  • This short video shows the entire process of making a relief engraving on a block of Resingrave, from initial sketch to actual engraving to printing the final edition. A Resingrave block is a synthetic material that is a great substitute for end-grain boxwood (traditionally used for wood engraving but very expensive). I buy my blocks and tools from McClains Printmaking Supply: www.imcclains.com/catalog/bloc...
Other supplies I am using are a Conrad E-15 Etching Press, Black oil-based relief ink from Graphic Chemical, and Zerkall Book Weight Paper.
The registration tabs I use are called Ternes-Burton Pins and Strips, which can be found HERE: www.dickblick.com/brands/tern...
The wooden jig that holds the blocks and paper on the pressbed is something a friend of mine made to custom fit my press. It is basically a simple frame with a cross piece attached to a thinner plywood. I hope to make a future video on how to make one.
“TORTOISE!” was printed in a limited edition of 75 S&N prints. They are available in our Etsy shop HERE: www.etsy.com/listing/59929666...

Lovely piece of engraving. I was wondering why you cut your final prints to size when you have a registration system in place. I would have thought the registration system would have done the job for you if you had all your printing paper the same size??

Hello, could you tell us where you get the tools you’re using? Thank you, Henri.

kosuru keerthi hi! These tools only work on Resingrave blocks or on blocks of end-grain wood, like boxwood. That’s how traditional wood engravings are made. Regular wood or linoleum is too soft for these tools.
