Hey Tom. I'm not really a metal guy but thought you did a great job comparing these speakers! The sound levels were right on and the way you organized everything was clear and concise. I just ordered a British Vintage for my Marshall. Great video.
@@philfort7886 yes! It’s smoother and not as poky so it will fill out lows and cleans but it’s mids are not as present. The v30 will still sound more forward in the mix
Surprisingly I love the BV30H the most. Sound bigger overall on the chugga rhythms, and clearer on the leads. Even more surprising is I bought/ still own 4 of them 16 years ago. Time to find a quad box and play some metal.
I just bought BV30 60 12" 8ohm. Put in my 600 series Bedrock combo. Sounds very good! Tried an Eminence wizard and that was too clean and bright. Was a celestion G12 30 watt small magnet Rola speaker in when I got the amp. I tried to find at local music stores an celestion G12H 30. But was 16 ohm. I'm very happy this MOJO speaker. It's warm and smooth sustain reacts well to amps tone controls. Highly recommend
i think i like the BV-30H the best. What a great video. Thank you so much for doing this because i was on the fence with some buy thought i liked to BV-30H and now i know for sure!!
Greyhound no. 1, BV30H for a V30 alternative, BV30V sounded great but maybe not for Metal though... FWIW. Never loved the Vintage 30, but I' not a Metal guy either.
Glad I found your channel, I build and sell cabinets and I’m always playing with different speaker combos, but I generally mix a V30 and a Creamback H (since they have similar Db sensitivity and power handling) and I love the blend of those two, and the greyhound is the next speaker I’m really looking at to get that perfect blend. I sell my customers unloaded cabinets so speaker choice is always a fun topic for us! I like the demo/comparison, and the greyhound had that pleasing top end roll off that I look for with enough chunk and body down low, and High-Gain is of course my favorite application.
Great job on this video. Sound quality/video quality is great. The type of riffing, using chugs and strums in a predictable pattern, really helped me to really hear the differences. I have to say I think I liked the BV-30H best. Very open and clear, letting the amp come through.
Both Bv30V and Greyhound sound like a perfect match to mix with a Vintage 30, Greyhound would be my choice for Low Tuning 7-8 strings metal and BV30V for more mid focused heavy metal or leads, thanks for this video, I’m looking for a Mojotone speaker for High Gain tones to use in conjunction with a G12H
It has mid range like V30 and upper mids like the Mesa Black Shadow Custom 90. Due to that reason it cuts through the mix even better than the Vintage 30.
First thanks for taking time to document this - Honestly I prefer mids so V30 for the win- the others sounded small , thin, fizzy by comparison- Maybe mojotone Anthem might be more up my alley - but its really preference- l prefer mid marshall sound like UFO over scooped .
Hi Tom, I watched your video from a bit back with the WGS Green Beret/ET65 mix and really liked how that sounded. I also like the way the Greyhound speaker sounds in this video. I'm swapping speakers in a 412 and thinking to go with either of those options. Could you give your insight on how the Green Beret/ET65 mix compares to the Greyhound when listening in person an which you like better?
I just bought a BV30H. Im gonna put it in my StageRight 2x12 thats loaded with 2 Celestion Vintage 30.. I cant remember why i went with the BV30H as apposed to the BV30V. In your mix the H sounds a little brighter, which i like. So im glad i picked it. My ear is not the best. Thanks for the mix, so we can hear the differences!!
this is a lot to ask and I know but could you please upload this to soundcloud or somewhere where there isn't as much audio compression? They sound excellent but I feel that TH-cam takes away from the quality of the audio. Amazing job!
Tom, great riff for hearing the qualities of each.. the Greyhoud was clear and articulate and well rounded overall.. quite a surprise.. i did not prefer the V30 or the BV30V.. i loved the BV30H.. and i was surprised how they all sound mix vs ISO.. good comparison.. i know one of my favs in Wolf Hoffman uses H30 exclusively as he mainly Chugs and plays Sus4 chords and I see why.. i do think the greyhound and BV30H would be killer together..awesome
The Greyhound and the BV30V sounded great. The BV30H was a little too harsh on both the low end and especially the high end; sounded like it had a lot of breakup coming from the speaker itself in those frequencies, though oddly the midrange remained clear. Might work well for a blend with either a Vintage 30 or a Greenback, maybe something like Mojotone's own Watchtower speakers. Also would probably work great for edge of breakup tones, and leads.
This is great! I'm looking for options for my Egnater Armageddon (great amp btw and I think its a bit darker sounding like your Archon) and Heritage 2x12. I have a Celestion G12T-75 and an Eminence Legend v12. The latter is very balanced and tight in the lows, but the G12T-75 I'm not liking a lot with my amp. I think this amp works best with Vintage 30-type speakers. Out of these I liked the Greyhound and BV 30V the most. Would you think either of those would be a good pair with either the Eminence Legend v12 or the G12-75T? What do you think about other options like the Warehouse Veteran 30 or Eminence Governor? Thanks!
I like the Greyhound the best here, though they all sound pretty good. I like the true v30 the least in this example. Lacking the fullness of the others. Awesome demo!
I have all of those speakers in various cabs. My fave is the BV30H using a Mahaffay HiLo watt Plexi. Sounds like the perfect mix of V30 and Greenback. In your demo I thought the BV 30V sounded dead nuts Celestion V30. In my own experience I thought the Greyhound got flabby with a lot of overdrive.
Thanks for this! It's very relevant for me... use the MT15 for a lot of my tones, very similar voicing to the Archon, and my favorite cab with it is a PRS SE 2x12, from the original run of "SE" branded amps. The speakers in it have a unique top end grind that I haven't been able to find in any other speaker, but I think the Greyhound might just do it. Just ordered one, should be good!
I'm a huge fan of Mojotone now that i got the BV30 60w. It's such an amazing speaker, with great articulation and clarity. Better than most speakers out there for sure.
Hey man, great video. 👍 Which one sounded most like the V30 in your opinion? I wanna load a 4x12 cab I have but prefer to get V30 clones to save some money. 😄 To my ear, the BV 30H sounds the closest.
Hey i have a few questions: 1. Is the vintage 30 a Chinese, UK, Marshall, or Mesa Boogie made? Is it 8 or 16ohm? 2. Is the greyhound 8 or 16 ohm? 3. Was it used in a 2x12 or 4x12 cab? Which model specifically? Btw nice playing.
V30 is a new Chinese made one that came with the cab. Cab came from mojotone with a V30 and a mojo BV30-H. All speakers are 8ohms but the cabinet is wired to 16ohms. All the speakers in this video came from mojotone directly so they have only been used in this twin canyon 2x12!
I have never been a Vintage 30 fan. The BV30H is better than the V-30 (but not as good as my 1969 G12-30Hs). I'd have to say, the Greyhound is the winner here for me.
@@TomMcCormickGuitar I just discovered these speakers and this video today. Great to hear those have stayed in your cab as I was leaning towards a combination of them. Any insight on how they sound together? Or any clips?
That demo song is amazing, I'd love to hear the full version. As for the speaker, they all sound incredible but that Bv 30h is really special.
All those speakers sound great but what I really like is that riff. Sick!! This definitely makes me want a mojotone speaker or two.
For sure, I keep coming back for the riff!!
I got my Mojotone BV-30H today. This is freakin' awesome speaker IMO.

The Greyhound is great but I prefer the BV30H for the mix
The greyhound is super underrated I don’t know why it doesn’t get more love. The cleans are soooo good too! I have one blended with a V30!

Very impressed with the Greyhound, great balance of frequencies, I'd call it "mix-ready".
my thoughts exactly. It sounds very cleaned up and usable. No unwanted junk schhhhhhhhhh sounds
The BV30H sounds so good in that mix. Now I'm eyeing some new MojoTone speakers.

Love the Greyhound. Got 2 in a twin canyon and Tone is so woody. Very old American sound and aggressive bite of British tonality
which one do you prefer high gain speed metal tone
BV30V was my favorite for this mix but the Greyhound was great too

Isolated - the Greyhound, in a mix - the BV30V.
Which mojotone would you recommend for mixing with Vintage V30??
