The funny part is that even if Dell bumps the price by USD100-150, it will still be a better option compared to Intel (performance-wise). I wonder why they didn't do much effort into the design. Does intel sabotage AMD through brands?
For this price they should be able to make it all metal and have high speed USB. It seems like they had junior project engineer work on it, he then poorly managed the system design and they quickly ran out of BOM budget and ended up having to make a lot of sacrifices to reach the target price. Glitches with power management is typical AMD thing on laptops, they always struggle with drivers.
Max supported memory is 64GB for the all AMD model. The Intel model Max support is 32GB. There are many reports of people who have the all AMD version of this laptop upgraded to 64 GB. Check Reddit if you don't believe me.
I hope you guys have the Ryzen version of the Omen 15 on your review list, it has an Nvidia GPU but it's a much better example of a Ryzen equipped laptop at this price point. It doesn't look like it's from 2014 and it isn't a furnace.

pointless, HP is putting a low quality screen in the omen 15 for sale in india. and there's also just a couple of configurations for sale. it's up on flipkart you can find it when you include out of stock/restocking soon products in search. I was using it for about 15 min and the top side of the keyboard just below the screen is really hot. It feels like I have been using it for a an hour of gaming. And just to think, I was only surfing in the Microsoft edge. But fortunately, I came prepared with this. So I'm updating all drivers in windows update and also Dell Update App and also with dell support assist application.
Looking at the cooling performance of this notebook as well as the cooling hardware. I was hoping the last test is to re-paste the thermal compound with kyronaut and see if it's due to poor out of factory thermal paste... But... You didn't. That's a little disappointing
Nope you're wrong. I know someone who's repasted this same laptop and gets very good thermals. The latest bios very much inproves thermal performance aswell. I have the laptop and can confirm.
I get the feeling a product design engineer had stuff in his inbox like 'it still feels too good, can you make it a bit creakier? use cheaper plastic, make it really glossy and pick up oily sheen and scratches like butter?' so as not to compete with their other lines
Hi Dustin, Can you please tell me what your experience so far with this laptop after 7 months? I am more worried about the Temp and I am thinking to get one so please enlighten me
disliked. You can't be so overly critical with a laptop for making cuts in build quality for the sake of price. You expect too much out of this price range and your review quality is poor as a result. You focus too much on thermals and things that are trivial for a laptop designed for affordable gaming in mind. This is a gaming laptop and you skimped on the gaming performance benchmarks for individual games which are more important for what this laptop is made for. Also you're in Canada so you should know that the price for the A15 is obnoxious. You get results for the F15 instead its so scarce. So you should not recommend that laptop against this one. Please do better next time I'm surprised you don't have more dislikes on this video.
The day that the build quality for AMD laptops stop being rubbish, will be a good day for the industry. Almost every single one that I see always has negative feedback on the design and/or colour choice.
normaly i dont like videos except if they are outstanding to some sort, from a small youtuber or if they do something really convinient. the timeline on this video is really good and i hope more youtuber do that
I just bought one. Honestly, I would have paid $100 more for better build quality. But the 6 GB video card is so important for DaVinci Resolve. I only got it for the performance and the bright, (somewhat) color-accurate display. I was interested in the MSI Creator M15, but it was using Intel only. AMD would have been a great fit for a device like that. I really like the SD card slot for my photo and video needs.
AMD must tie up with 2-3 OEM who really care about customer and should involved in there manufacturing, Aesthetics so that end customer get all the benefits
Bought this and returned the next day. Super loud at load in WOW at med and ultra settings. I had an issue with running in windowed mode. It would leave rainbow pixels after opening another window. I was not happy with this at all!
Beware the hinge! I have a G3 bought in December. The hinge failed (three screws to the lid stripped out) under normal usage (no drops). Dell Support said the damage was out of scope of the warranty. I bought a new lid from China to replace but am worried that this one won't last any longer (6 months) than the last. Might try and do something to reinforce the screws (sugru?)
i have a g15 SE and there is no creaking or squeaking from the screen hinge or bottom panel at all. i think he just had really bad luck with the one he got.
A cheap aluminum enclosure would barely cost more than a plastic one. Make an awesome notebook that everyone with a budget would be interested in, and they end up making it look like a budget notebook. Someone buying a budget notebook doesn’t want it to look like a budget notebook.
This laptop is overpriced for the specs, it needs atleast 16GB DDR4 RAM and 1 TB nvme ssd for $999. In order to save costs dell should instead reduce their 1st party bloatware on the laptop.
I can't believe that Dell is still sticking to that hinge design for their Gs. There is a notorious design flaw with the G3s (like the 3590) with breaking hinges due to how flimsy they are. The plain G5 also has excessive wobbling and creaking. Not helped by the cheap plastic. Designwise, how did this get through stress testing? Disappointed that these are quality components wrapped with the cheapest of laptop carcasses.
Bought a Asus tuf fx505du 2019 edition with ryzen 7, gtx 1660 ti , 8gb ram, 512 ssd and a 120 hz panel for 870 dollars this Dell G5 seems nice but you can get much better deals if you dig around long enough.
I just completed my triple booting Dell G5 5590 (Intel i7/RTX 2060) laptop project. So, I shrunk the Windows 10 it came with , added Ubuntu on the internal M.2 SSD and replaced the SATA HD with a SSD for the OpenCore Hackintosh (Catalina 10.15.6). I can't use the RTX 2060 graphics on MacOS since it can't be used but this G5 15 SE is a good candidate to hackintosh because of the AMD mobile graphics. I don't think OpenCore supports Ryzen laptops yet though. I"ll wait till AMD has Thunderbolt 4 capability on a laptop, till I try it.
Dell’s been using those power supplies for years. Also, you think their 240W is big, then your eyes would open wide at their 330W power bricks. Thing’s heavy as hell too for a laptop power supply.
Smart Shift Reminds me of what HP did for their Laptop(DV6-6C50CA) i5-2450m with AMD discrete GPU HD 7690m XT switchable graphics, they did a custom software which conflicts when you update your drivers... after a year or so HP abandoned it... had too many issues with the software not switching to discrete, workaround fix for it was to go to Bios and change the Switchable graphics from Dynamic to Fixed it worked for it's time while using Windows 7... this laptop is still with me working, even upgraded it to an SSD, free update to windows 10, replaced thermals paste just a month or so ago... it gets a little hot haven't replaced the fan yet guessing it has worn out... also once upgraded to Windows 10 had to switch back Bios from Fixed to Dynamic windows 10 doesn't like the fixed option and lags when shutting down...
go for a zephyrus g14-15 for great everything but NO camera and you have to open the 2 blocked vents on the AMD model. idk why they did this, probably mischief from intel. go for HP omen 15 if you need everything great (it has like, no negatives at all). the end. all other laptops have SOME kind of deal breaker issue. EXCEPT THAT HP india has replaced the amazing screens in the omen with crappy screens like the tufbook...
Grabbed this open box at Best Buy for under $600 for my son. We needed a computer as our MacBook of ten years video card crapped out. More than happy with it for what we paid. Going to give it the full run for its money to make sure there are no issues under the return period and then he plans to sticker the heck out of it and really make it his. Maybe I'm old but this thing doesn't look that bad to me lol. I'd rather pay for specs on the inside then making the thing look flashy on the outside. That's how I am with my builds too though. The RGB craze could die tomorrow and I wouldn't lose a wink.
Watch out for crashes. If it starts crashing I would suggest returning it asap. Had to return a brand new one, as nothing would fix the crashes. Dell did a bad job on the build for this laptop, both in materials and software.
The fact that you were playing on the charger no problem hurts me. Because I just bought this and the throttling when I'm on the charger is insane it crashes my PC entirely.
I find the test is kinda skewed because there’s a lot to be said about what’s not in there. Comparing a sub $900 laptop with an RTX2060/70/80 and a RX5500M is only telling half the story if you don’t include at least a 1660ti laptop which is priced about the same as this laptop, you could even include a GTX1650 to make it stand out, because a lot of laptops are still to this day coming with this chip and priced around the same as the G5 SE. Then, about USB ports I wonder what kind of peripheral you would need that use the faster protocol, most of the time you would probably add a mouse or a headset, do you really need a USB3 port for these ? I don’t think so, so a single USB3 might make more sense and then you might use the type C port for some docking station which will add all the ports you’d need when you’re not on the go. As far as overheating goes I’m waiting for mine to see what could be done, but this is my biggest concern about this laptop, I wonder how much lifespan there’s in it if it’s constantly reaching high temperatures, but this is true for a lot of laptops, the A15 exhibit the same issue with poorly designed vents for instance. Anyway, in terms of bang for the buck it’s hard to find better than this laptop in this price range IMO, every brand is cutting corners here or there. So either you recommend a ROG Zephyrus 14 or you accept the compromise being made.
I highly suggest to look at the cooling solutions and coverage. Asus tuf 15 is cheap but the vrms are not cooled with a heatsink. It needed to make intake vents smaller to let air channel through the exposed vrms
Can you please request a engineering sample of the eluktronics rp-15, it's one of the top choices for amd 4k series since it doesn't skimp out on too much for its price point
@@TofaelTohin yeah but the little lip between the keyboard and screen really bugs me because if you grab the laptop there the screen flexs in. The cost to performance is slightly higher as well.
This thing was sanctioned by the bean counters trying to mitigate the yearly loses from the pandemic.
This laptop and the msi bravo are perfect examples of manufacturers not giving a crap about build quality. Nice in theory but horrible execution
Which laptop has best built quality?
Max supported memory is 64GB for the all AMD model. The Intel model Max support is 32GB. There are many reports of people who have the all AMD version of this laptop upgraded to 64 GB. Check Reddit if you don't believe me.
I hope you guys have the Ryzen version of the Omen 15 on your review list, it has an Nvidia GPU but it's a much better example of a Ryzen equipped laptop at this price point. It doesn't look like it's from 2014 and it isn't a furnace.
omen 15 and lenovo legion are the best amd laptops for the price. Then comes asus g14 at 1400$ and 2000$+ laptops are not worth it these days
@@gzarari Funny how everyone keeps saying this about the Legion notebook. The highest end GPU they're offering in most regions is the GTX 1650 Ti for ~$1100 USD and that's a terrible value.
@@HardwareCanucks if you ever feel angry about prices just loop up the Indian prices of products. Xps 13 starts at 1900 usd in india

Dell lets us down again. That I/O is outrageous, the webcam should be better. I don't care about sound from built-in laptop speakers, use external speakers!
I mean its a gaming laptop which it excels at.
my beef with these laptop makers is they make a capable gaming laptop that is great for photo and video dabbling, but its comes with high refresh rate screens at 1080p. not useful for the photo/video crowd. as soon as something gets labeled for "creators" the price goes up quickly, there's never a middle ground device.
Segmentation is a mental illness of corporate bean counters and marketers.
You seem to have lost weight, I hope you are doing well healthwise brother, great video 👍
The Intel model with RTX 2060 comes with all 3 USB 3 ports. I'm testing them right now with external hard drives and I can get 100MB/s sequential reads/writes on Crystal DiskMark on the rear one and on the side ones as well.

pointless, HP is putting a low quality screen in the omen 15 for sale in india. and there's also just a couple of configurations for sale. it's up on flipkart you can find it when you include out of stock/restocking soon products in search. The pricing is ok tho. looks like HP has lowered the base price of the devices to adjust for the taxes.
if they put the same screens as on the US versions and more configurations for sale, it would've been the perfect high-midrange gaming laptop in india. @80-100K rupees.
the zephyrus g14 and 15 both are THE best laptops on the market right now, except that they omit the webcam and run hot(not by design but due to a last minute decision by asus to block two of the three air intake vents using a plastic sheet just for the AMD versions; i believe that it was intel's doing so that their nuclear reactors look competitive with AMD versions); the HP omen has all the positives of zephyrus, has a great chassi, has a camera and runs cool. PERFECT. now if only i had a relative in US so i could get the best config for less :(

I just bought my Dell G5 Se with R7 4800h. I would say, the design is actually not bad. It looks nice but not really great. And yeah, the thermal issue are seriously real.

Never thought I would heard Dell XPS L502X again. That laptop with its failing GPU is why I have trust issues with Dell.
Looking at the cooling performance of this notebook as well as the cooling hardware. I was hoping the last test is to re-paste the thermal compound with kyronaut and see if it's due to poor out of factory thermal paste... But... You didn't. That's a little disappointing
It's sad that we have to include this now.
Nope you're wrong. I know someone who's repasted this same laptop and gets very good thermals. The latest bios very much inproves thermal performance aswell. I have the laptop and can confirm.
@@RaiPalk78 sry who is wrong on what?
I get the feeling a product design engineer had stuff in his inbox like 'it still feels too good, can you make it a bit creakier? use cheaper plastic, make it really glossy and pick up oily sheen and scratches like butter?' so as not to compete with their other lines
I own this one and have no problems, except it can get a bit toasty. but I keep it in front of my fan and i keep temps around 70- 77c while gaming.
Hi Dustin, Can you please tell me what your experience so far with this laptop after 7 months? I am more worried about the Temp and I am thinking to get one so please enlighten me
10% slower than rtx 2060 yet 30% cheaper. Super dispaointing result. Wtf is this muppet talking about?
Just bought this laptop and it’s very nice!! Only MAJOR ISSUE I have is my mouse isn’t workin!! I tested two new mouses
The squeaky noise is because the heat sink is not put together properly. I replaced the heat sink and now the noise is gone.
It cost +$700 for that same gpu on a MacBook Pro now that says a lot
3:20 Dell has the same problem on the XPS 13 .
I guess it's a trade-off for lowering prices.

The day that the build quality for AMD laptops stop being rubbish, will be a good day for the industry. Almost every single one that I see always has negative feedback on the design and/or colour choice.
normaly i dont like videos except if they are outstanding to some sort, from a small youtuber or if they do something really convinient. the timeline on this video is really good and i hope more youtuber do that
Looks like it's been built with the leftover materials from laptops several generations ago. What a real shame
I just really hate that middle hinge design. Looks like a 40 inch tv from 2009
I just bought one.
Was able to get a refurbished version of this laptop for $580. Got it from Dell Outlet.
AMD must tie up with 2-3 OEM who really care about customer and should involved in there manufacturing, Aesthetics so that end customer get all the benefits
They already are.... they are called the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
That's SUPER bad and even worse customer service. :(
i have a g15 SE and there is no creaking or squeaking from the screen hinge or bottom panel at all. i think he just had really bad luck with the one he got.
A cheap aluminum enclosure would barely cost more than a plastic one. Make an awesome notebook that everyone with a budget would be interested in, and they end up making it look like a budget notebook. Someone buying a budget notebook doesn’t want it to look like a budget notebook.
They're mental slaves to segmentation. They're so afraid of competing against themselves that they end up self-sabotaging. Intel does this a lot too.
Which laptop is better in 2021 for gaming
Dell G5 se with ryzen 5 4600H,AMD Radeon Rx 5500m
Or
MSI GF65 with Intel i5 10500, GTX 1660ti
The question is, do you want to spend hundreds of dollars on a laptop shell that doesn't creak?
Cause i dont.

I just completed my triple booting Dell G5 5590 (Intel i7/RTX 2060) laptop project. So, I shrunk the Windows 10 it came with , added
Ubuntu on the internal M.2 SSD and replaced the SATA HD with a SSD for the OpenCore Hackintosh (Catalina 10.15.6). I can't use the RTX 2060 graphics on MacOS since it can't be used but this G5 15 SE is a good candidate to hackintosh because of the AMD mobile graphics. I don't think OpenCore supports Ryzen laptops yet though. I"ll wait till AMD has Thunderbolt 4 capability on a laptop, till I try it.
when should we expect to see Ryzen in the XPS 15" and 17"?
I'm surprised this comes with a Kensington locking port since Dell has moved to a Noble lock design in all other models for years now.
At this point, I don't care about the quality. I just want GPU power.
There are 1650 laptops with great quality but lmao, it's the 1650.
Dell’s been using those power supplies for years. Also, you think their 240W is big, then your eyes would open wide at their 330W power bricks. Thing’s heavy as hell too for a laptop power supply.
Dell is not doing the Ryzen 4800h justice. Absolute crime.

If oems still dont make more amd laptops next year, intel’s been bribing them.
They took top hardware and made it look terrible. It's like giving your kid expensive oil paints for finger painting.
If they don't respond to obvious customer choice, then something is really amiss....
Asus ROG strix scar 3 2020 version .is it worth to wait and buy it . can u plz make videos on ROG lappy apart from the zepyhrus model of asus ...
