    6:30 That locomotive features blended brakes. Using the automatic brake would normally be a standard air brake, but in this case it is programmed to also activate the dynamic brakes , because they are more effective than air brakes at medium- low speeds. The whole process is automatic. The "hold" position is used at lower speeds, what it does is it releases the Brake Pipe, and makes use of the EP brakes instead, which are just as powerful as the air brakes but can be released in increments instead of having all the brakes released at once. I think the EP brakes also work at higher speeds, but to my knowledge they only use them at lower speeds in real life in case of system failure (air brakes are fail-safe). This brake setup can also be seen on the alp-46 in NY-Trenton, good fun.

    Welcome to the bay area where I live. San Jose CA. It's really cool to see part of my city in a game simulator. And yes in real life the station does look exactly like you see it in the sim. Along with the scenery you see as you leave the station heading north.

    5:16 I'm from the bay, I hear a train horn in the distance about every 30 minutes to an hour😂. I hear it from the Amtrak line passing through Oakland. I'm sure its not much different on the Caltrain lines. I've also walked right over that last crossing into the San Francisco station, and have gotten spooked by the horn a few times.

      I'm in Oakland too! I've grown up with Amtrak and BART in the distance so it's weird when I travel to somewhere without horns

    I can't believe they made a sim for Caltrain lol. I was an engineer with Caltrain about 4 years ago. Blowing the horn is a federal rule, the only time we don't blow the horn is if the crossing is a quiet zone crossing. Other than that, when we go over a crossing we have to have the bell on and blow the horn in a certain sequence, long long short long. Your nose and ditch lights need to be on bright the whole time you are on the main line. You have to start the bell at the crossing X sign before you get to the crossing. If you are going 45mph and above, you need to sound the horn at the X sign, if you are slower that 45 its 15-20 seconds before the crossing. If we forget any of these rules and hit and kill someone, we could be brought up on manslaughter charges.

    Boston sprinter route will be amazing since we're seeing a redo of the f40ph-2c and I love the ctc-3 cab car. And I cannot forget amtrak. Thankfully it releases next week Thursday I'll buy that right when it comes out. Thanks you for making this video, I love playing peninsula corridor especially with the baby bullet!

    Crossing signs on this route are marked by an X. They’re somewhat of a distance from the actual crossing. Usually about 10-15 seconds out from the crossing. In terms of braking, you don’t need to brake super aggressively. I usually brake about 0.7-0.8 miles out from the station and set my brakes to about 20psi. I dont rely on the brake pipe however (the red needle) because of the train’s blended braking system. Basically what this means is the train uses a separate braking system to reduce stress on the train brakes. This means the brakes lose pressure as the dynamic brakes are doing most of the work. I rely on the brake cylinder (the white needle). I usually set it to 100 and that gives me about 20psi. I try to hit the platform at about 30-35mph and then put the brake cylinder below 100 to trigger the dynamic brakes. I then release the brakes if I am slowing down too quickly. The brakes on the F40 take a lot of practice to be able to use them properly.

    I can't speak for San Francisco, but there is a train track running right next to my apartment building with frequent crossings, and the trains are on the horn all the way through town! We only get a handful of trains a day though, even in the middle of the night.

    How do you turn on the cab lights for the F40 locomotive?

  • @LARailProductions
    @LARailProductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Long Long Short Long at every crossing, with the first blast beginning at the W/X sign and the last blast being held all the way through the crossing.

    How do you know the airplane was flying in the wrong direction?

    • @switchcade
      @switchcade ปีที่แล้ว

      The prevailing winds in the bay area are aligned with the bay, which would be parallel to the rail tracks here so the plane wouldn't intersect. Even if a plane was using the northeast-aligned runways, they take off towards the bay (away from the train station here) and climb from there.

    I like the look of the train and stations but the scenery is killing me. After san mateo theres big buildings where theres not. And 25th ave after Hayward park is not a crossing its a bridge. Hillsdale is in the middle not sides. Those details feel sloppy tbh
