    that extended gas hose is a great idea like the way you set that up you are prepared for any power outage in your future and know what you can and can't run smart planning steve

      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope it inspires others to think of a way to be prepared and most will never need a genset. I think the extended run time with the gas hose is ideal for the honda. If i could do it all over again i would have bought the one with a natural gas hookup.

    Now seriously, when I watched Part 1, I wasn't thinking that this applies to me as our electrical (hydro in your case) sources are different. Watching this and thinking back through it. The solutions that you define in this series is very applicable. Our electricity is delivered above ground and often goes out during ice storms. Thank you!

      Lee that's the way to go for sure and I can go 2 weeks easy on 10 gallons with the honda. My buddy with a 7000 watt honda uses 5 gallons a day. This vid shows you don't need a huge genset to power up the essentials .

    • @LeeRalph100
      @LeeRalph100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, we have only had to use mine a couple times, but that is all we hooked up was the essentials. Luckily we had a wood burner at the times during the one winter that we were with out heat for a couple days. I really need to get a better setup for running the furnace for extended periods

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't go wrong with the 2000 watt honda . I could buy a cheaper one but I need my furnace to run so cost wasn't an option. They have a kit for the hondas to run on nat gas if you have it. That's the way to go and never run out of fuel - stale fuel or the need to store fuel.

    i got a generator on sale at ctc that uses gas or propane. i can't pull the cord so i got the one that has electric battery start button. now i wonder if i can hook up the natural gas of my house to it. my generator is in the garage that i could put it outside. i have a 14 gauge cord to go into the house. this way i could run cords to that outlet in my radio shack. now just curious what is the difference of ng to propane. good show steve.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi George, i did ask my friend that installed my gas furnace and he put a gas outlet for my nat. gas BBQ. That's the same connection i could use for the genset if i converted it over. The propane comes out of the bottle at a high pressure compared to natural gas so the pressure regulators might be set up different and you wouldn't have a quick connector like a nat. bas bbq. I would look and see if the regulators are the same parts number and all that's needed is an adjustment and maybe a jet change. I would go with the nat gas for sure. Propane doesn't like to flow in cold weather and nat gas is real cheap to operate..

    Steve, this vid. has kindled all kinds of memories. Do you remember "The Great Ice Storm of "98 ) that crushed Eastern Ont. and parts of Quebec. Customers where without power for 3 days to 3 months, a lot in the 6 week range. Huge steel transmission towers came crashing down and the flash could be seen 150 miles away. It was mostly rural and small town. I know a farmer that lived it, wasn't a genset to be had in Ontario. Largest deployment of Canadian Armed Forces since the Korean War. Could you imagine. Wow. I have family in Canada so I'm used to it.. obviously there are other sources of electricity than just hydro so it's funny that that word is used. But then again I've heard Canadians call macaroni and cheese "Kraft dinner". Even though there are many companies that make that product! Just some of those things in life that don't make any sense. Haha.

    You should do a vid on your fuel set up Steve.
    I have a bigger generator because i take it out and run heavy power tools and stuff on it. I have kept an eye out for a smaller Honda one because it would use less fuel to run my house.
    I keep 3 jerry cans and some plastic fuel cans. I rotate the fuel every 6 weeks through my car. I keep some smaller petrol cans for fuel for petrol power tools or if i have to take my generator somewhere. The jerry cans i find leak vapours while the plastic petrol cannisters don't. Plus i keep one for fuel thats gone rancid and run that through my lawn mower.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the summer i would open the window and pray for the power to go back on. LOL I know you have two big gensets and maybe Gator can show what he does when the power goes out in a vid. I would like an electrician to explain in a vid for those out there if it's possible to send power from their house down the line to a lineman even if they shut the main breaker off in their house. On the neutral side of the circuit when someone powers their house using a 240v welding outlet in their shop to power their house as many do. Is it possible , i'm not sure . I know most have no idea the safest way or the regulated way and then theirs my way. LOL

    • @gatorsworld
      @gatorsworld 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow,,,,now lets see here there is a way and the Gator way but i`m not about to show this on the internet cuzz people just take it and do all sort a thing and then I encouraged this and I want no part a that.....The best way is hire a licensed electrical outfit and they do it the legal way.....My take cuzz there is lots a liability with hydro and your house insurance won't cover if you didle around ....STAY SAFE and hire a UNION CONTRACTOR....SALUTE

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i agree. I was just wondering for those that back feed into a 240v welding plug to power their house can it travel down the line on the neutral wire at the fuse panel even if you turn the main breaker off. I have heard that the neutral is not cut off at the main breaker , is that true ? I don't think your allowed to backfeed into a welding outlet to power your house but many do and yes your house insurance wouldn't be happy I guess. LOL

    • @gatorsworld
      @gatorsworld 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok but I warn people that read this to not attempt some`in of the sort....can be fatal for you or somebody else......Steve if your panel is well balanced as in two equal loads on both phases they cancel out and your neutral is just float`in but most of the time not the case and you rely on your ground and hydro neutral to bring the unbalance to ground but I seen some times especial in rock like around Sudbury it is very hard to get a good ground and this is where the problem starts or if in one of the hydro connections before the transformer ....I know the hydro guys have gloves but its out of respect for the people that know and out of safety for the people that don`t......If and I mean If something ever happen and you don`t plan these accidents forget your insurance there just looking for a way out.....you`d be shit out`ta luck gow`in down shits creak....keep using plug caps and extension cords or spend the bucks and get it done the UNION way.....not the joe blow with the running shoes way....CHEERS

    Steve, have you ever heard of a thing called a GenerLink. I am considering purchasing one. The GenerLink is a 5 inch device that fits behind your electric meter.Power company pulls your meter, stabs this link in and stabs the meter back on. At the bottom of the link there is an electrical quick coupler that you plug 1 heavy cord from your generator, comes with your purchase in optional lengths. When you plug into the link it automatically disconnects your house from the grid. You control the load by your breaker box, turn on the circuits you need whether furnace or A/C or what ever. I don't have a lot of space in my utility room. Obviously this is all outside. For me it would solve the hassle of extension cords, tranfer switches, sub panels and lack of room. The OEA stamps this product and the electricians I have spoken to say it saves a ton of labour to install a system and would be about the same cost as going with a transfer switch. Maybe a viewer can enlighten me on the negatives. Curious doug. Thanks

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doug i have seen the unit . Its a device that has to be installed my a lic. electrician and meant for mostly rural customers because of the location of the meter . It's over $500 last time i enquired . Great idea a safe way to hook up as well. I never asked if you needed a permit but i assume you would. Do you have a genset ready to go as well ? In a house the circuits are balanced and turning on one breaker powers different things so if you have a big genset ok but for me i have to target just a couple of loads.

      I have a Generac 8000 (TSC) thought it was American made like their commercials say but NO, Nono. Screwed again. With a little discretion I could power the house but use in the field too. I think I got 15 hours on it, waiting for the big one like we had back in the summer of (What year was that ) 3 days. KIT doug

    You can add a shut off valve between the tank line and the carb. I just used a small lawnmower gas shit off valve . While its running just shut off the valve and let it keep running till it stops . This will keep your carb from gumming up and you can keep the fuel in the tank . I always add a little stabilizer to the gas . You can go crazy and make holes in the plastic and put the valve on the outside but I just take the plate off , its only one screw and It fits perfectly inside .

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's good to put a shutoff valve in because you cant run it dry running. The honda shutoff cuts of the ignition not the fuel supply . Some prefer a shutoff fuel valve and some dont but it's good to know why . Cheers

    Electrical idiot here. We lost power multiple times last winter so we’re looking for a generator now. All we really want is something to power 2 Refridgerators, a few lamps, charge phones, coffee maker, a toaster oven, and if possible the tv and wifi. Would this unit handle that or should we look at the 3000? Thank you! Great video!

      Jeff this does it all for me but more is better . I also have a firman 3450 watt from lowes , I've made videos of it and it's awesome too , more fuel burn , heavier but at 1/3 the cost of honda it performs great too.

    • @TheMickeymental
      @TheMickeymental 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @jeffhallman676 It will handle it if you do not put every appliance on at the same time. I used one during a hurricane and it ran a window ac, vacuum cleaner, tv, two fans, a clothes washer, and a laptop You could go with a three thousand watt as long as it is an inverter generator. I will only buy Honda and have two eu2200i's. These units with proper maintenance are bullet proof.

    i wouldnt mind having one of these in the 3000 watt version

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 3000 watt electric start is the bomb. Much quieter but so much bugger and heavy to lug around. I was impressed that the 2000 watt did all i really needed. In louisiana you get wicked storms so you must have one. You could show in a vid how you hook yours up too.

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      my electric doesn't go out much if it does it's usually not over a few hrs so i don't have a good way to hook up a generator. I have a heat pump with electric heat strip so would need about a 15kw generator to run that so usually if i can get enough power to turn my computer on so i can play on youtube I'm good LOL maybe plug in a little electric heater and the fridge and a lamp.

    Did you have to ground it like you would a house?

      No I did not .

      @RBG-tr9ce If you are going through your breaker box you should use a ground neutral plug which is about ten dollars. The reason is that this Honda generator has a ground neutral plug.

    I let mine run out of fuel. That way it burns it out of the carb bowl. How to tell if a gen is a good gen plug a toaster into it.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep that will draw it down haha Yes at least try it out. If you don't drain the fuel it's never going to start again. LOL

    "SHOW MORE" Comment section: Light's go out Steve. Not light go out. Got to put that (S) in their Man. That sounds like a Chinese person talking. LOL
    That's a cool little trick man. Neat way to keep from refilling it a lot. Honda makes some of the best ones too. Quiet but that price.....whew BOY! Oh I see at 6:16 in the closing comment of the video you put the (s) in lights. LOL
    Great reminder Steve I had to poke at you. Have a Great week..

      If it's new or barely used it's worth about $700-900 . New is about $1500

    Can't leave anything outside over night in my part of the country... especially something that makes a bit of noise. It'll be gone quick once nightfall hits! So I'd have to build a cage for it first. =)

    You can't beat Honda...so what did I do? Buy a Yamaha. (ha ha) But it was a good deal that I couldn't pass up. I like the siphon idea.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honda and Yamaha are pretty equal and the caps for the siphon are the same I believe. On the Yamaha you can also turn the fuel off and let the engine run out of fuel, Honda can't. Up here their the same price and I believe same quality. The idea of hooking it up to an external tank works great.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know. The generator came with a used RV I purchased recently and it still had the original first tank of fuel in it. The guy barely used it. I may do a video on the RV but I don't want to seem like I'm showing off either.
