      In the old days . . each amp and cab has it's own merit . . .now we live with thousands of choices and yet . . . most guitar tone on many many modern metal artists are the same.

      I don’t think MojoTone has anything to do with the Warehouse (WGS) speakers do they? @MojoTone should send Kyle some British V30s though so we can hear that comparison too. I think they similarly take off a little of the top end shrill that Celestion Vintage 30s have.

      @@Professional.Bro.777 Same. If you have a high gain amp, it's pretty much going to sound close to another high gain amp if you use the same speakers. There ARE exceptions to that, but the speaker is the MAIN component of sound, and is the biggest influence on the sound you get!

      Glad more people are catching on about G12M Greenbacks for metal. They are NOT just for classic/hard rock like so many people seem to think. For me they have the perfect balance of upfront and balanced mids, with minimal high end sizzle like you find in most V30's, and still with respectable low end. Perfect for modern metal tones.

    • @amirtak9886
      @amirtak9886 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @maynardburger yeah I used to think v30s were the best speaker ever made until I heard some of the older and newer G12M speakers on TH-cam and I like how much tighter and focused they sound compared to the vintage 30. My favorite G12M type speaker is the Eminence Private Jack 8ohm. It's 50w and it sounds so perfectly balanced and nails the G12M character. Also Celestion is recently making the G12M speakers in the UK now.

    If you stop to think about it, every one of us is hearing each of these speakers differently. So it's not only that each speaker is different, but we all hear things differently due to various factors. Just think about the different types/degrees of hearing damage that we probably each suffer from, to one degree or another. After over three decades of industrial work and a lifetime of loud music, I know I have hearing damage. Different frequencies have become attenuated.
    It's mind-blowing and one of the main reasons that we each prefer different tones.

    I produce/engineer/mix/master full time at my recording studio.
    People will come in with $2500 heads and $500 cabinets complaining about their tone.
    I plug them into any of my better cabinets (selected, of course, to compliment the head and the tone they're going for) and it sounds 1000 times better. Instantly. Now, pick the right speaker in the right cab to go along with the right character coming out of the amp head and you've gone from "this is shit" to "oh shit this rips."
    The thing that tends to bum them out, though, is when I pull out my Egnator Rebel 20 - a head a got for $150 used - and put it through the right cab (it loves my Mesa 2x12 from 2001) and it sounds better than their Revv (for example) through the cab they walked in with. That head's awesome and it's my secret "vocal mids" amp that always sounds cool. I think it's a painful lesson a lot of us guitar folk learn: amps are cool, fun to experiment with, and have a definite hand in shaping the character of the tone but cabs are where 90% of the tone is designed and defined.
    Amps are the fresh lookin' shoes while cabinets are the shirt, pants, hat, haircut, and body shape of the person wearing the shoes.

    The G12H30 was my definitely my personal favorite. Smooth highs, powerful mids. Since this amp is already has a somewhat scooped tone it's pretty logical that a very mid-forward speaker plays well with it, and that somewhat mid-scooped speakers doesn't (like the T75). However, the G12C Greenback (should be mid-forward) didn't sound very good IMO, while the K100 (usually a bit scooped) did, so that logic might not work after all 😅

    Great video. I'd have to choose the Eminence C90, the Veteran 30, H75 or one of the Greenback loaded Marshalls. The rest had some sort of weird resonant overtone/hollowness/brittle buzzy thing going on. I wonder if differences in power handling played a role in this? What was the master on your amp? Thanks for the hard work. Moving those cabs around is no joke.

Also, I liked the 8 Ohm speakers more frequently than the 16 Ohm ones, especially with the V30's, but they were in different cabs, so IDK how much of that was the speaker and how much was the cab, and then you throw in QC tolerances as a giant question mark...

    I should have kicked you my old pimped out Fender 4x12 to test drive. Old G12H-100s on the bottom and vintage uk built Classic Lead 80's up top. It took me a few speaker swaps and experimenting, but that combo is by far my favorite mix of Celestions.

    I liked the 16ohm V30, redback, Veteran, both creambacks. G12H30 has nice EQ but also a sort of fuzzy decay that I wish wasn’t there.

    Wished there was a beloved orange v30 cab in the mix but incredible job with this shootout. Alot of those sounded so cool. I'm most interested in those DV-77's

    im probably biased because i own them but i loved that Veteran 30 sound the best, the non mesa 8ohm v30 was pretty close though. i could see the k 100 mixing well with either of those.

    The Celestion G12C/12C25 or whatever they threw in the Marshall JVM cabs are the most slept on speaker of the last 50yrs (followed by Celetion 65 watts whether 80's or reissue... but not the mushy creambacks... and then say the Eminence Swamp Things that took like ten years to catch on even modestly).
    They have the greenback thing with more V30 style compression in the lows that changes the tone a good way very complimentary the 5150 type voicings out there where the consensus is blackbacks and v30s.

    Really hard to do this and get truthful results because when you change cabs or just speakers the mic moves. Even just the first 2 cabs you can see the mic isn’t in the same spot. God bless you for putting in the effort.

    • @belligerentamateur
      @belligerentamateur  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is not a scientific speaker comparison by any means, and I didn't claim it was. It was more to demonstrate how the amp sounds through different stock cabinet configurations in case you were thinking of buying the amp but didn't know how it would sound through your cab) chances are you have one of these cabs as they're all very common other that the Vader and wgs cabs. Btw, the mic may not have been in the same position on the speaker relative to the camera, but it was definitely in the same position on the speaker, which is what matters.

    Maybe surprisingly, I think the speakers that the sound the best on their own are the ones derived from vintage Celestions. All the rest sounded good or would sound great paired with a different speaker.
    Although, aside from all that, I think the redback was my favorite as a standalone overall.

    This video should help show the point the Gleen has trying to make all along!!! That changing your speakers will make a difference in your tone/sound...
    Now to narrow down the choices to the couple I liked best......and it was mainly the one with speakers in it!!😂😂
    I liked the Omega the most so far.
    Ill have to watch a few more times to determine the rest.

    Speaker, cab (and mic too) would have to be my favourite in tone-making. Amps boosts pickups are fun too, but the insane variance you can get with IR's is unbeatable. Can't have a good mix with a bad IR.

    great comparison 👍all time m25 greenback fan here. İt is great in marshall cabs but fantastic in an Engl cab. İ swaped all v30s to m25s in my 2x12 and 4x12 engls..
    eminence legend 1218 is also a hidden gem i think. İt is great alone and in combination with tonker.

    The Redback was my favorite of the bunch, and I was also surprised by how much I liked the DV-77, Creamback 65 and the second Greenback speaker. And after hearing the EV12L, I can’t figure out why old school Boogie guys hype it up so much, it sounded really bad to me

    Hey dude. I tend to have this content on in the background a lot of the time or while I'm in the car for instance. It would be super sweet if you could verbally announce the speaker, amp / whatever in videos like these as well as on screen titles. I'm sure a lot of people are in similar situations.

    The very first Randall can and the 2 KSR cabs the creamback and redback, then the marshall g12/m25 green back, mesa black shadow were the standouts for me. I realize this is poorly worded on my part. I was literally just adding to the list as I listened.
