't play them.
Thanks fluff. I never realized how different speakers sound until this video. Great stuff dude.
+bkeaneyboy It's actually quite a important step. thou i've had a couple of really cheap china 12" speakers that actually sounded really good and then had some of the same brand that were crap.. it's like microphones.. one 57 and another might not sound the same..
+JoeyRockerTV hmmmm. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry for off topic. Please tell me what is it te song in intro?
this combo.... is amazing. both do so well with each.
Great video, but did you ever finish painting that wall?
I they sounded best together, they both have qualities that I liked, but also parts I didn't like, but together they blended and sounded good overall!
Thanks for video! Now i have decided! V-type for my 1x12 cab
I WONDER IF THE A-Type would fit in with a mix with a 75 Creamback better
In my headphones, the "A" has a wider tonal range. What do you think?
*I hate the feeling of reeeeeguuuulaaaariiitey*
It never sat well with meeeeeeeeeee
Have the VT-JR. in My 77’ Peavey Backstage 30 haven’t tested it yet.
I like the V-Type much more than the A-Type. However the combination of both sure sounds great.
Currently I have a 2x12" box with 2 Vintage 30s but I think I will try the WGS Retro 30/ET-65 Combo soon. Think this will work way better for the sound I'm looking for. Also fairly inexpensive.
thanks for sharing! i came here exclusively to read this comment about your expressed feelings of things you wish to achieve.
a really good demo of the two really well shown the differences, and i get to hear an instrumental version of your song, any chance of releasing the instrumental version, even if its after some time for obvious respecting all the band member reasons i really love your rocking riffs

I completely agree with you fluff both is definitely the way to go
What is the second switch on the RD?
Any idea when we might see some previews of you upcoming signature guitar fluff?
It sounds like A has an aggressive mid-range boost, but it seems to lack in top end compared to the V.
Great tone, great song, what's the tuning? Thanks!
Wow they both sound great! I prefer the V-type for the particular song. Great video my man, happy holidays bud!
That is one cool Guitar. Love it man.
Is the intro song re-recorded or just mixed differently? It sounds better to me now.
In agree man Celestion V type, very versatile speaker on clean and crunch get well.congratulations. great comparison and chords of course awesome
off topic, but whateva... could anyone recomand any fine mic for recording voc's in studio ? ;)
I know this is an old video, but which do you prefer for metal...the V-type or the Creamback 65m?
What's those extra switches on your RD?!?!?!?!?!???
Hey Fluff, two part question. 1) with rest, repose why don't you use positive grid live? 2) any tips on using positive grid live with jam up app? Thanks! I hope I make it in an upcoming FAQ Monday's.
When you combined the two together it reminded me of the Creamback 65, still punchy but with the harshness dialled back a bit
Why the cab isn't miced? Was the video filmed after the recording?
+Ryan “Fluff” Bruce oops my mistake, just noticed that
This demo definitely made my decision to pair the two Vintage30 in my RedSeven 4x12 with two A-Type. Thanks a lot, Fluff! 😉🤘
I prefer the A-type by itself. On the other hand, the two combined smooth each other out so well.
Love the videos as always fluff!
Hey Fluff, I would just like to say congratulations on that Sleep City EP. It sounds great :)
How do they sound with the Randall? :D
By them selves the speakers sound like the frequencys im trying to dial out, together its like knocking a mic back in phase lol. But if i had to choose one or the other V type for recording and A For just jamming by myself but i would rather have both or either application

I am just exploring speakers for tone and sound. This is my video ever hearing these two types of speakers. They sound amazing. I want to add one of these to my practice amp. It's a Line 6 Spider 3 30w. Maybe The V type???
Why you went on the sm57 instead of your favorite mic ? ( for got the name ) .
+Ryan “Fluff” Bruce oh ok haha . As for the speakers , I like both of them mix together.
+Some random drummer it sound tight
+Ryan „Fluff“ Bruce Would re-amping not solve this issue easily?
i just bought an A-type 50w pre-owned for my line 6 cab.
I really liked how the mix sounded when you were using both speakers. Cool Vid Fluff.
I thought both sounded great but the V edged it. Both together was the ticket. Esp when you think most won't downtune, so the A may be fizzeh in E.
I just wanted to stop and give you a compliment on the new Rest, Repose EP.. It sounds amazing! Going to pick it up on amazon immediately. I hope one day you and your bandmates can find Birmingham, Al.

This is what I love about fluff, a no bs "This is how it do, make up your own mind" style
Together they sound great, but if I had to choose one I would go with the V type
So, did you keep the speakers in that 4x12? Any chance we'll hear it when you play with the band?
A type is more clear sounding but yeah they sound great together.
that a smooth combination. they match so well together is hard to like pne verse the other. it's similar to GT75 and V30 cross imo
