Cute as a Button Quail...

  • Hatching button quail eggs from Ebay can be difficult...but ever since we set foot on our homestead we have wanted button quail. They are tiny, cute, and the eggs are incredibly varied and beautiful. They were not among our first animals because we were not sure how practical it would be to begin our homesteading journey raising teeny tiny dinky little quail. But we have come to learn that buttons can fit in the tiny cracks of our homestead heart...much like ice cream after an all you can eat buffet...there is always a little room especially for these...the tiniest homestead creatures!

Those things are itty bitty. Overall I’d say that was a very successful hatch. The eggs look so cool, it’s like the Easter egger of the quail world.

This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about "raising quail in alabama" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive guide for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my partner got amazing success with it.

Why open the incubator during hatch? That kills the birds! Do not open until all birds are dry.

They're great fun to watch, now that they are fully grown try giving them sand and hard wood ash for dust bathing and live small crickets and mealworms they go crazy for them :)
We also made videos on quail hatching and raising maybe you can find some helpful info from our mini series th-cam.com/video/nJiVIxGv8dE/w-d-xo.html
P.S The eggs are nice pickled don't waste your time trying to make an omelette with them lol

I don't think these are Button-quail at all. These look like chicks of true Quail . These are two completely different groups of birds (in different orders). I think I can see a hind toe. Button-quails don't have a hind toe. That is the easiest way to tell them apart. I am not aware that any Button-quail have been bred into different colour morphs.

Button Quail have one of the broadest spectrum of color morphs. If you google "button quail color mutation" you will see quite a chart of different patterns and colorations.

Technically you're right and wrong. The species we call button quail here are not actually button quail but Chinese Painted Quail aka King Quail and they are true quails. The other bird called button quail are bigger than these guys and like you say are not true quail.
